I apologize in advance for the newbie questions.
I just got started with Tier 1 maps for the first time ever, so I'm now entering into Comprehension Mode after admittedly sperging through the Acts with my zombie powers.

So far I have just tried to keep a solid grasp of "Why am I using X gem?" and "How does X skill help me here?" kind of things. I'm pretty comfortable there. Also just learning the game for the first time, so... Jesus Christ lol this has been a lot (but a lot of fun.)

Still, a few things confuse me:

1. Why exactly do we use a Wand over any other 1H weapon? I keep passing on pretty interesting daggers, etc. and I'm not sure why I'm doing it.

2. On the same topic, when I am choosing Wands I have been looking for (aside from proper sockets, obviously) added Physical damage and Life if I can get it. Am I right that Spell damage and things like that are useless? The way I've grasped it so far, is that our minions do physical damage which is augmented (NOT converted, right?) as Elemental damage by our support gems like Elemental Army Support. So I look for Wands with added Elemental and/or Physical damage?

2a. Why do we avoid specifically added Lightning damage on weapons?

3. Entering mapping, I am at 77% Fire, Cold, and Lightning resists, but Chaos is -40% due to not having any rolled or available at the bench yet. Can I assume this will continue to balance out as I progress through mapping?

4. Flame Dash AND or versus Phase Run? I haven't been clear so far on our mobility skill, and I'm getting the sense that it's because I'm supposed to be using both - Dash to port around/beyond things, Phase to move faster in general and move through mobs in dense maps.

5. Based on all this, how's my gear so far? Again, I'm just barely scratching the surface of Tier 2 maps, so I'm just looking to confirm I'm on the right track with the understanding that I have a ways to go.

I'm trying to keep an eye out for those certain pieces of gear like a Bone Helmet for the +3 minion recipe, but it's been slim pickings so far and I definitely tunnel vision sometimes so I'm sure I've missed them. Trying to get better at that.

The next chance I get, I'm going to read up on quality to gems because I know that's a big thing I have neglected. Not to mention my poop flasks.

1 - convocation wand has best minion support things in the pool. I think you can only get like 70% dmg / 5% double damage on other 1h weapons.

2 - you are only looking for things with minions in name. Everything else does nothing. Exactly like the wand you have now... :-) We are avoiding light dmg because it will fuck up EE. When you check tooltip info about Armageddon Brand, you should only see fire damage here.

3 - chaos resist is not a big deal

4 - i use both, but its personal choice

5 - get rid of that wand ASAP, you can see in every equip post how wand should look like. And pretty much every piece of equip you have can be replaced with much better thing for just a few chaos.

1. Did I read correctly that you can only get that in maps listed here https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Convoking_Wand?

2. What's EE? The acronym doesn't match any of my current gems. And so physical or elemental damage does nothing? I just want minion things and life? And it would just boost my Skeletons since that's the suggested gem setup in wand, right?

5. As for my other gear, I only have collected 5 Chaos Orbs so far in my stash. Do I just need to start collecting unidentified sets of gear to vendor and get that going?

So, I respecced my Zombiemancer to this build (Zombies are too on-meta and the boss dps wasnt that great without a 40 ex weapon)

Its been doing well so far. But, my spectres die sometimes. Random metamorphs do it. Phoenix killed them all. And Hunter, Al Hezzmin kills some without fail.

I started convocating more often, then swapped Convocate to wand just so it would keep casting without having to press so many buttons. That did help, but they still die randomly at times.

I've dropped Gravepact and socketed a Fortress Covenant there to see if it helps, will check that out when i run more rippy maps.

So, any help in that area would be appreciated.

Any recommendations on upgrades?

Also, What would you guys recommend as far as Awakened Gems go?
I already have Minion Damage and Ele Focus. Is Spell Echo worth it? Curse on Hit? What would the Second curse be?(When I somehow get it to lvl 5 lol) Awakened Generosity?
What should the order of priority be?
I want to end league with as many woke gems as possible anyways, so I will be buying them one way or the other.

Any help is appreciated!

1 - yes, wand drop in these maps. Easiest way to craft it is with random bound fossil.

2 - EE stands for Elemental Equilibrium. That means you are hitting things with different element, that your spectres, to lower their resist. Physical does nothing unless its minion physical (and even then its just for zombies/skeletons, unless you play with some kind of physical spectre). Skeleton gem is in wand for no reason connected to any wand stat... :)

5 - well yes, unid chaos vendor recept is very easy way for a beginner to get a lot of cash fast, to buy thing you actually want

1. Ok and sorry if I missed this, but why exactly do we want wands? What does the wand do for us that sceptres or daggers don't?

2. ohhhhhhhh the passive tree thing. Ok thank you that makes sense, but why specifically lightning? Wouldn't any element's damage throw it off?

1. It can roll affixes sceptres and daggers cant.

2. Because lightning dmg will screw with your ability to roll the correct EE element for your slave drivers, which are lightning based.
Is there any different between act5 and delve slave driver?
