Scammers ruining free Lapidary Lens Giveaways. [Rant]

"
So just today I was able to get a T3 Gem Room, This came with of course the Lapidary Lens. I had announced in global that I was giving it away since I'm not interested on the double corruption gems anyway. I invited 2 people and both declined when they got into the room and then left leaving me with 2 less portals. At this point I had already left the Temple 2 times to empty up an inventory and had yet to finish the Omnitect Off and loot some offpath rooms. They both accused me of scamming. It took me about 5-10 minutes of channel surfing before somebody finally came and gave me a game they wanted double corrupted. He got a Level 19 23% Quality Barrage Gem in the end. (Good on him) So yeah that's my story.

Don't even bother to offer opportunities like this... it's just not worth it. The game needs more people that think like you, but it is clearly not an environment suited for it.
There's devils on each side of you with bottles in their hands.
You need one more drop of poison and you'll dream of foreign lands.
The more "nice" people that give away stuff like this there are, the easier it is for scammers to trick people into thinking they're one of the nice guys. You're part of the problem, no matter what you do. This post could just as easily be a scammer trying to get people to fall for his trick than true. Don't know. That's the problem.

Don't give stuff to people when they promise you something in return unless you're willing to lose it.

You are voluntarily participating in players vs players interaction mechanics created by GGG where decent players are helpless against scammers while scammers are actually protected by GGG (ignore list is not functional, no 'naming and shaming', no AH, in-game reports are ignored etc). Interactions like the one you described are expected outcome of such policy.

If you read the code of conduct and have at least a dozen functional neurons you would understand why naming and shamming is not allowed.

Let me make it easy for you:

In most cases you cannot prove someone actually scammed so allowing naming and shaming would generate a trend of people simply doing it to hurt others because humans in general are assholes. Add to this the fact that GGG will never have the man power to investigate all reports (hell huge AAA companies don't how could GGG) you have the policy we have. it is the perfect solution.

Another solution is to not be stupid. You can only be scammed in this game if you allow it. It have never ever happens to me and I buy challenges and sell them all the same.

For example in the case OP mentioned. If he would take the gem to corrupt and refuse to give it back it would be an ethical scam indeed. Mechanically however and from a game play point of view the other player pressed accept on the trade window while the other side was empty thus accepting to give away the gem for free to the OP.
"Never argue with an idiot. They will take you down to their level and beat you trough experience."
One way to sell this service is by hosting a twitch stream just for transparency,
and invite the customers to watch the corruption live on the streaming.
Honestly, the best way for them to help that is to have it so that when an item "poofs" it leaves behind a single tile "dust" item that can be linked in chat.

And in order to prevent someone from holding on to a random 'dust' for scamming purposes, have it so each 'dust' item will contain the name of the item that got 'poofed'

Exactly.

We should be naming & acclaiming the two heroic players who declined OP's service.
Yeah lets just discourage being a good friendly player. That would definitely help out with the new players. I remember when Fall of Oriath released we got hailed for having one of the friendlier and nicer communities. your logic of saying all good deeds should be punished or discouraged seems to fall opposite of this idea...

They could have decided to say no before wasting my portals though is what really grinded my gears. But eh its their loss more or less now, I just use the T3 Altar myself on Level ONE 20% Quality Gems.

The fact that this thread somehow devolved into suspicion and blame aimed at the OP for no reason pretty much showcases what’s wrong with the internet (and the PoE community by extension).

No good deed goes unpunished. My advice is to give away tangibles like currency or uniques when you’re feeling generous, thus justifying all the times when you keep services to yourself. Also that twitch idea was good since it actually relates to the incentive to maintain a reputation.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

Not suspicious at all, he's probably legit. But let me ask you... if you were trying to scam people by offering this service and taking their gem without returning anything and it wasn't working because no one was falling for it... what kind of post would you make in General Discussion to try to get people to fall for it? One like this? Probably.
