How we Made PATH OF EXILE: ROYALE

It was a pretty nice april fools joke, and I think this could be a good idea in between leagues.
For example, racing and this PvP event between a league. Aka both, so people who like PvE (Like me), can join a race, and people who like PvP can join the ROYALE mode instead. (People who like both, joins both obviously). I don't think the ROYALE would work as a standalone game mode, eventually people will get bored of it and the queue to reach 100 people will just take longer, and longer, and longer time to fill up. And I think the balance of PvP in PoE is not that "great", so to get it balanced for a standalone game mode would take a lot of time, and money. So yeah, the best thing would be to implement this between leagues, so we have ROYALE and races. Last edited by Barbarianos#0525 on Apr 4, 2018, 5:24:42 AM

I hate all forms of PvP, but I could tolerate this as a way to get the levels I want from Leo but not have to deal with long waits and troll builds/lag losing or partnering with some other hapless person who just wants to level up the crafting bench like me.

Well, i havent previously played any royale game before this, but i imagine this is a pvp mode which plays very naturally with the variables PoE deals with. WIth some polish, id see myself and friends playing this for sure.

occasional royale would be fine...u laughed at my 3sec laggfool? any prizes for the most number of lost and fastest to die? never played pvp..but yes..i'd like to see it again..and respawn my laggfool... she'll hunt u down again..hahaha.. cheers for the royale..luvd it =)

Didnt get a chance since i was at work, but did get to watch someone streaming it on twitch, it looked amazingly fun.
It certainly needs to be a limited time only thing, otherwise its not going to draw the crowds it needs to work. It would probably make a nice interlude between leagues? Last edited by Asmosis#7365 on Apr 4, 2018, 5:37:58 AM

I disagree with people saying that you shouldn't "waste time and resources implementing Royale".
Instead, this is a great way to revive and balance PvP, originally introduced and then disregarded by players because of its poor balance and pretty boring mods. It could easily take the place of the Sarn arena, for example... You really shouldn't see it as a joke game mode, aside from the core game, PoE: Royale has interesting potential...make PvP great again! :D |

I really enjoyed playing Royale as it was something close to the racing experience with extremely intense thinking and acting required.
And speaking of that intensity I mean it was a bit exhausting to run it over and over again as I did. The 12-minutes tripple races were pretty much similair in terms of excitement and rush, but they had a nice pause inbetween so you can catch your breath and get ready. My guess is that adding Royale as a racing mode is totally relevant. And even as a racing substitute (in cases where full race event can not be done) it will be a really nice way to spend my time between leagues. So I hope you will keep it ready (investing some worktime in balance and adding possible variations) to deploy occasionally or to add as a part of racing event (e.g. a pre-event before actual races to give newbies the idea and spirit of racing and competition). |

I must have played about 40 of those matches myself. It was an interesting game mode that led me to an odd idea of how it could be added.
What if you added it as a timed instance somewhere on the Atlas? Say, a zone that force resets every 5 minutes. Portals around the outside in random spots, and players couldn't create their own portals inside the instance. The goal would be getting in and out with whatever you could carry without getting killed by the vastly overpowered critters or other players. But you have to be out of the instance before it closes to keep any loot. You could even keep the death wall as the closer for the instance. Have it push out from the center to drive people off the island. Then, if you wanted to be really nasty, you could have monster portals open all around the edge. Staying in until the zone ends becomes dangerous - you'd have to fight your way out. Last edited by Tarnakk4#0630 on Apr 4, 2018, 5:43:35 AM
