Stash/Inventory: Too Many Items

If you close out your stash with an item in hand, there's no way to open it up again. If you then don't have the inventory space to place the item down, you're then stuck with being forced to destroy something.

Normally I wouldn't even care since random drops are random but the armor shown here still has gems I'm using stuck in it and the axe in hand is the basis for my next big weapon upgrade. Have to say I'm less than amused at this particular game mechanic interaction.

I still have game open in this exact state as I'm posting this. I'll be leaving it running as long as I reasonably can in hopes of receiving a response to this issue.

Sorry for your loss, I think there's nothing else to be done at this point.
What would you suggest to improve this situation?

Maybe the item could automatically go to your stash, but it can also be a problem if it's full.

How did you end up in this situation in the first place?
Shouldn't you empty your inventory by selling stuff or putting it in your staff before doing something like... I don't even know how you did it ^^;;

First off: Why? Why should I have to do this? Other games in the genre have never had the 'you drop it in town you lose it' mechanic. Why should I have to adjust my playstyle to something that makes my experience with the game less than optimal?

Second: That's what I was in the process of doing. I was looking at my haul and deciding what I wanted to keep when I saw I'd met the requirements of some armor I had stored previously in the hopes that it would do well for this character.

So I took out the armour to do a compare swap (since we can't mouse-over to compare item stats yet, but that's a separate issue) and ended up with too many items on hand and an impossible tetris game to resolve them.

I've found that I am able to open my stash when I have an item in hand? It only happened when I clicked on the Stash name though.

Tested this, didn't work for me. Are you running the same game version as I?

This works for me, but you have to be holding down Alt while clicking almost directly in the center of the word "STASH" with the cursor, which is on top of the item. On the outer edges of the word does not seem to work.

Also, when it does open using this method, it seems like it opens twice quickly. The stash interface opens, then flickers out, then opens again. It's odd, but it seems to function.

Huh. Gave it a shot and works as advertised. If this is a feature I really wish it were advertised somewhere. :S
I'm not sure if it is a 'feature', or just how it happens to work - In a way, it can be exploitable, because you can carry one more item to town with you by logging out and in again with an item on the cursor. We've got to decide how we're going to solve this - I'll talk to the others and figure out what the desired behaviour is.

Good to see you guys are responding to player concerns in such immediate ways. I have high hopes for this game. :)

 Emperor forbid!

Honestly, those who clear fast do so by not worrying about going to town too often in the first place. I think I leave more than 85% of items behind on an average run and, yes, often have space left over when I head back to town - just not in this case. If being able to squeeze an extra 2x3 out of your inventory space is the worst abuse case you can come up with I think you're riding high and clear.

Cheers. Best of luck.

Just for information: this was a common feature in Diablo2, where "in hand" is managed as an "additional" equipment slot. (If you grab an item with open inventory and then log out, you still have the item in your hand at next login.)

Problem with this at POE, is that you cant lay things down in the camps to manage your stash.

So I think it must be avoided..?
Easy(?) idea: add a confirmation on regulary exit "Item in hand will be lost/destroyed. Continue?". On a "hard exit" (Alt-F4, task manager...) there will be no confirmation possible, but... not your fault.

Addon: main problem for other behaviour: the stash & inventory management can not guarantee you to have an place you can place a big item (or to swap against another), and by missing the needed requirements, an item could also be unswappable against your current equpiment.
Actually I have no idea to solve this without dropping.
