What I know on how to manage elder & shaper presence (updated 12/14/17)

i saw the wrong map sorry, problem was on barrow not on sulphur vents but is the same idea. when you did barrows, the shaper won ashen wood so the area between barrow and sulphur vents had no connection so you lose those maps. in that case would be better to do lava chamber. shaper only can win adyacent map to his influence so in the worst case, you would lose lava chamber and no all the maps forward ashen wood(and if shaper won lava chamber, you can do it again and still not lose the rest of the maps). sometimes you can have 2 paths to and influenced area because from some maps can be reached from 2 ways

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but it's worth noting that the Elder doesn't care about Shaped maps. If you encounter a guardian in a shaped Waste Pool(t14) map, the guardian will act as if it's a regular Waste Pool (t9) map.

Similarly, if the Elder is on a shaped version of a map, their guardians will have their phases adjusted according to the original map tier. If the Elder resides in a Shaped Bog map, he'll regard it as a normal Bog map, meaning the guardians will only have 2 phases instead of the expected 3.

Most importantly, if the Elder or any of his guardians reside in a Shaped map, and the atlas indicates that there is a Memory Fragment on any of those maps, it's a blatant lie.

I'm not exactly sure what the intention is, but I'm pretty sure something isn't working as intended.

EDIT: Guardians level is the same as the Elder level, so it all depends on where your Elder spawns.

I've noticed something though. When ever I run a shaper influenced map to get the elder influence on it, before i reach the boss somehow the elder has already taken over it. Thus when I kill the boss, it becomes non-elder influenced. Is this a bug or a hidden mechanic?

Most of the times, the elder will take over shaper influenced areas if those areas were directly linked to an already existing elder area. But not always.

The influence doesn't only shift when you kill a boss, it happens well before that. I'm not sure what the actual trigger is but I'm guessing it's a hidden mechanic to prevent people from farming either influence without shifting it over.

tx, I understand better now, and I finally succeeded in popping the (white) elder and killing his minions and himself. Now will try the yellow version ;-)

Just another question : once the guardians and elder appeared on the map, can they dissapear (unless you kill them of course). I mean : should I rush killing them, fearing that the shapper take back their maps or something like this ? Or could I let them on the map forever, mapping in another corner of the atlas and killing them in one week ? (in case I need to level my char and gear it properly for the fight ;-) )

think no, when i got another frustrated elder tier 14 started a new char and did tons of low maps and the elder and his guardians don't disappear.

guardians always have the same level as elder so the location of elder is the most important here

So I shaped all maps until tier 9, so I need tier 9 and 10 shaper orbs but
I cleared white and yellow elder and started preparing for red one but then it showed up just when I had a few red maps. His guardian is on red, other guardian on yellow and elder on yellow map.

So I heard it has to be on red map to count as red elder but I cant move it and the only way is to shape that tier 9 map to become red one.

The problem is, I'm running tier 9,10 maps for so long and shaper orbs are simply not showing up anywhere. I know they spawn in shaper influenced maps but none of the maps have blue circle around.

Am I doing something wrong? How can I get tier 9,10 shaper orbs?

When the elder appear on a map, if I run other map around to make the elder zone bigger, is there a chance for the Elder to change location in a higher T map?
