Hi GGG ! Thanks for providing us a french translation, and above all thanks for your amazing game.
Whining
Translating a whole game is huge and must take quite some time & work. Such a game, its lore, wording and all those mechanics, this is certainly very hard to translate.
I think we can all understand that. Some choices in the translation are however hard to understand. Sometimes even literally hard to understand. Especially since, according to Wikipedia : "The percentage of modern English words derived from each language group are as follows: French: ~29% Latin (including words used only in scientific, medical or legal contexts): ~29% Germanic: ~26% Others: ~17%" So why didn't "Vulnerability" become "Vulnérabilité" ? Why some active skill gems, in other words ACTIONS, became names ? (lacerate --> laceration) What about "Minion" / "Mignon" ? Path of Exile is quite a challenging game, most mechanisms are very interesting but require a bit of thinking : the current translation often makes it complicated or senseless when not needed. I assume the whole point of translating is to get new players from different countries. I would love to see the french-speaking PoE community grow. I currently am seriously concerned and afraid this won't happen, based on the current state of the french translation (despite all the effort one can scent was necessary to translate PoE, I am personally going to keep on playing in english). Here is a bit of feedback/bugs report : General thoughts : Stats - Offense - DAMAGE / "Dégâts" : "Dégâts" is used for damage to a building after an earthquake, for example. The usual translation for "damage" is the very generic "dommages" (because "blessure/wound" would not work either) - ACCURACY / "Score de précision" : feels like we're playing D&D with a dice. Suggestion : "Taux de précision" or just "Précision". - AILMENTS / altérations : An "altération" is a (slight to important) change. Suggestions : "statut" (status) or "état" (state). - CHANCE TO POISON : Not translated. Suggestion : "Chance d'empoisonner" (note : same word used in french and english) Stats - Defense - COLD RESISTANCE / "Résistance au froid" : is the correct translation. Why is the alternative translation "Résistance à la glace" used for some items ? Stats - Misc - FLASK / "Flacon" : NO. WAY. See the posts above : potion, "flasque" is ok, but "Flacon"... no :D - POWER CHARGE / "Charge de pouvoir" : depending on what you asked for, "Charge de puissance" might make more sense. Superman has powers = "Superman a des pouvoirs". Superman has power / is powerful = Superman a de la puissance / est puissant". - EVASION / "Taux d'évasion" and "Score d'évasion" : both translations exist (stats/items). The first is the best one. Items - Affixes - COLD RESISTANCE / "Résistance au froid" : is the correct translation. Why is the alternative translation "Résistance à la glace" used for some items ? - Atziri's Promise : the end of the wording "pendant l'effet de la flasque" ("during flask effect") in the third mod is missing Not translated / Partly translated / so-weirdly-translated-it-doesn't-make-any-sense 1) General wording - Chance to poison : not translated - Increased elemental damage with attack skills : not translated - Minions / "Créatures" : "Mignion" can be used in french (see Magic The Gathering). Alternative suggestion : "Invocations" (note : same word used in french and english, not a false friend) 2) Items - The Wasp Nest : "Attacks with this Weapon deal 80-120 added Chaos Damage against Enemies affected by 5 or more Poisons" is not translated - Dendrobate : partly translated - Lycosidae: first and last mod not translated, flavor text not translated ("A true predator does not chase ; it waits" --> "Un vrai prédateur ne pourchasse pas ; il attend" - Maligaro's Cruelty : partly translated - Bisco's Leash : "1% increased rarity..." not translated - Divine Vessel : lore not translated - Bino's Kitchen knive "On Killing a Poisoned Enemy, nearby Enemies are Poisoned and nearby Allies Regenerate 200 Life per second" seems to have been purely Google-translated. Edit : Google actually translated it better Ô_o 3) Gems a) RED - Spell totem : "Supported Skills deal (35-26)% less Damage" --> The translation just makes no sense. - Vulnerability / Enfeeble : naming those curses "Fragilité" and "Affaiblissement" is awkward. "Fragilité" may mean fragility or weakness, in a way. Suggestion : "Vulnérabilité" for "Vulnerability" ? - Immortal call / "Clameur d'immortalité" : a "Clameur" is a protest, mainly from a crowd. An immortal is an "immortel". "Immortalité" means "Immortality". If "Immortal Call" means that the character is calling for immortality to fall on him, the current translation is not correct. Suggestion : "Appel à l'immortalité" (literally "call for immortality") or "Appel de l'immortel" (~call of the immortal) - CWDT / "Déclenchement par seuil de dégâts subis" : The french translation means "Triggering by threshold of damage taken". "Déclenchement quand des dommages sont subis" feels more accurate, referring to a threshold isn't. - Glacial Hammer : "10% increased effect of chill" not translated - Chance to bleed support : Abilities granted not translated - Ruthless support : Abilities granted not translated - Reckoning : "Trigger this skill..." not translated - Melee splash : "Supported skills deal.." not translated - Maim : "Supported attacks have 30% chance..." not translated - Bloodlust Support : "Supported attacks cannot" not translated - Vengeance : "30% chance to trigger" not translated - Ancestral W.C. : "+10 to melee range" not translated - Summon stone golem : "30% de vie maximale des sbires accrue" (30% increased Minion Maximum Life) uses "sbires" instead of "creature". Note that a "sbire" isn't even close to be a minion, a creature or a summon. - CoMK : "Supported melee attacks will..." not translated - Brutality : "Supported skills deal no chaos damage" not translated b) GREEN - Shrapnel : "Arrows pierce X additional targets" not translated - Onslaught : Abilities granted not translated. - Riposte : "Trigger this skill" not translated - Puncture : "Causes bleeding" not translated - Mirror arrow : Uses both "créatures" and "sbires" (see Summon Stone Golem) - Lacerate : Description of the skill not translated. Lacerate is a verb, an action, perfect for a skill gem. The french translation "lacération" is a name (en : laceration). - Pierce : Abilities granted not translated - Bear Trap : "Locks enemy in place" translated to "Vérouille l'ennemi sur place". Unless the enemy is a door or a locker this isn't correct. Suggestion : "Immobilise l'ennemi sur place". Note that this is actually the translation used in the description of the skill (!?) : "Immobilise un seul ennemi". - Siege ballista : "Arrows pierce X additional target" not translated - Multiple traps : "Supported skills deal X less.." not translated - Freeze mine : The way "Freezes enemies as though dealing (200-390)% more Damage" is translated doesn't make sense - Blink arrow : Uses both "créatures" and "sbires" (see Summon Stone Golem) - Blade Vortex : "X% More damage with hits..." and "X% more damage with ailments.." and description of the skill not translated - Physical PAD : "Supported attack skills deal X% more damage with bleeding..." not translated - Hypothermia : "Supported skills have X% increased effect of chill" not translated - Coldbite : Added cold damage per frenzy charge not translated - Poison : Ability granted not translated - Blast Rain : "Causes X explosions" not translated - Blade Flurry : Description of the skill not translated, "X% more damage with hits and.." not translated - Charged Dash : Description of the skill not translated, "X% more damage with hits at maximum.." not translated - Summon Ice Golem : Uses both "créatures" and "sbires" (see Summon Stone Golem) - CoC : "Supported attacks will triger.." not translated - Chain : "Supported skills deal..." not translated. Very weird choice of translation, because chain can be translated by "chaîne" (looks familiar ?) and the verb ("enchaîner"/to chain) is actually used in the description and the mods.. Plus, Magma Orb uses the wording "Enchaîne +1 fois" !? - Vile Toxins : Abilities granted not translated c) BLUE - Wither : Description of the skill not translated. - Summon Lightning Golem : Description of the skill not translated. - Frostbite : "Frilosité" is a so cute euphemism ! No suggestion though :D - Freezing pulse : "Projectiles pierce.." not translated. As mentioned several times, there also is an issue with the choices when it comes to ice/cold/glacial/chill/freeze... - Frostbolt : Description of the skill not translated, "Projectiles pierce.." not translated - Zombie : "percussion de zone" doesn't make any sense, roughly translates to "drums from the ghetto" - Arcane surge : Abilities granted not translated - Cold Snap : "X% increased effect of chill" not translated - SRS (love this skill) : "Minions gain X%..." not translated - Minion Damage : Unnecessary elevated language used to describe the skill. Really. Minefield does it better. - Unbound Ailments : Parts of the abilities granted not translated - Summon skels : "Minions gain X% less added.." not translated - Firestorm : translation for "One impact every.." is incorrect - Ice Spear : "X% increased effect of chill" not translated - Incinerate : Parts of the abilities granted not translated. Same issue as lacerate. Incinerate is a verb, shouldn't the translation be "Incinérer" ? - Fire nova mine : "X% more damage with hits and ailments per.." not translated - Spirit Offering : THIS ONE IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE ! - Scorching Ray : Description of the skill not translated - Controlled Destruction : "chances de coupt critique" instead of "coup critique" - Flameblast : Parts of the abilities granted not translated - Discharge : "X% less damage.." not translated - Vortex : Skill description not translated - Raise Spectre : raise is a verb, "réanimation" is a name (?!) - Dark Pact : Skill description not translated, parts of the abilities either - Storm Burst : Skill description not translated - Cast when stunned : "X% Chance to trigger..." not translated - Ignite proliferation : Abilities granted not translated 4) Misc a) Prophecies - The mysterious gift / Le présent mystérieux - The use of "présent" (elevated language) is confusing (it feels like the present time is mysterious, which doesn't make sense when it comes to prophecies) b) Environment - The stash becomes the "réserve", which makes me think more or less of the small room where you store food and cans at home, or that old copy machine that was supposed to be thrown away one day at work. Why not "Coffre" ??? - " No, this is correct. Imperative and not present, so no "S" needed. "Yes it does, but it is accurate. And what if GGG decides to give us an "Orb of tempests" ? Edit 1 : Typos Edit 2 : whining Edit 3 : added red and green gems Edit 4 : added blue gems (thanks to Lilly Roth) Last edited by Mary_Alambra#1259 on Oct 12, 2017, 6:33:41 PM

more inconsistencies of item/mechanism descriptions, for instance on Widowmaker:
Both those are increased in the original, but translated with two different words: . 23% de Chance de Coup Critique accrue . 100% d'Augmentation des Chances de coup critique contre les Ennemis dont la Vie est Pleine This is attack leech life: . 1% des Dégâts de l'Attaque Drainent de la Vie sur un Coup critique However the passive nodes on the tree are translated as: . Dégats d'Attaque Volés en Vie |

" Gelure, non ? But "Frilosité" does indeed suggest you are more suspectible to Cold damage (matching the curse effect), whereas Frostbite/Gelure is a straight injury. |
|
Winter's Burial:
12% des Dégâts de Glace accrus Avec au moins 40 de Force dans le Rayon, Marteau de glace inflige uniquement ses Dégâts de froid sous forme de Dégâts collatéraux Avec au moins 40 de Force dans le Rayon, 25% de Conversion des Dégâts physiques de Marteau de glace en Dégâts de froid . as already mentionned this has both "Dégâts de Glace" and "Dégâts de froid" for "cold damage". . I find the splash damage affix (dégâts collatéraux) really hard to understand but it may just be me. I would suggest to rephrase to something like: Les dégâts de froid de Marteau de glace font aussi des dégâts collatéraux. Sunder (Déchirure tellurique) 15% de Vitesse d'Attaque en moins Les ondes de choc ont 60% de Perte de Dégâts => imo should be for consistency: Les ondes de choc font 60% de Dégâts en moins |

" Exactly... This one is hard to translate. |

" There's another problem, there is a unique jewel named collateral damage that has been translated as... dommage collatéral... can't use the same term (collatéral) for both... that's why we had rapid decay renamed in swift affliction. |
|
