[3.0][3.1][3.2] Death's Oath CI Occultist 96,9k chaos dps plus blight, shaper kill video

Thanks for your reply. Changed boots. Just need to upgrade items now and six color the armor. Having no problems so far, but only at 7,400 ES. Still quite tanky with the killing speed. What gems should have raised quality first?

Hey everyone, I did some research before attempting this build and had an idea that I wanted to test.

Seems to me the one thing this build could really get a boost in would be single target DPS against bosses.

The ideal 6 sockets on our chest would be

Arcane Surge -> Swift Affliction -> Less Duration -> Efficacy -> Void Manipulation -> Concentrated Effect

What if during boss battles you replace Concentrated Effect with Essence Drain (and have the sockets linked of course)

I've only just started using the chest yesterday but so far with that strategy I feel like bosses are indeed melting faster (hard to tell perfectly while my character/gems are still low level).

All the other support gems will still enhance Essence Drain (including Arcane Surge).

What you'll end up having is two 6 Linked Skills by sacrificing the seventh link (concentrated effect - which doesn't help Essence Drain at all).

It's a little more work but since Essence Drain has a duration you can still mix it up with Blight as well by shooting the Essence Drain, then Blight for the duration your Essence Drain currently DoTs for.

Obviously for running through maps you can leave the Concentrated Effect in there since it's got quite the more multiplier on it.

If you're going to do this, wouldn't Contagion be better than Essence Drain?

Like I said, this is mainly to address bossing. So Essence Drain is by far the better dot for single target.

Don't need contagion for running through mobs because the Death's Oath is already great.

Contagion being AOE would make it easier to hit a wide area, but the difference in damage is huge, and it's more often just used in combination with Essence Drain while levelling and for map clearing.

Just taken from the wiki:

Contagion: Deals (3.5-235.9) Base Chaos Damage per second

Essence Drain: Deals (21.3-1159) Base Chaos Damage per second
Regenerate 0.5% of Debuff Damage as Life
Base duration is 3.8 seconds
Deals (6-334) to (9-501) Chaos Damage
Bad dps for what it costs..
Btw Trickster does more dmg than witch occ as far as you can stack frenzy and power charges.
Occ is more consistent for bosses though.
I spent less than an exalted orb on my stuff and get around 95k DeathAura dps when enemy is hindered.

Just thinking about what can be done to improve the build in a general sense. Death's Oath can be fantastic map clear on a budget, you'll take longer on bosses and that's why tossing an Essence Drain can help balance that.

As a side note the 6L was just incidental. I was originally just going to 5L the chest to test slapping on a 5L Essence Drain.. but the mythical 6L actually came around before the 5L did.

I didn't offer the suggestion to improve the cost effectiveness of the build =), was hoping to add something that hadn't been said before.

I guess my only concern was the 'aiming' of Essence Drain on the boss. I already don't like having to stand still while using Blight but there's no denying it's effectiveness. I wonder what adding Cast while Channeling and Essense Drain with Blight would be like? That way there's no gem swapping for bosses.
I would like to see what will come out from this discussion :)
The most interesting idea is to incorporate ED in blight set up, but that needs some math to be done to see if it's worth it.
So far stacking blight for bosses is quite ok and most of them you can face tank.
Clear speed and basically everything is getting lost, when you are playing with someone else thou...
You can't kill and get all the bonuses when someone else one-shots almost killed mobs around you and most dot-dps builds loses a lot time when hp of mobs grow (as it is when you are in a party).

P.S. Hope I didn't write anything funny since I didn't sleep so well last night.

Edit: Personally I hate to swap gems for anything... except for Elreon's defend totem quest, inc. aoe for conc. effect

I tried it for a bit ... it wasn't as strong. The initial 'hit' seemed stronger (so it was nice for Rares). But for really strong enemies like bosses, you want the Blight 'stacks' to be as strong as possible and it became clear a strong Blight on it's own downed the monsters better than a CwC setup with ED. Would have been cool had it worked though. It we were using a 6L staff instead of 4L gloves then it might have been better.
So I started this build originally because Elder spawned on Lighthouse on my Atlas and I just wanted a build to autopilot the map over and over for the "Complete Influenced Maps" challenge. Pretty much the second I hit 62 and put on the Death's Oath I was having a good time in Blood Aqueducts, probably the fastest grind to 70 I've ever done.

After I did all the Lighthouse's I needed to do I thought to myself, "How high can I push this build?" I mean, I know it was "Shaper viable" but wasn't too sure how far I could push the build on the most basic investment. I think I was comfortably doing T10 maps before I started to really invest into the build and take it into the end game.

Only minor changes made to the skill tree, mainly dropping the Shadow start Chaos nodes for sockets because Abyss jewels are all kinds of broken. I made some changes to the gear ultimately because I wanted to enhance the defenses of the build for endgame so I went for Heretic's Veil over Eber's Unification and instead of a Rare ES amulet, I'm using the Chaos Impresence to free up enough mana to run Arctic Armour which I think really helped beef up the build on bosses because you're stationary while casting Blight; the increased damage over time from the amulet helps to offset some of the damage lost from dropping Eber's also. Currently sitting at 8.3k ES at level 92 with 3 days 12 hours played time. If I hit 93, I'll probably pick up Harrier for the move speed down near Scion Start.

And here's a small album of the kills I've managed so far. Shaper's guardians are pretty much on farm, Minotaur and Phoenix seemed easiest for this build out of the 4. Red Elder and Shaper kills included :D https://imgur.com/a/0Mvur

I can definitely recommend this build even at the low end of investment. It's super quick and satisfying map clear and not bad boss damage even before I got my Breath of the Council when I was just farming T4's. At the high end of investment, I'm now running rampant in T13-15's, regularly killing Shaper's Guardians for the end game grind this league and I'm doing so comfortably.

Thanks to SmoczyArchaniol for the build, having alot of fun with it!
