Legacy League Feedback
Disclaimer: This is just my personal opinion for the purpose of feedback. I do not claim to be speaking for all players.
I've been playing PoE a lot (too much!) over the last 12 months and completed 40/40 challenges in the previous 3 leagues. However, in this league I will not be going for 40/40. I got 36 challenges (i.e. all prizes) and will spend my time elsewhere before the release of 3.0. Here's why. 1. No new content. Chris mentioned in one of his interviews that the general plan was to alternate expansions with good leagues. An expansion is released alongside with a poorer quality league because there is already a lot of stuff coming with the expansion. But between the expansions they would release higher quality leagues. That promise is clearly broken in Legacy. There is nothing new to do here. Its just a 'Zana deluxe' league where you can run multiple mods together. Most of them are pretty pointless too, as they are already a part of the core game. 2. Insane endgame grinds. In the previous leagues, the endgame grinds gave me motivation to stay and play longer. 40/40 was a cool achievement, it required some commitment, but it was doable. GGG kept pushing it a little further with each league. 10,000 map tiers in the previous league was really stretching my patience. But at least there was a choice to do harder maps to get more points. Mapping in high tiers is profitable and not entirely dull, so it was acceptable to me. Not this time: you have to run 1000 maps no matter what, and there is no reward for doing harder maps. That's a fail right there. Doing higher tier maps should be more rewarding than T6 (Strand, Strand, Strand, Strand, Strand... fuck it!) And then there is the final challenge. It used to take 3 grinds, although the number of kills was increasing from league to league. Now it has reached an absurd level, and they want 4 grinds instead of 3. The options? One is totally good: kill 40 Guardians. That's challenging and profitable. I wish all grinds were like that. Next: 100 Uber Labs, 100 Atziris. Boring but still OK and rewarding enough to provide some motivation. But that's only 3, you have to do 1 more. And it's one of the absolutely retarded ones: - 100 Breachlords: but it's not the main league mechanic anymore! They are a lot more rare than they were in Breach. And the rewards suck except for HOWA. - 50 Rigwalds: that's an insane amount of talisman farming (5*5*5*50). Even buying 50 T3 sets is crazy. - 100 Pale Councils: are you out of your mind?! I want to punch the person who came up with this in the face. And then make him do this grind himself, in SSF mode. To add an insult to an injury, Reach of the Council was nerfed AGAIN and is not even worth farming anymore. What made me stay and play longer in the previous leagues has turned into its opposite: I don't want to spend a minute longer here than it takes to get 36/40. I refuse to waste my time on this shit. And finally, the cherry on top: 3. The Relics. It's a scam. As simple as that. GGG wanted the players to spend time in the game but couldn't offer them enough reasons to play (because they are too busy working on 3.0). But creating an unreachable carrot on the stick will only backfire when the players realize that they got tricked. The teasers were oh so teasing. GGG showed ZiggyD the legacy Facebreaker, so then he got everybody excited. Made people believe that they could actually find stuff like that. But there were early warning signs too: legacy items with WORSE stats? Why? What kinda reward is that? If you put sprinkles on a piece of horse manure, it doesn't become anything else. It's still a piece of shit. With sprinkles. Of course, nobody knew just how rare the Reliquary keys would be, and that 99% of their contents would be horseshit. With sprinkles. That patch note about 'caring about balance' was clever, have to give GGG that. But it doesn't take very long to realize that the chance of getting anything good is zero point zero percent. By the time you can afford (or find) those items in this league, the league will be over, and in Standard you can just buy them already. Overall: This league could have worked better if GGG were honest with us that they didn't have time to make a good league while working on 3.0, instead of trying to capture the players' time with insane challenges and unreachable rewards. With the mod combos possible in this league, they could have created a lot more of rare and fun challenges along the lines of 'Complete these encounters I/II'. And the Relics simply ruined the whole thing. Getting nothing from an ultra rare drop is disappointing. Getting a piece of shit with sprinkles on top is insulting. This league served as a reminder that I've been spending too much time in Path of Exile. And it's a perfect time to catch up on other games that I have been neglecting, before PoE 3.0 captivates my attention again. Good luck with your player retention stats, GGG. i played breach alot, i mean really alot for me personally. Levelled three chars to 92+. Even got 40/40 challenges, which is a first for me. Best league ever.
This league i'm content with 90 max and 24/40 for the weapon effect. The grind puts me off really, it feels like GGG got a bit too greedy this time. The micromanagement is starting to get on my nerves. The constant artificial stimulus of the economy is also grating, you are basically forced to buy your challenges (specific maps, boss-kills etc). It didnt feel this bad in breach, I only bought one there. It's fine if one or two challenges needs to be bought to be completed realistically, but I cant see myself doing even the 36 challenges in Legacy. It's just a bit too much. " a) They do have a seperate team b) Most of the content is the same for console and pc " The 36/40 is easy this league and honestly I think that was on purpose. 2.6 was never meant to exist, because they originally wanted to bring 3.0 a bit earlier, but you know how things went. They also likely thought that a lot of people might hop into the 3.0 beta once it is avaible. Legacy seems like a perfect league to test out leaguestones and see how the buffed up uniques work out and if some of them still need work. If they make the right conclusions from this league it served it's purpose. I'm likely not playing as much myself, which also is due to me moving soon, but in general wouldn't you want a bit more relaxed league before 3.0 to safe a bit of energy? :P " Honestly that is propably one of the biggest issues. Breach was so fun, propably every league they could have put after breach had to be less fun. The same happened with Ambush, which was so enjoyable that people disliked anything that replaced it. " The reason here obviously is 3.0. They likely just couldn't pull individual things from 3.0 into 2.6 so they had to essentially put a pretty shallow league before it, because the content simply wasn't ready. Last year they intended 3.0 to follow 2.5, it was only during 2.5 that they actually mentioned a patch 2.6 existing, which is propably due to delays. |

Best league so far. It finally ties mechanics together.
"Content" and "Nothing new to do here". Don't be a joke. No league whatsoever introduced new content. The mechanics get old after you do them once and at the end of the league they may get added to the core game, but completely neutered. What new content has been added so far as part of a league? Breach? Go to the designated point, farm splinters, repeat. Essence? Click on the object 3 times, farm essences. Prophecy? Run around. Talisman? Farm, collect, farm more. Ambush? Click on the box, kill everything. Same with every other league. Not one of the leagues has altered they way you play or progress the game in any kind of way. With the league stones we got control over a core part of the game without having to level a master for days or sink a life worth of currency on the casual side. Sextants, prophecies, and leagues tie together with maps. It's not perfect, but I'd rather have this flashed out than another point and click league that gets old after A1N. |

" Bwahahahaha. Honest? You mean as honest as they were when they told us they didnt want us to feel like we need to invest in AoE all the time when they really meant "We want to limit how much you can get."? Or the time they talked about the golden future of PoE and all their plans while the development had to scrap every single idea that wouldnt work on a goddamn Xbox? Or is it overall that they kept the xbox thing secret because they wouldnt have gotten any of the supporters to pay money if they knew what the future holds? Developers are NEVER honest. Get used to it. |

" What? You don't like checking leaguestones, checking sextants, rolling maps, dumping currency, dumping essences, after maps? /s This league was ridiculous with inventory management. It's super fucking annoying. I'm tired of the essence/talisman/leaguestone type of shit. |

I personally don't mind the league. Some leaguestones don't make sense to choose over other ones(such as warbands or prophecy). Since I hate the current meta, the only reason I play the league is coz of ssf.
