Maximum possible energy shield obtainable

This is as a solo witch occultist, I did not factor in an aura buffer, which could make the maximum es much higher

Max es possible calculations (2.5):


rare jewels: cobalt: 8% max es + 26 int (dex-int hybrid + flat pure int)


Used one energy from within at the Melding Cluster


(Base ES + Added ES) * (1 + (Quality + %Es)/100) is the formula for gear flat es calculations


14 all attr on gloves/chest/hat/boots/shield comes from haku craft

level 26 discipline (in +1 gems item with lv 4 empower): 384 flat + 48% aura effectiveness = 568.32 flat = 3949.36 flat + 756 % max + 15% more max

with discipline: 34335.74 ENERGY SHIELD

level 26 vaal discipline (in +1 gems item with level 4 empower): 1153 flat + 48% aura effectiveness = 1706.44 flat = 5655.8 flat + 756% max + 15% more max

with vaal discipline: 49171.52 ENERGY SHIELD

This was probably using a very high mana guardian support aurabot which can achieve around 15k mana quite easily which translates into a lot of es, combined with vaal discipline and discipline in a +2 vaal gems alphas howl with generosity can give much more than a solo player can achieve.

This has been an amusing exercise of futility but I believe I've managed to optimize the tree further as a Scion. The reasoning being that an Ascendant receives 32% increased Energy Shield from her ascendancy (60 Intelligence plus her Occultist notable) compared to an Occultist's 48% maximum, but also 3 additional skill points (Path of the Witch is taken). The Ascendant's Hierophant notable also grants 10% of maximum mana as extra Energy Shield, which should eventually surpass the Occultist's Wicked Ward's 100 flat Energy shield bonus. Another Energy from Within jewel is used to convert life from the Cruel Preparation and Heart and Soul clusters.

Edit: replaced tree with a more efficient one. After revision, it would seem the Ascendant and Occultist end up with a surprisingly similar amount of theoretical maximum ES, assuming mana prefixes scaling the Ascendant's Hierophant's mana to ES conversion. However, the Occultist does sacrifice two of her ascendancy notables for an extra 16% increased ES, while the Ascendant doesn't sacrifice anything. If the pathing were to be tweaked for a functional CI build, it would probably come down to personal preference.

How about upgraded Chayula amulet, who grants 20% of maximum life as energy shield? I think, with all this #% passives on tree, it will be far more profitable than plain %-increase on lapis amulet.

(And also, how to fight as heavy energy tank, but without cannon? :))

No, because it doesn't really work with CI and CI gives 15% more.

Wait wait, why it does not work? It must. With CI this amulet must use maximum life like CI passive point is not allocated.

(Never tried before, but Stun mechanics with CI works in the same way..)

UPD: Well.. maybe you are right. 60% chaos-res is hints on this.

Meanwhile life...
