Well yeah, I know tooltip doesn't cover those things. I already said that when I said it doesn't account for situational or non-local modifiers. But none of these will amount to anything that takes 200 or 380k DPS even into 1 million, let alone 4.

Like I said. I do my own math, and usually it checks out with the tooltip DPS. From there, I then plug in situational and non-local modifiers to figure out my true DPS. It always checks out. And I've done this enough to know that Freezing Pulse at any of those tooltip values cannot even break 1 million DPS. I'm just trying to convince you to trust tooltip, knowing 1) what things you'd simply plug into it from there, and 2) what skills skip out on what stats. (For example, Firestorm completely ignores casts per second. It seems to assume 1 cast per second, and 1 hit per cast, if I recall correctly from my calcs & testing.)

At any rate...

Where would your Occultist version be? I'd be interested in checking that out.

I recently tried swapping my build over from Elementalist to Occultist, but it didn't go so well. She's only level 75, but that doesn't pertain to the issues I was having. I felt super squishy. I had 10k ES and Fortify & Enfeeble up at all times, but I just still always felt super squishy. I think my DPS was too low to get any decent life leech going, but it still just felt wrong. I thought that between freezing & blinding enemies, I'd have enough room for leech and Wicked Ward to kick in and make me pretty impossible to kill. But I was wrong.

Man, the only thing i trust is a time i spent to kill the boss. Just checked: in HO with auras, two golems and pendulum i have 115k. When i got my charges (7 power and 4 frenzy right now), activate Arcane surge, Atziri's promise and Rotgut, it increases. 422k was maximum that i spotted. May be it can be more, because of pendulum and some other situational things.

Also i have: wise oak, 25% penetration from elementalist passive (which i actvate by the same move i use to activate arcane surge: perform flame dash), frost bomb and diamond flask.

Also i dont use Vaal haste, which can give me more damage, and my controlled destruction still 18 level.

And pretty good jewels, rings and amulet if compare to bullshit. My profile is open, you can check it.

So, the real dps easily hits 1 mil with some optimisation. If you dont wanna trust me - check it by yourself, i m not interested in persuasion.


My Occultist version doesnt contains something special. Every man with brain can make something like that. It was described earlier in this topic. The main idea is to generate power charges because you can, then you pick all the left side, including chaos penetration. You dont need any ES passives.

For items you need:
Helmet that gives Blasphemy to all inserted curses (Heretic's veil, i guess), which will allow you to insert 3 curses and enlighten support. Using less ammount of curses has no sense in this build.
Cospri's will, cause it allows to apply 3rd curse and to penetrate hexproof.
Two Void battereys, cause it utilizes power and is cheaper then rare wands (and you can get 9 cherges, so why not?)
Belt of deciever, cause it is basically good.

May be something more, that i cant remember...

You use Warlord's mark, Projectile weakness and frost penetration curse (cant remember its name...). You can easily swap dmg curses for defensive (Enfeeble and Temporal chains). Best enchantment for helmet will be Projectile weakness effectiveness (but it is not mandatory at all).
For flasks you want to use Atziri's promise and Diamond. You will get +12% extra chaos dmg because of 3 curses, and some more from Atziri's promise. All chaos dmg will be leeched.

May be i missed something...

The hardest part here is to get right colors on the body. I thought, it is dex/int armour, but it is only dex =/

Anyway, you can run 3B 3G, it is ok, i guess.

Found my post about Occultist. I suggested to use Voidbringer gloves and two Divinarius knives if you have very low budget. They will allow you to use fortify, btw. But you will need to find a way to activate Arcane surge, cause it needs a spell.

Well my current shield is this, so I dunno if I wanna dual wield weapons:



Obviously not as good offensively as a weapon, but coming with +100 life and even some block chance could make it worth it, eh? Also lets me use Shield Charge, which always hits regardless of hit rating (unlike Leap Slam). Which, of course, means guaranteed Fortify procs.

Dual weapons have block chance too, btw. But yes, the variant with shield is viable too. All entire build is very flexible. We just need to produce power (If we use VBs, ofc. With rare weapons it might be better to play as Raider-Elementalist/Assassin Ascendant) and sustain hp and mana. How we will do that - is up to player.

Had to take a flask of max cold rez just to live on reflect maps, even as Elementalist .. (pretty bad, I know).

Because the reflect pantheon is enough to survive reflect mobs. Obviously if you plan on running reflect rolled maps you'll need to be Elementalist or run Sibyl's ring or something, but I just skip reflect maps in general.

at first @OhhPaigey great guide! im using this as mine 1st char in PoE.

But as newbie i got few questions to You Guys. First of all, i feel like i have not enough dps above tier 4 to clear map and kill bosses, i die so fast and sometimes also by 1 hit. [Im using this bugdet build]. Why could it be?

To be honest i had only currency for those wands/armor and jewel. Should i keep them? or its better to use some imbued or sth they give me 90%spell dmg, but in fact after 3rd 4th charge i can get better dmg with batteries, but i feel weaker about those -80%spell damage.

And 2nd thing- mine
passive tree, should i keep those ascendancy skills like that? or just put to 2golems.

Please just sm1 could explain me why im so weak.

Dont worry, man, you have a lot room for improvement.

First of all mention, that you have 16 lvl Freezing pulse. 20 lvl deals twice more damage.

Buy 20% quality gems, buy Skyforth (it is expencive, but quality of life worth it).

Thanks for tip! ive made gems +20 and seems better.
But got another question- with lightning warp i farm so slow, 60kkexp/h.
Can i replace mine batteriez with dual daggers and add whirling blades? or this build isnt good for daggs? i mean should i do this or it will lower mine damage. Now on full charges got 75k FP.
If its possible to use daggers + whirling blades, which budget daggers should i use?
