[2.6] Crit BF HoWAquisitor [1300 INT, 67k tooltip, 13k ES, Stun immunity] NO SKYFORTH/ASTRA

Commenting to save for later, might change my char over to this version and spend some currency!
Hi there, thanks for the build. A few questions:

-Is this build viable for reaching lvl 100?
-What have you died to so far? Ranged enemies?
-Is it possible to face tank with this build? In your videos, you use a movement skill, but I'm wondering if that's just to proc fortify, or if you're not able to tank potential one shots.
-Would black sun crest be a good idea for leveling?

Thanks
Thanks for your extensive reply, this feels very much like peer-reviewing.

First, to answer the questions you raised in your post
1) I will post the code with my calculations further down the post. Unless i forget :)
2) Indeed I did account for Inquisitor's Judgement by adjusting boss resists by -30% and -70%, respectively.
3) Oversight on my side
4) Controlled environment is a relative term since you cannot normalize and standardize all aspects of medical management in trials. Your hypothesis constitutes that drug I is more effective than drug A while providing an acceptable, similar safety profile (Ability to cope with stun). Drug A might require a secondary medication (Kiara flask) to prevent nausea, but that still is a controlled environment. Especially since your build uses flasks for constant consecrated ground.

Semi-immunity of pious path is actually highly unreliable in boss fights without flasks, subsequently resulting in your char requiring 2 sulphur flasks (who really cares about trash since its just white trash mobs right?). Furthermore, it does not remove freeze/shock/stun, only prevents it, so term is of immunity is inherently flawed unless you have 100% flask uptime against bosses.

For the comparison, we need to differentiate between two distinct concepts
1) Tool tip DPS
("As far as I know, this is the build with the highest tooltip DPS for HoWA Blade Flurry")
2) Relevant DPS

Since you suggested Tool tip DPS, lets scrutinize: the DPS showing on your character sheet in either hideout or map, with perhaps flasks up, with usually power charges on. This already eliminates curses I am afraid, since they do not show DPS increase on the tool tip. I changed your assassins mark and my conductivity therefore to Herald of thunder for both of us. And again, removed lightning penetration from the 6-link.

In order to achieve his full damage potential, the Inquisitor is required to cast a spell at least every 4 seconds (for instruments of virtue and power charges).
For the sake of controlled environment you might insist that the assassin gets to cast a spell as well every 4 seconds, perhaps Ancestral warchief? I did not include that.

All Bladeflurry and support gems were standardized to 21/20 to make comparison easier. Since you optimized your tree (and ascendancy) for damage, I followed your new tree for most of the part to ensure a controlled environment :)

Damage on tool tip should read 951 530 DPS with 10270 ES.
When DPS is divded by 2.5*APS, the actual per hit damage would be 45 042 damage.

DPS reads 1 126 372 DPS with (EDIT) 9453 ES
When divided by APS*2.5, the damage per hit on tool tip is 58 210 damage

(EDIT did not remove vaal discipline from active skills).

2) Real DPS against bosses, the relevant question after all

This one will go to the Inquisitor I think, lets have a quick look. Skills are reverted back to lightning penetration and conductivity for assassin and assassins mark for inquisitor

Inquisitor has a Base crit chance of 91.32%, reduced to 76.8% when accounting for accuracy roll and reduced curse effectiveness of assassins mark.

So he deals "true" damage 76.8% of time, for which we insert -30% to counter the innate 30% resistance of bosses, and deals reduced damage (-10% resistance for inevitable judgement) on 23.2% of hits (non-crits).

Equals 740275 plus 180235 or a a total of 920 510 DPS.

For Assassin damage is increased by Assassinate against enemies on low life (<35% of life). So damage is 569 188 (65% of regular damage) plus 342 093 (35% of increased damage) for a total of 911 281 DPS.

This does not include culling, the ongoing need for inquisitor to cast spells and interrupt channeling, or the potential of penetration vinktar that adds a valuable 10% perforation for assassin. On the other hand, a diamond flask would help inquisitor slightly more.

Conclusion: The presented data does not suggest a greater tool tip dps for Inquisitor. Moreover, effective DPS against bosses without increased resistance mods appears similar. We are sorry to inform you that your paper has not been accepted for publication in the Journal of Pathbuilding :)

Indeed it does. However, the process of peer-reviewing usually comes during the process of publishing, not after.

This paper has already been published, therefore your article is more like a letter to the editor tbh.

2) Indeed, I felt that you might have accounted for it since the DPS drop was not too unrealistically substantial. Good job.
3) You are forgiven.
4) Controlled environment is indeed a relative term. It has always been. Randomised Controlled Trials aim to control if possible all variables which can be controlled. There will however always be confounders that will require statistical analysis to even out.
It is not a hypothesis. Drug I provides the ability to have immunity to stun. Drug A only gives a few seconds of stun immunity (but does not dispel stun). What this means is that if you do not pre-empt stun and keep Kiara's on permanently, which you cannot, all it takes is one stunlock which may result in your death because even if you pop Kiara's right after you get stunned, there will stil be that split second for you to take further damage before the original stun duration wears off. That is way too sketchy.

As a doctor, what would you prefer? Immunity or short-term efficacy of pre-emptive prophylaxis/post-prophylaxis?
I agree that semi-immunity of pious path is highly unreliable in boss fights without sulphur flasks if it is sulphur flasks that you rely on. That said, it still provides the option for more protection against status ailments versus an Assassin, which has no option whatsoever. Additionally, I have already been toying with the idea of getting a Gifts from Above Diamond Ring which will pretty much ensure 100% uptime of consecrated ground, therefore removing the need for sulphur flasks at all. In that situation, Pious Path will be way more reliable, unlike Assassin which simply does not have the option.
As a medical professional, you have to agree that having options in medicine is everything. No one wants to tell a guy with cancer that because it is inoperable there is nothing they can do. No, you want to tell the guy that there is chemo/radiotherapy options, gene therapy etc etc. Options are everything in our line of care, surely you can see the point of that!

1. You presumed that it is with flasks up, when in fact the data is right in front of you in the original thread whereby no flasks were used, and this was explicitly specified.
2. Removing curses is perfectly fine, because tooltip dps has never taken into account the curses to begin with. Therefore, your addition of HoT is kinda irrelevant. It is just a move on your part to give your version an advantage by reducing the %base damage between our two versions that exists because of your inferior INT? Do note however that our versions cannot support HoT, unless you want to have just 22 unreserved mana with which you won't be able to build up more than 1 stack.
3. Now, why would you remove lightning penetration from your gem links when this is purely about optimised realistic in-game gem links for real gameplay? My argument has always been that non-inquisitor builds are pigeon-holed into using lightning penetration. Your taking away lightning penetration to use elemental focus is flagrant cheating because those are not the gem links you would use in a gameplay situation whereas mine would be the gem links I would use in a gameplay situation.

Ancestral warchief is not a spell.

All Bladeflurry and support gems were standardized to 21/20 to make comparison easier. Since you optimized your tree (and ascendancy) for damage, I followed your new tree for most of the part to ensure a controlled environment :)

I picked up on a mistake right away. You used Foe Silver Viridian Jewel on all your jewel sockets but conveniently left an Emperor's Wit in one of my jewel sockets. That is a other oversight.
In addition, as mentioned above --> you used non-realistic gem links.
Despite your playing dirty, I shall humour you once again. I have changed my gem links --> Incr. Crit Dmg to Elemental Focus and Faster Attacks to Added Lightning Damage. Unlike your gem links set up, the one I have provided is one that I can actually use in maps because it increases my effective DPS.
Also, I have removed 100% crit chance from my tree to compensate for the program automatically taking into account my ascendancy's extra 100% crit chance (which doesn't figure in the in-game tooltip DPS).

Just to resummarise the errors with the above examples
1. You used Foe Silver Viridian Jewel on all your jewel sockets but conveniently left an Emperor's Wit in one of my jewel sockets.
2. You used the effective DPS at "the release at 6 stages" for your tooltip DPS calculation when in fact tooltip DPS only takes into account the 1st stage of BF.
3. You did not address hideout tooltip DPS at all. Unless you have some realistic way of generating 7 power charges in hideout conditions that I am not aware of?

I have 10k ES while you have 9453.
Under hideout conditions with no power charges (I can still cast a spell to boost my damage btw, but I choose not to because I will play fair, unlike you).
Inquisitor's tooltip DPS = 45418.6 avg dmg with 6.5 APS and 90% hit chance = 265698.81 eDPS
Assassin's tooltip DPS = 25781.5 avg dmg with 7.74 APS and 87% hit chance = 173697.5 eDPS
My word, that is puny. Asssasins are really nothing without power charges aren't they? Inquisitors for consistent damage output award!
Under map conditions with power charges and IoV toggled
Inquisitor's tooltip DPS = 59176.4 avg dmg with 7.07 APS and 90% hit chance = 376441.6 eDPS
Assassin's tooltip DPS = 55728.4 avg dmg with 7.74 APS and 87% hit chance = 375457.6 eDPS
Inquisitor still wins out even in map conditions with the dirty assassin not using optimised gem links (no lightning penetration).

2) Real DPS against bosses, the relevant question after all

This one will go to the Inquisitor I think.

Good that you saw that.

For Assassin damage is increased by Assassinate against enemies on low life (<35% of life). So damage is 569 188 (65% of regular damage) plus 342 093 (35% of increased damage) for a total of 911 281 DPS.

I am baffled. Kindly explain how this calculation came about?
In order to calculate this you need to first know the amount of HP enemy monsters have. Do you actually have that or are you just assuming?
Regardless, damage output for assassin is dependent on power charges and inconsistent compared to inquis which produces consistent damage output.

This does not include culling, the ongoing need for inquisitor to cast spells and interrupt channeling, or the potential of penetration vinktar that adds a valuable 10% perforation for assassin. On the other hand, a diamond flask would help inquisitor slightly more.

In case you didn't know, interrupting channeling is desirable as it releases the immense pent up damage from the BF stacks. The penetration vinktar gives you 10% more damage. The +lightning attacks to vinktar gives me approx 10% more base damage, so it more or less evens out.

Conclusion: The presented data does not suggest a greater tool tip dps for Inquisitor. Moreover, effective DPS against bosses without increased resistance mods appears similar.

1. Your presented data is fraught with errors. As such, any conclusion drawn from it is invalid. My presented data still suggests a greater tooltip dps for inquisitor.
2. You will need to define 'similar', because you're making a sweeping generalisation by using it; it offers no objective value whatsoever. At the end of day, inquisitor's eDPS is higher for bosses WITH or WITHOUT increased resistance mods, and THAT my friend is objective.

Actually, the fact that this thread is on forums at all means that it has already been published, so there u go!

Thanks

- well it definitely deals enough dps to reach level 100. If you stack enough ES (or tone down damage a little) to not get one shot by reflect you should be fine. I have enough ES to not one shot myself on reflect on my dps, but in breaches I just keep vinktars perma on in case an ele reflect rare pops up. (Breaches are more dangerous because you tend to be on max stacks of BF more often than not, hence you deal more dps.

- ranged enemies don't pose me much problems actually coz of unwavering stance. I just keep moving with WB. The things I die to are predomianntly lab/map traps (I play on a terrible 200ms server). An ele reflect map has got me once when I wasn't careful and went full stacks on BF instead of swiping my way through with 1 stack of blade flurry at a time. Died to a herald of obelisk mob which used stormcall. Killed the mob, obelisks disappeared but didn't expect to get instagibbed by 10 storm calls a second later. Died to cold damage mobs a few times because I was frozen and didn't realise back then that unaffected by status ailments was different from immunity to status ailments and that popping a consecrated flask would not dispel frozen.

- I really dunno, I would still not face tank at all if possible. I mean, I suppose some bosses can be face tanked, but there are probably more that shouldn't be. Ya I use whirling blades to proc fortify but also to reposition myself/avoid the boss and allow BF to release the pent up damage that had been charged up. I don't think I have enough ES yet to tank all potential one shots. I would probably want abt 14-16k or so before I dared that. Right now my build is probably more dps oriented rather than def oriented. You can probably drop a few dos nodes and grab more ES nodes (namely witch starting area) if you want more ES. (Also grab higher ES gear than mine).

- i wouldn't recommend Black sun crest tbh, helms with +INT and resists just offer more value, even from low level on.

ok ty!
Hey thanks for writing up this guide, but I'm having an issue getting close to the DPS you (and others) have talked about with HoWA builds? For trash it's fine but single target feels meh, and without high enough DPS the leech on bosses is really low/non-existant...? Gear and stuff for reference.

I even went augury and instruments just for the extra damage. 7,977 tootip in hideout without any auras/flask/golem/charges up.

What am I missing?

Hi! Your gear is pretty decent, and 7977 tooltip dps without any auras/golem up is also pretty decent. Do however try to get an ammy with crit multi, that will improve your dps loads. I suspect that the reason you feel unable to leech is because you've only got 0.8% leech on tree. HoT with warlord's Mark may not proc all the time during boss fights if it's a prolonged fight (e.g. Breach lords/guardians) and if the boss has no adds. Even when it does proc, the less effect of curses on bosses means that your added leech from warlords mark is only 0.8%.

I also can't help but notice that you've got loads of ES nodes. If you drop just two of them and grab the two leech nodes and change warlord's mark to assassin's mark, I daresay your QOL will improve tremendously. If you want to ensure 100% curse up time on bosses, link CoH and AM to Orb of Storms on top of PCoC.

Lastly, I'm at work so I can't view your jewels, but try to prioritise double crit multi mods + attack speed on them, your dps will skyrocket if so. Also grab an ammy with WED and crit multi when u can. Those will help u alot

Hey there, love the build. Quick question though, you suggest using CoH+elemental weakness(before switching to blasphemy+AM) in the gem links section. However, in the aura/buff section you say use CoH+AM before switching to blasphemy+AM.

So which one is better before blasphemy + AM + enlighten combo? CoH+AM or CoH+EW?

Heya, glad to hear that! Sorry I should have been more specific, I'll edit the original post once I'm back home from work! CoH + elemental to weakness will primarily be for when you're still leveling, using elemental overload and haven't yet picked inevitable judgement or gone crit yet. Once you've gone crit, elemental weakness does nothing much for you, and you should then go CoH + AM to generate power charges and boost your damage. In the long run, Blasphemied AM will improve your dps much more.
