[2.6] Crit BF HoWAquisitor [1300 INT, 67k tooltip, 13k ES, Stun immunity] NO SKYFORTH/ASTRA
Leveled my raider to compare the two. Inquisitor deals waaay more dps understandably. Raider is more agile and has higher innate movement speed. That plus avatar of the veil (status immunity) makes it a joy to play.
That said, the map clearing speed for raider is still slower than inquisitor. Provided some stats of my crit BF raider version with the same gear/tree for comparison's sake. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1796080/page/5 Build of the Week 14 The first Righteous Fire/Non-Shavronne's/Shavronne's HC Shameless self-proclaimed theory-crafting extraordinaire and forum crusader Last edited by Invalesco on Jan 7, 2017, 2:23:24 PM

Hey man! Quick question about the whole HoWA ST vs BF.
Currently a raider non crit ST with 10k es and 100k gmp dps with frenzies and EO. While I can understand crit BF having better single target, do you think BF is better map clear wise as well? I feel like non crit ST has the best clear speed out of all HoWA variants due to high mobility and it's ability to clear the entire screen and even past it+you don't have to worry about -AoE map mods Last edited by KiwiPumkin on Jan 8, 2017, 12:04:05 AM

Wouldn't whirling blades be pretty slow on an inquisitor due to the low attack speed boosts you get?
| |
" Hey! I would agree that lesser aoe mods on map will slow down a crit BF inquisitor, but there are more mods that will bother a non-crit ST (e.g. +elemental resistance, elemental equilibrium). I do agree that unless you invest heavily in AOE, which I intend to on this build, non-crit ST will likely clear trash mobs faster than crit BF. That said, crit BF will catch up every now and then when a non-crit ST is fighting an elemental resist rare, and crit BF will eventually overtake a non-crit ST when it comes to killing bosses. For instance, if you compare the video of the popular redditor/youtuber who did non-crit ST: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqz-kjjsxYY Fast forward to 1:07 to see the fight versus chayula. Despite using slower projectiles to multiply the damage, he took 19 seconds to Chayula down from 3/5 health. Also, if you note his exp bar he also likely died at some point. If you look at my mini boss montage, you'll realise that despite using incr. AOE and not conc. effect, I only took 19seconds to bring chayula down from full HP. With conc. effect, I would likely have only required 12s or so. " In the beginning, yup you will find it pretty slow-going. However, later on after you've grabbed the APS nodes, you'll find that there's not that huge a difference with regards to whirling blade speed as compared to that of a raider. What would you drop for a 5l?
|
|
" assuming you've already picked enough crit nodes to make going full-blown crit worth it, I would use: BF - WED - Faster Attacks - Incr. Crit Strikes - Incr. AOE If not, and if you're still using elemental overload while leveling, I would use: BF - WED - Faster Attacks - Lightning Pen - Incr. AOE Build of the Week 14

Thoughts on using call of the brotherhood ring for the cold damage? or is it better to stay pure lightning damage.
|
|
" Call of the brotherhood is a decent placeholder if it's cheap enough. Personally however I prefer to stick with a good rare ring as it provides more dps and resists. In addition, I don't quite like to convert my lightning damage to cold damage as my priority is to shock unique bosses. The problem with conversion is that you then halve your lightning damage and you may end up dealing not enough lightning damage to shock mobs and not enough cold damage to freeze mobs, which isn't ideal. Mind you, I haven't done enough calculations to verify if I will be able to deal enough lightning and cold damage to both freeze AND shock bosses, but I suspect that may not be the case. Of course, if you wish you can also go full conversion and use 2 of those unique rings so that you can freeze bosses, with vinktars activated to shock them at the same time, but I feel you then give up too much potential dps/defensive options from two good rare rings. If the objective is to retain some utility by shattering/freezing mobs, I would recommend getting accessories with +flat cold damage on them. Ideally, I would want to get amulets/rings with the prefixes: 1. WED 2. High flat cold damage 3. +ES/%ES Unfortunately, the kind of accessories I could find were mostly flat lightning/fire damage. With enough flat cold damage on gear and the amount of crit multi we have, shattering white mobs will not be a problem, shattering/freezing magic mobs should also not be a problem, and I dare say you should be able to freeze/shatter most rares as well. Ultimately, if it's dps and resists that we're after, a rare ring will just be that much better. That's just my opinion but feel free to disagree. Hi
Very nice skill tree and build, your gear is really good. Sorry for whats coming next :) I play a HOWA BF assassin, and it surprised me that assassin is barely ever mentioned as HOWA ascendancy. I put your templar with your gear into poe.building and changed to Assassin, furthermore removed unwavering stance (80% avoidance on boots and kiaras pretty much covers stun for me) and got a couple more Power charges. Here is the tree: http://poeplanner.com/AAQAAPMWGAB3RXyXl_v1tDjlGYw2idNwUioLXfIOSBGWk5WtMxnXf8bBxewYLL8V14auVmOP-tDQX2pHBvLhY0OTJ2wLIvRtGZf0UlM9X5eVTLMgblAw0B_v6xFQNbmnK76KytO0DKEv6roNfFfJKPq4kxzcjxrr7jLRRUfAZjwF73yf35o7gpvsOClPa7eFfYV7ZlRGcYMJb56cpIcTdwfKSl-wm7XDOio4hMUZipcGxKLfmGJaJJ3Tfu967g6jivljlcztPzfUUUfnVCT9_978xQ2NW69OKiPTbyeaahX2YnkABo9gMjIQktmGvG8jNlMQF7BKiwAAAAAA Because Assassin reaches 80% Crit chance easily, I switched Crit chance Gem to lightning penetration and assassins mark to conductivity While on consecrated ground, with Power charges up, enemy is chilled (for extra inquisitor multi), same amount of skill points used if I am correct, here are the stats: Damage against trash (0% resist) Assassin 965k dps Inquisitor 591k dps Against bosses (30% resist) Assassin 674k dps Inquisitor 471k dps (reduced curse effectiveness, crit chance 80%) Against bosses with extra 40% resist (70% total!) Assassin 478k dps Inquisitor 434k dps (crit chance 80%, again) This does not even take into account for Assassin: Culling on Crits (10% more damage), but ok that can be achieved by corrupting the claw, although you have not done so. Furthermore Ambush and Assassinate give 100% MORE crit chance (translating into almost 100%) against enemies on full life and low life, plus a bit of extra multi/increased damage. I just cant see how Inquisitor wins the damage game against Crit assassin with single elemental builds. TLDR: Assassin does more damage, title misleading |

" Thanks for the compliments :) No need to apologise, I always welcome theory-crafting criticism/opportunities! Few things to point out: 1. You should provide the code to allow the rest of us to replicate your findings so as to ascertain the legitimacy of your claims. 2. I'm not sure if you are aware, and have already taken it into account into your above-mentioned calculations, but did you know that Path of Building does not take into account Inevitable Judgement's resist-ignoring attribute when calculating effective DPS? 3. You actually took one more point then me by virtue of grabbing Alira's power charge. 4. You gave up stun immunity (very important), semi-immunity to elemental status ailments as well as a ton of %ES in terms of INT for the sake of DPS by picking assassin and using your tree. Now, crit BF HoWA already deals a ton of DPS, there's no need to sacrifice our survivability for even more DPS. Now, by your username I'm assuming you're of a medical background as well. Hence therefore, you should know the importance of a controlled environment, ie keeping all comparable factors constant when doing a comparison between different classes. Now, I will proceed to do a comparison between your Assassin build and a HoWA Inquisitor build which I would go for if I did not want stun immunity or semi-immunity to elemental status ailments. I will use the same number of points as you did as well as take the power charge from Alira (like you did). I will also use multiple copies of just one type of rare jewel so as to ensure consistency. This is the jewel that gives both of us the highest DPS boost (Foe Silver Viridian Jewel). These are the codes:

Now we have two builds spending the same number of points, suffering from the same problems (stuns, elemental status ailments), using the same gear, same rare/unique jewels and enjoying the same buffs, with the only difference being the class (Assassin versus Inquisitor) and the tree pathing, which is understandable since we are both different classes. I've even tried to make our %ES similar, but my inquisitor version still has marginally higher %ES (combined from gear + INT from tree). Now, under the below-mentioned configurations: 1. Power Charges Up 2. Cast + Attacked recently 3. Zero status ailment immunity on the enemy, so you don't have to worry about enemy being chilled. We can proceed to compare the effective DPS of BF released at 6 stages under the various conditions: Damage against trash (0% resist) Assassin 1111563.6 DPS (Crit chance 91.11%) Inquisitor 1116405.5 DPS (Crit chance 91.32%) --> The Inquisitor wins, but who really cares since its just white trash mobs right? Against bosses (30% resist) Now, over here I had to configure the settings a little as the application does not take into account inevitable judgement. I shall therefore have to manually adjust stuff. With the less effect of curses on bosses, my crit chance is 85.32% versus 91.32% before. This means that 14.68% of my hits will be non-crits, but these will still penetrate 10% of boss elemental resistance. The boss' effective resistance for me will thus be: 20% * 0.1468 = 2.936%. In order to create this setting, I shall have to tick the Is the enemy a boss? checkbox but under the Enemy Lightning Resistance I shall put -27. Note: this is for the Inquisitor Version. For the Assassin version I just need to check the boss checkbox and leave the Enemy Lightning Resistance checkbox empty. Assassin 778674.8 dps (Crit chance 91.11%) Inquisitor 920220.7 dps (Crit chance 85.32%) --> The Inquisitor wins by a fair margin Against bosses with extra 40% resist (70% total!) 70 * 0.1468 = 10.276. For inquisitor version, I set the Enemy Lightning Resistance to -19 (which underestimates my damage by almost 1% because I can't put decimal points) Assassin 554444.9 dps Inquisitor 846677.7 dps (crit chance 80%, again) --> The Inquisitor wins by an even larger margin " Yes, I can simply corrupt the claw to get culling strike if I so felt necessary (I don't) so as to render that particular ascendancy: Culling on Crits useless. " That damage is minuscule. On enemies on full life especially bosses, you'll likely be hitting them with your first stack of BF, which only boosts your damage by 4000 on your very first hit. After that you won't benefit from the additional damage. Assuming the enemy is on low life, under the condition: Against bosses (30% resist) your effective DPS will still only be 847535.6 DPS, lower than the inquisitor version. " Now you can see it, you're welcome. TLDR: Inquisitor does more damage, title misleading? Perhaps, if you interpret it out of context from the stun immunity. Not so much however if you consider that I didn't specify what kind of dps it is (tooltip vs effective), because it is indeed the highest tooltip dps for its optimal gem links, not like non-inquisitor builds who have to rely on lightning penetration. The ball is in your court, I look forward to your reply. Edit: actually, even though I did not specify what kind of dps it is in the title, I did specify it in my very first sentence in the first post. You can check the last edited time on that post to see that it is before your post.
