Regarding the shock, yes the duration on every hit is really small, but my duration on icestorm is currently 4.78 seconds, which means that I can cast icestorm 13.7 times in that durations.
Which means we have 12.7 full duration icestorms running simultaneously, everyone hitting one shard per 0.1 seconds. which is 127 shards per second. If we have shocking conflux on, even if the window is low, we just need a window on 0.008 seconds before the next shard hit.
I have not yet been on shaper etc. but after my testing I will get back with more concrete facts.

Except that shock doesn't get applied at all if its duration is less than 0.3 seconds. The shaper of desolation is borderline useless for this build - you get burn from the ray, chill from the icestorm ground effect, and shock only works on trash mobs.

Hey I've been tinkering around with a build similar to this. (I like AoE nodes) I was wondering if you had thought of Cold to fire + avatar of fire in place of pyre. Freeing up that ring slot is pretty nice & cold to fire (especially 20% one) is pretty good. Let me know if you have any ideas on that. Maybe even having a perandus signet instead. (or if you're rich, the taming/ emberwake might be a good combo for single target damage) or maybe valyrium

Yea I thought a lot about CtF and AoF but I decided pyre was the easiest option (also because I didn't want to give any of my support gems up for it).

Valyrium : Great ring, especially if you are afraid of stuns, sadly a lot of -resistance. I would pref unwavering over valyrium.

The taming/emberwake : I havn't done the math on this, interesting combo, I will get back to you on that one. This would work great with shaper for the 100 % ignite procs for 6 seconds. You would have to give up pyre and go aof/ctf tho'.

Perandus signet : My build is running very few uniques (I have 2 atm (staff+pyre), definitly not worth it, unless you run astramentis, black sun helmet, perandus belt etc. etc.

If you do decide to test out taming/emberwake i would like to see it. I think if you stack up ignite chance nodes/jewels, you can get a ton of stacks in a short amount of time.
Just to make a little update since I decided to lvl it. Lvl 69, 8200 ES, 2 curses, buffed damage Ice storm close to 4000 and SR close to 3000. Merciless malachai and izaro were a joke, this is amazing.
I took one more endurance charge rather than skill point on merciless bandits, so I can use damage golems without any guilt.

I'm just a few points away from vaal pact and then I'm gonna go elemental damage nodes.. It can only get better.

I took the advice and removed doedre ring and went for the curse on the tree, bought a rare ring with +int and a chest piece with + int and got a huge dps boost as well as ES. Resists are capped without any trouble. awesome build, can't wait to get some higher lvl maps.

I went shaper of desolation, but can respec if it's general consensus that something else is better.

What gems to upgrade first? Being saving some gemcutters so I'm wondering, any advice?

EDIT: atziri down on lvl 73, hands down the best build I've played so far, at least for me.

Thanks for this build. I'm leveling it now, still early though. A couple of questions:

1. Why side with Kraitlyn in Normal? +10 to ele resists doesn't seem terribly useful versus a skillpoint.

2. I realize leveling is fairly fast, and I'll hit 33 soon but I just switched to the Scorching Ray + Ray Totem and it feels pretty slow to kill stuff (and don't talk to me about breaches!). Is there any way to juice the process (i.e., can I add gems or whatever to make it a little faster?).

Thanks again, really looking forward to getting the Whispering Ice and rocking it.

I used flame totem instead and was a little faster but that's how it is until 33, maybe reverberation rod plus firestorm? or something like that

EDIT: my guess is it's a lot easier to gear damage wise and ES wise late game if we have that +10 resists from kraytin. SInce you have to take care of Str and Dex requirements also.

You help Kraitlyn because all your preferred gear will have INT (which is a suffix so takes away a possible resist) and high ES- if you need to many resists on gear you will have to spend a lot of currency to make it work.

Don't be like me. I also thought "wut, kraitlyn, ill fix it with buying better gear then he has" - and took skillpoint. After many frustrations I respecced it back into resists on 80 or so... it makes life so much easier :P

As for leveling;
Any +X fire gems mace/lifesprig + firestorm does wonders. Firestorm is amazing for leveling - add a flame totem for single target and you're good to go. At 33 self cast Icestorm with a mana pot or two, at 38 you won the game!

Hey, just a quick question!

what would you say is the min. amount of leech for this build?
I ended up with the .6% life/mana leech enchant on boots, and since this leech is enough to cover no mana regen maps (I tested) - I wondered if I would be better:

-remove warlord's mark and put flammability in its place, add elemental weakness for dps or enfeeble/temp chains for surv in the cwdt setup.

Any reason not to?

PS. Yea, I'd kill for that stun enchant but since this is what it rolled... :P

It's a great trade of for more dps yes, but a huge loss for defenses, remember that warlords mark is our endurance charge generator for immortal call and just for phys reduction. It also increases the chance to stun enemies and their recovery speed.

Running Ele Weakness instead would make us do more damage and thus leech more despite lower leech %.
And IC works without any endurance charges as well, I get your point though, I will run an uber lab at some point and see if you can still facetank him without endurance charges.

And.. going with the defensive option (enfeeble) I have a feeling that would end up being a better mitigation tool then 3 endurance charges would give?

Ah, this build, much love. It has so many options!
I just want to point that this build can't be considered as cheap. Actually right now is pretty expensive in breach. Try to find any good gloves/boots/belt with +int and you will see that prices are really really high. They price start from 20c to 1ex and more. Of course I'm saying about linked items with right colors. It is really difficult to get 1k Intelligence without spending few exalts...

Of course this build is still good but there is really big difference between 700 Int and 1k Intelligence. It can be difficult to get some colors in ES gloves/boots and while we can use vorici to solve some of colors issue it does not solve all problems with expensive gear. Anyway changing color/links/number of sockets still cost(with bad RNG it cost you a lot :)).

Another question is how we can is AA/Discipline and Assasin's Mark at the same time without enlighten? It is not possible.

My current gear:

Well you are right to some extent. The build will be as strong just a little bit later in the game..
I had a good start 'cause I saved some currency and killed atziri on 73 lvl. Someone who didn't have that much currency at the start will kill her on lvl 80.. late game all items are affordable, it's only the transition to CI and transition to serious mapping that can be a little harder. but all items are currently overpriced so every build is a little bit expensive.

In the end- those without currency will just have to farm a bit more to compensate gear stats with vaal pact and tree elemental damage, but it's all doable.

Question...obviously this build is really good for boss killing. However, how is it for map clearing and clearspeed? Given that you have to stand still to cast, and I feel like with CE the radius on icestorm is pretty...small.

Any tips/advice/thoughts?

In my honest opinion the clear speed is fine, not A tier splendid, but fine. If you look at my xoph run, you can see it's pretty easy clearing. (The bazaar run is slow, considering I was tired as hell and watching series meanwhile).
If you feel like the radius is small just swap conc out for increased aoe at trash.
