@GGG - Could someone explain why Mjolner is having its cooldown increased? [new 2.6 changes :P]
So here's an image with the item being 'buffed' in 2.6. It's getting a 100% increased spell damage modifier for triggered lightning spells. (Note that it's not 100% MORE but 100% Increased). IMO this alone is not enough to make the item good again at all. Without changes to the ICD the item will still be trash. Increasing the ICD from 0.1s to 0.25s in 2.5 reduced the general damage output and healing of Mjolner builds by 60%, and 100% increased spell damage isn't going to make the item worth playing again without the ICD being brought down again. Anyways, just thought I'd share my thoughts since they say they're improving the item. It's still not going to be used in 2.6 even with this buff. Theorycrafter/Build Creator for PORTAL guild

Mjolner will not be playable with this buff. Ran the numbers on my Rainbownuke Low Life build (which is about the max DPS Mjolner build you can make) - it amounts to about a 25% damage buff to the build.
That doesn't even come close to making up for the 60% damage nerf with the cooldown change. And of course there was also the 35% nerf to discharge. The item has been completely gutted and this is a bandaid fix which won't do anything. WTF GGG? Damage was never a problem. The internal cooldown which effects sustain is what the major issue is with current mjolner iteration.
Even in Kingsguard builds, the expulsion of endurance charges to give the "life per charge" function of KG is not enough. At the end of the day, Discharge is triggered at melee range (be it from cyclone, molten strike, or any other skill). The sustain needs to be a bit better for these triggers to even be possible. At a minimum, Cospri's malice and Mjolner should share the same internal cooldown. | |
" Cospri's still works with a 0.25s CD though. People still played it after the 2.5 changes. It can scale crit multi and use EE and have high numbers of charges per use. Mjolner on the other hand needs to vomit spells to be effective. There's a big difference between the two, and I think it would be fine for them to have different CDs (say 0.1s for mjolner and 0.25s for cospri's) for the above reason. " I don't know what you're smoking, but damage is a huge problem right now. AoE clear is still OK-ish since Arc is so insane, but you have no real single target damage at all right now. It's like a tier-3 or even worse build for single target damage. Both mjolner and cospri's have a 0.25s CD ATM dude.
Cospri's still works fine. Mjolner does not. Theorycrafter/Build Creator for PORTAL guild

" This is correct. Not sure what prisus was talking about. And of course this cool down is the reason damage is a problem. Also, I have seen a lot of people acting like Mjolner used to be a broken as fuck item that needed nerfing, and that tells me that one or both of the following are true for those people: 1) They never played a mjolner build 2) They never played a T1 meta build Mjolner was a top tier build only very briefly during 2.2 and even then only in standard with a legacy one. And let's be honest here: the xbox one release is what killed Mjolner. I guarantee you that the garbage hardware of the xbone is why mjolner has a 250ms cooldown. I agree with you tackle70.
Mjolner was only 'broken' when: 1. Mjolner had no internal CD AND 2. You could trigger more than one of the same gem per trigger event AND 3. Juggernaut gained max endurance charges every time he gained a single charge, all the time. AND 4. You had all four (4) required uniques (Mjolner, Romira's, Volls, Kingsguard). Remove any one of those four things from the equation and the build was fair. Removing more than one and you push the build into a very weak area. They removed 2 and 3 pretty quickly and 1 followed shortly. In 2.4 Mjolner (the 0.1s CD version with 100% proc rate) was workable but you pretty much had to have a Voll's. This killed the budget Voll-less build that I made that a lot of people enjoyed. We all already know what 2.5 did to Mjolner. While Qarl did say it was changed for performance reasons, there are things in the game right now that cause more performance issues than the 2.4 Mjolner did. (Firestorm, I'm looking at you, for starters). If this change in 2.6 comes with a CD reversion to 0.1s then I will again take up the Hammer. But if not GGG is going to be disappointed that their 'buff' didn't help the item (cause it doesn't enough to make it playable). Theorycrafter/Build Creator for PORTAL guild

Patch notes out confirming no other helps to the item. Mjolner confirmed permanently dead. RIP.
Thanks, Xbox One. :( The 352nd character to hit Level 100 in Standard
