That's the reason I said I'll go str8 to the meta this league... Game is forcing us to.
I miss the time that we got to choose our builds. XD

Ummm...have you read the stories they linked? Chris pretty much admitted that this league was inspired by Rampage (NOT Beyond, Perandus or Talisman like some others are suggesting), BUT with adjustments to make it feel better.

I will be honest with you, and I mean no disrespect, but: The more often I stumble across your comments, the less inclined I am to read them for some reason.

OK, so this league is rampage inspired... Does that make the concerns I have any less valid? I don't think so.

And one of the crucial adjustments is direct response to your concerns - that Breaches will only stay open for a maximum of 1 minute i.e. you can only extend them for so long, no longer. Similarly with bosses, you only need enough clearspeed to be able to reach them - reaching them even sooner confers no additional benefits.

OK, so what you say is that a cookie-cutter build can get to that one minute margin faster, and engage the boss earlier as a result. Validates my point beautifully. Thanks.

So yes, you'll need to have a decent speed but the league doesn't incentivize simply increasing ad infinitum. Basically, they weren't happy with Rampage (and neither were most players) and so they're trying to see if there's a better way of rewarding that idea. Another change they've made is to space the fights out (every 10-15 mins apparently) rather than having them always on. In the gameplay videos they've shown, it didn't seem all that hard to keep up with the breach, but we'll see.

Fact of the matter is and was: Faster clearing builds will be at an advantage regardless.

And btw, I plan to play a Scorching Ray build to start off this new league, which is hardly a max-clearspeed skill. If plebs want to abuse broken shit like Blade Flurry, go right ahead.

"Plays bladeflurry = pleb" you really know how to make friends, let me tell you...

And yet you still do. Just don't read it, then. No one's asking you to. They're on a public forum and, as much as it might surprise you to realize this, might actually be for other people rather than just you (which is why I also responded to stuff which other people have said here rather than only your comment).

So do they make them any less valid? No more valid than, say, changing the recipe on a pizza merits criticism because it's still a pizza.

As for cookie-cutter builds being able to get to the boss faster, sure. So what? My point is that the league isn't forcing you to go fast (or, at least, not faster than a certain threshold). If you choose to do so, fine. Nothing wrong with that.

Faster clearing builds will be at an advantage no matter what they do. Faster clearing builds would be at an advantage in any ARPG cos faster clear means you're conquering the game's content more effectively than anyone else. That has nothing to do with this league's mechanics. Even if they added something that had no tie-in with speed whatsoever, faster clearing builds would still be at an advantage simply by being able to run more zones than anyone else in a given amount of time. The only league I know of that might have penalised rapid-clear builds (somewhat - depending on if you handle them it might even have been a bonus) was Beyond since if you wanted to avoid the Beyond mobs, you had to space monsters out more. And Beyond didn't go down well with players.

As for making friends, I believe I'm not the only one who's disagreeing with you here. See below your response to me. As that guy (and the other guy who's agreed with him) says, people are free to play as they wish to. Regarding Blade Flurry, there's plenty of threads mentioning how it's unbalanced. But, of course, you're also free to use it if you wish. Just know that as you judge, so shall you be judged. I don't think that bothers you much, though.

This is perfect! Really like the cloak.
What can change the nature of a man?
"Tears in the fabric of reality have formed throughout Wraeclast. Engage them to expose an alternate realm and reveal those who dwell there. Slay monsters inside the Breach to keep it open long enough to reap your bounty."

I just watched the video of GameSpot. I probably didn't get the idea behind breaches and this 'bounty' thing but for me it looks like those guys diddn't get any revard as they killed mobs much too slow?
1 word - HYPE!
Looks great GGG Thank you!

Ignore the entitled generations rants. No other game pumps out this much content so fast! And its free!

Sure there are always things that can be done different and old things that need polish but you are constantly pumping out something for us and some of us are greatful!
Looks very interesting. Especially new items.
I want that bow.

Why are you always so concerned with how other people play the game, why dont you just play the game the way you like and have fun?

In general this is a hollow argument to make in a multiplayer environment, where all builds go through the same content, need to do the same challenges, share the same economy etc.

Am I forced to play the meta, as if somebody pointed a gun at me? No, of course not.

Do I get rewarded in any way shape or form for not playing the meta? No, unfortunately not. On the contrary, I get punished with significantly slower progression, less items, and less currency.

I have a rather competitive mindset, don't let my 35 challenges fool you. Can I compete against a PF-BV with a life-based 2h RT melee build? Well, no...

I would love to be able to compete with such a 2h-melee build. The day such a build would work even remotely on a competitive level is the day that I would post a picture of myself crying happy tears. Not that it'll ever happen, but I really would, and I'm not ugly, believe it or not.

Since POE has become too much a game of knowledge than it is a game of skill, the only incentive for me to play at all is to play competitively, if I want to stick around. The game doesn't challenge me, I need other players for that. Then there's the problem that I could, theoretically, make it harder for myself by playing a build that doesn't scale "properly", but the result would be a hard-cap for such a build at a certain map tier, or a certain boss. The guardian immunities have made things worse.

I do not have this "Fuck what the others play attitude" in me. I can't do it, that's not me. I want to compete, and get pushed, and grow in a friendly competitive environment. I don't want to have to pick from such a small set of builds anymore. The game in and off itself is repetitive enough already. Does this make any sense to you?

So what choice do I really have? For me it's down to playing a build that can compete with bladevortex in some way shape or form, or it's goodbye POE. What would you do in such a situation?

What do you think happens, when I see that GGG caters to these builds, enforcing the meta even more than they already have, by creating these league mechanics?

I don't want the discrepancy between the meta and the rest of the builds to be so huge. I don't expect 100% perfect balance, I think nobody does, but 70% would be nice you know?

I like this game a lot, I really do. And it's so sad to be confronted with the poor state of this game everytime I start a new league on the character selection screen... It almost hurts physically at this point, which isn't too unusual for women, I suppose.

I could accept having a shallow league or two, if GGG worked on rebalancing this game. To me it seems all they do is new content. What about the countless loose ends this game has? It's nice to have new content frequently. Sure it keeps GGG alive, but if new content, QoL and engine improvements are the only things they ever do, this game will become a patchwork of outdated skills, nodes, and mechanics. I am not saying people at GGG are lazy, mind you. What do you think is going to happen then? You can't live on hype alone in the long run, at some point the mistakes and oversights will catch up, such is the way of things...
