Why is Tempest Shield infinitely better then Riposte/Reckoning
Seriously its baffling how this balance came into play....
Spell casters(with BLOCK) Get to use this ridiculous setup of molten shell + tempest shield Both scale with spell damage/ elemental damage/ etc and have plenty of supports that can give it insane dps Less Duration(damage multiplier) / Elemental Focus(damage multiplier)/ Controlled Destruction(damage multiplier)/ You can easily pop this up, even without crit, to have over 10,000 on the tooltip dps Tempest shield has NO COOLDOWN AND CHAINS TO MOB!! (Damage on Blocking: This spell will damage the attacker whenever you successfully block any direct attack or spell) It can hit 2 Mobs per Block If you run into a pack and block 50 Attacks/Spells you will dish out 10,000x50x2 Damage = 1 Million Damage By running in you can destroy packs of mob while still being able to cast incinerate or whatever spells you want......... And you wont stun them making them no longer hit you... ![]() Then you have the melee side Melee block builds can run Reckoning/Riposte And if you arent using Facebreakers you can also run Vengeance Support Gems for Melee Are SHIT compared to the caster block builds.... Melee Physical Damage is the only multiplier we get... other then that, we can use damage conversion and only wed if we are not using facebreakers... but most block melee builds run facebreakers..... Support Gems = Melee Phys(the only multiplier)/ Phys to Lightning / Added Fire / You arent going to run concentrated effect because it only works on reckoning and ruins your aoe/clear Lets say you also get 10,000 on the tooltip dps.... Cooldown Time: 0.40 sec - Reckoning Cooldown Time: 0.80 sec - Riposte - wat the fk is this cooldown.... Lets say you also get hit 50 times within 2 seconds 5 Hits of Reckoning MAX regardless of how many hits apply... and if the hits apply at the same time you might have even less reckoning proq's.... 5x10,000x (lets say you hit 5 mob) = 250,000 Riposte hits 3 times max (probably only or twice) 3x10,000x(1 Mob Unless ur melee splash) = 30,000 1,000,000(chaining damage which auto aims and has huge range) Vs 280,000 (most likely not going to proq this many hits and might not even hit any mobs depending on aoe and if your point blank for riposte....) Also keep in mind melee builds usually stun enemies making them not hit as much, and if the hits occur at the same time..... then more likely dps is under 100,000 ![]() How can you call this balanced... seriously.... please explain to me why does tempest shield and spell casters get all these juicy buffs and nice damage while maintaining the EXACT SAME amount of defense.... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX THE MELEE TRIGGER GEMS PLEASE I BEG OF YOU.... Last edited by Bloomania#2606 on Sep 7, 2016, 12:45:36 AM Last bumped on Sep 9, 2016, 6:01:59 AM

Please someone explain how this is balanced... explain why the phys versions of tempest shield deserve to be so shit in comparison...

" I would use Vengeance, Riposte or Reckoning over Tempest Shield any day of the week. The prior requires nothing else to auto trigger it, the latter requires something to trigger it, like Cast When Damage Taken. Or do you assume that having to cast Tempest Shield is somehow the same as Vengeance automatically working? |

While I get you (Tempest shield is love <3), meele triggers have different use because they have AOE. In damage aspect they might be inferior because of cooldown (not sure though) but they excel at utility (curse on hit, life gain on hit, blind, end charge on stun etc)

" Tempest shield has the exact same utility available - life leech - blind - innervate - curse on hit etc Melee triggers have small aoes without scaling it and if hit by a ranged mob your triggers dont do anything Melee triggers have big cooldowns and lots of restrictions Tempest shield gives extra block/ no cooldown/ resets itself on block Tempest shield chains guarnteed to 2 mob per hit latching on to every mob Melee Triggers can be avoided by enemy mob that are out of range Tempest shield has no cd to spam its damage Melee triggers have big cd Tempest shield is infinitely better and its sad |

" What are you talking about Both require blocks to trigger Yet 1 has no cooldown, resets itself on block so it might as well be as autonomous/ auto trigger Tempest shield also gives extra block and chains meaning the mob cant dodge or avoid the aoe of the trigger You dont have experience in this at all so idk why ur trying to prove me wrong Tempest shield is not like cast when damage taken at all "Enchants your shield with the power of storms, which lashes out to deal arcing lightning damage to attackers when you block them. Blocking refreshes the duration of Tempest Shield." http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Tempest_Shield Please learn the game, then respond to the feedback |

" A melee character cannot kill monsters at range without normal melee skills, so unfair ! But seriously, reckoning is just stronger than tempest shield .... Damage scales from the weapon ( if weapon ), and all the other passives on the tree, making it ( as an AOE skill ) deal more damage. The only thing that makes reckoning really less reliable is ... the fact that it can miss. If you are being hit 50 times within 2 seconds and all those ennemies are still alive btw ... you might be doing something wrong. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading. Last edited by Fruz#6137 on Sep 7, 2016, 6:40:10 AM

" Once again, you need to cast Tempest Shield. Tempest Shield is not a trigger gem, what part of that do you not get? You can turn it into a trigger by slotting it with Cast When Damage Taken. For example Cast When Damage Taken - Tempest Shield - Molten Shell - Immortal Call for some defense. Once Tempest Shield is active, when you block, it can do its effects and it will also refresh the 12 second timer on it. If you do not block within 12 seconds, the Tempest Shield goes off again and you will need to recast it. I am simply telling you the facts and how Tempest Shield differs from Trigger gems like Vengeance, Riposte, and Reckoning. |

Also if I'm not mistaking, tempest shield is a buff and will be completely canceled by nullifier mobs.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

Tempest shield requires casting. This means it requires player time, active monitoring, and a hotkey slot, or, you need to use it with trigger gems making its damage worse, and less reliable. Vengeance doesn't require casting.
Tempest Shield requires a shield. Vengeance doesn't. Temepst Shield requires you to block before it will activate. Vengeance doesn't. Tempest shield doesn't hit in an AoE around you. Vengeance does. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:
