New maps only dropping when running an adjacent map really, really sucks

could you clarify what is 'gated'? maps (as in any map of given tier) or selected maps?

because if it is the first one then i have to disagree. maps are droping like crazy for me. if you however complain about not being able to play the map you want.. then sure, current system forces us to play a lot of different maps to get somewhere. and i think it is very deliberatw

his entire point is it isn't "a lot of different maps" but instead "a lot of the same maps you have already opened while more than a half of that tier of maps just doesn't drop because atlas mechanics"
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
I have a similar issue. Would want to progress in the right bottom corner, but the Sewer map simply doesn't drop. I've run all my Ghettos & tiered up all the Arcades. Looting other types of T3 doesnt help me.

Ofc, I could skip all this nonsense and just buy the map. -_-

Right. I would absolutely love to play "a lot of different maps." That's how I play POE. I'm not some min/max player who gets to 100 exclusively running Gorge. I run every map that doesn't have a cancerously bad layout like the old Tunnel. Hell, I even ran Tunnel once last week just for old time's sake. The variety of maps is what keeps me playing POE.

I just can't do that with the Atlas. Every aspect of it is designed to stop me from running "a lot of different maps."

I ran a ton of Acid Lakes and never had a Pit drop. I ran three more Oasis maps between posting my Atlas earlier and uninstalling and never had either map it branches to drop. I've been running maps to try to expand my Atlas until the maps ran out, and was met with failure almost every single time. At that point it's back to grinding the same small pool of maps I've been grinding for ten hours.

I'm missing well over half the content I'm appropriately leveled for at this point in the game, and that's with a particularly shitty build that's not pushing. Not being able to play anything except one tiny portion of the game sucks.
Its been less than 3 days guys. So in 3 days you did normal, cruel, merciless, and what a fifth or so of the atlas. Why isn't this good enough? The maps will drop eventually, I don't see why everyone thinks they need to blow through the content so fast.

The Scion I was playing is level 81. There are multiple tier 3 maps I don't have access to. Those are level 70 zones. Rushing through content and wanting to play content while it's still level appropriate are not equivalent things. This is especially true when, in order to unlock some of these low tier maps, I need to grind even lower level content.

Wanting to play tier 3 maps before I'm so far overleveled that they don't even move my experience bar is not unreasonable.
btw, I also hear that items called a "sextant" can now drop in game? They are apparently related to mapping or something..

Are these rumors true?

You're missing the point.

Atlas was an endgame expansion ENTIRELY dedicated to endgame mapping.

So what were the vast majority of people complaining about when it comes to endgame mapping? By far the most common complaint I saw in these forums was from solo players not getting enough map drops to progress into higher maps. As an example of this I myself am a solo player, and after HC Prophecy I had gotten several characters into mid-high eighties, one died at 89 just before dinging 90 in a lab cancer trial. I never got a single gorge THAT ENTIRE SEASON. I don't even know what gorge looks like because after nearly reaching level 90 I still hadn't seen one.

So now ask yourself if this expansion fixes that issue? Not really, I mean its cool but since maps can only drop from adjacent nodes it is actually MORE restrictive than it ever was in the old system. This is exactly the OPPOSITE of what they should be doing, and god forbid you want to go to a new area of the atlas because the mapping system is now even more restrictive in how you would get those.

TBH it's just another example of "Hey guys, we dedicated this whole update to fixing this problem... what? What do you mean the problem is worse? We just fixed it" type of stuff that we see from GGG all the time.

I can only imagine what the "melee fix" is going to look like when that someday comes out.
my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes

Bug Fixes:
People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. Also, we went ahead and made cyclone great for CoC casters while we were at it.

So there's a new update that doesn't fix the problem. Good work, GGG. Nailed it.

I play solo too, but all I see is people complaining about not being into high maps after a grand total of 3 days. Maybe its not meant to be fast? Even if they made it really fast to reach high maps people would just complain about being out of new content to run.
I don't mind that its not that fast, but i really miss the variety. After grinding sewers and vaal temple for a day i can't see them anymore...
