Race Event Season One announced!

Not bad. 1 am and 1 pm race times are okay with me in Asia.

My Two Cents :

I'm probably the exception ,but I find this whole race system rather unnapealing.

Never was one for rushing anyway, so a mode that glorifies skipping content, imho, hurts the game in the long run. You're basically training your fanbase to be uber-efficient at skipping everything the game has to offer, which drills into the collective mindset that what's important is not the enjoyment of questing and discovery, but rushing to endgame content/to as fast as you can for prises. Why even build a decent game if all you ever do in it is rush it the to point of no return ? [...]

You miss the point.
This whole game is about optimization. All the HnS games are. You create characters, try builds and skills and try to achieve a perfect character (to your taste obviously).
Which means a lot of trial and error and remaking characters, hence making your statement completely false. Training people to skip content so they can make new characters faster means they can try more things and be less bored by re-doing the same content over and over (especially on the first/lower levels)...

I'm definitely someone who would like to see the orbs come back. I am a working father who has played this game for over a year now. I got in to the races to see how high i could get and didn't do too badly some of the time, but I lack the time available to make races even remotely worthwhile now...

So sadly I won't be playing them anymore, which was a shame cos i used to wake up early just to make the races on the weekends (they were one of my favourite things). But I will definitely be sticking to putting what time I have into my existing characters.

I am a very sad panda.

WOW

O_O
really good job!!
italians do it better :)
It looks fantastic but I got one question:

Will you disable trading option in solo races to make it fair for everybody? It was discussed during closed beta that players with helping friends had tremendous advantage over the rest.

Edit: Nevermind, I just read the 0.10.1c changes list. :)

Very nice :)
Hype level: maximum.
I like the unique artwork, the seasonal aspect, the reward points system and the new demigod item for 1st in class, addition of the catacombs 1st clear prize. I dont like the lack of currency rewards. Players with minimal chance of ever making 1st in class used to have incentive to race; this new system removes the incentive, and i think its going to result in much less participation as a result. Youve also previously admitted that the default main and hardcore main leagues will be saturated with wealth after a certain timeframe (within limits regarding hardcore, but nevertheless) so why the concern about races causing orb inflation now?

I think itd be better to have all orbs (aside from mirrors) be purchasable with reward points, but with the cost rising exponentially as the orb rarity increases- this prevents the sort of burst orb saturations that could mess up the economy under the old random reward system while still keeping incentive for casual or average players to participate for survival thresholds or a lucky 1st kill/clear.

A few other suggestions and requests:

- Remove the 1st hillock kill reward. It overwhelmingly favors shadows (pretty sure they have a 99%+ 1st kill rate in cb races) and is a complete hit/crit diceroll as to which shadow actually gets the 1st kill, with next to no skill or thought involved on the players part. Replace it with 1st brutus, 1st merveil, 1st oversoul and 1st piety kills instead.

- Change top 20 death notifications to display with global/trade chat disabled and /dnd activated. This is useful information for top racers, yet theyre generally forced to go without since it currently requires enduring a sea of screen-obscuring spam to see it.

- Add an option for parties to disable the loot timer during races. Have it either be under the control of the party leader or require unanimous decision to disable. The timer breaks flow, acts as a useless timesink and feels out of place in a cooperative party- what was originally meant to be a boon for casual players becomes a bane for a focused group.

See you all at the races!
