actually those elemental damage jewels are not that op as many of players think so.
Let me explain. rare jewels can have 3 different mods- cast speed, crit multi and spell damage, this means that rare jewels results in cubic damage function; and this spectrum jewel has square function, even thou they have surprisingly similar damage increases at any higher number of jewels. Here is a chart of damage progresion- blue line shows damage increase with rare jewels with 6% cast speed, 15% crit multi, 15% increased damage. (considering crit chance is 100%) and red line shows damage increase using spectrum jewels. Although, spectrum jewels gives damage increase only in one dimensional mod (elemental damage increase) which means it's easier to scale damage in skill tree and gear with other mods like cast speed and crit multi which will result in more damage than using rare ones, unless the rare jewels would have fourth mod which is really expensive. I think spectrum jewels are a little too strong but not that much, because surpassing spectrum jewels comes with a great cost- need to crit cap and to get expensive jewels. Spectrum jewels on other hand offers similar amount of damage regardless of crit chance and allows to scale damage even better via skill tree and gear. So these are all-or-nothing "set items" with exponential scaling for which you sacrifice passive points to make worthwhile. This seems like pretty bad game design to me to be honest :(

" Except that with these jewels you don't have to go the crit way. The cast speed is also not a good exemple as there are a lot of ways to bypass it(proc/coc etc). When you reach 1300% + ele damage, the cast speed doesn't really matter for mapping as everything will die in 1 hit, without the need to crit, or even cast in the first place if you go self RF. Having so much damage in the tree is insane as all the free points will be pure def, so as the gear. Maker of ZeeL's Amplifier.

Maybe is somthink good indeed after long time but for sure gone be nef. again ..typical GGG stile!

wow, no physical damage jewels? melee gets screwed again!!! No reason to play melee ever now.
Also, it seems like scion is worth something again with these jewels. |
