It´s a great idea. Everyone should support this instead of complaining!

I would say no "codex" but what about new master? And yeah .. he would collect even more recipes in the future (not just enchants from lab) !

So they can justify how popular it is and so they can gate more things behind boring content like the Lab.

Why gate points on something that is suppose to be optional then gate it behind what they call "END-GAME LAB"? It does not make sense unless they are trying to pad their numbers along with their egos.

This would just drop the value of enchants to nothing because the community would just need a few people running the lab and selling enchants just like master crafting.

I do agree it's too much of a chore to self-enchant stuff at the moment. The only way I see that idea working is if, at least, the "book/codex" forgets the enchant when applied. Basically consumables enchants like the prophecies will be.
Posting to say: fuck the lab and everything it stands for. Put it as an optional content like it should be instead of jerking it off out of hubris.
More labyrinth is the least of what I am looking forward to in prophecy to be honest.

Ascendancy IS the lab.
Ascendancy IS optional.

It's like saying "Why do I have to kill Piety to get 2 passive points. Just give them to me when I create a new character. All this pointing and clicking is too hard."
Labyrinth areas/concept, although there is huge work behind, is the most boring expansion/improvement PoE ever had and I hope it allways remain optional so I will not miss relevant content by not entering these areas repeatedly. I only appreciate ascendancy classes as an even more bigger build diversity.

What´s the difference from other services (mirror service, crafting, paying for rush, paying for temp league´s challanges etc)
On the other hand people still lvling their masters each temp league.
