LOL so people in your party can steal your loot?

I could swear when a legendary dropped yesterday the guy with the shadow who was faster than my maurauder rushed and stole the item.

I however believe there is something I am not understanding because I don't think any sensible person would make a multi player game where others can steal your loot. Surely it was just a bug as any reasonable and sensible developer would make sure each person gets their own loot otherwise nobody would care to play multi player.

Whether this can happen is based on your party's loot allocation settings. The default mode is short allocation - when desirable items drop, only one player (chosen at random) is allowed to pick them up for a few seconds, then they become available to pick up for everyone in the party. There is also permanent allocation, or free for all. As party leader you can change the loot allocation setting from the party screen, and you can also set your default in UI options.

(Random side note: GGG really like free for all, since they feel like stealing loot is part of the fun of this sort of game. The other modes exist because many players don't share that view.)

excellent explanation, though admittedly I thought the OP's post was just bait. There is the full inventory thing too if I recall correctly.

I see ok thanks well what I do is I click on the notice board and just join any party I will have to have a closer look at what I am joining next time.

I don't see the point of rushing to be the first to steal though, that sounds dumb. A guy picks a shadow and dashes the fastest to steal and trolling everyone? especially when he did the least amount of work? Will be sure to get my own loot setting next time.

Yet another post of yours full of inexperience. It could also be his inventory was full and he tried to pick it up. Or someone else did, it will then become available for the whole party.

P.s i don't even know why i bother with folks like you.

It's not stealing. Unallocated loot belongs to whoever picks it up.

I played for like 3 year and share pretty much the same opinion.
I assume the OP had short alloc, which is on by default, and many new players don't know about this. I don't think I ever created a single party with Perm Alloc not enabled, after it was brought to the game.

Until permanent allocation was implemented playing in parties was really bad, since most of the time you had to ignore enemies and just madly dash for any loot before allocation period ends and someone else picks it up, even if it meant getting into potentially dangerous situations.
It was especially bad for ranged, since you are further away from enemies and by the time you get to the loot melees already pick it up.

I suspect this was one of the reasons why I haven't found a single exalt in like the first year.

Sounded like OP actually tried to play the game for the first time yesterday. Keep it up.

party had Fee for all or limited duration allocation , option turned op.

You can check what drop option is on bottom of party menu ("S" -> party tab)

and in party board:
red - free for all
yellow- limited duration allocation
geren - permanent allocation
