Lab is boring

I am perfectly capable of comprehension, no worries. I can see that some people don't like the lab, no problem there. All I am saying is that judging content when you are severely overleveled is just not really possible. I could run my level 90 character to all of Cruel and would find ALL of it boring. There is nothing interesting if it is just walking around. It is about as interesting as backtracking from the end of a Gorge to the beginning to get the master to give you credit, because it offers about the same challenge.

BTW I find the lab very interesting and challenging when done at the right level, and boring once I am severely overleveled. I just wish the normal mobs would be harder (at the time when you can safely kill Izaro, the trash is completely meaningless) and that there was a higher level (75-80) version of it, to keep my characters challenged.

Thank you for the correction.

PoE used to be my favorite game to play. I play other games now because trap game play ruined PoE for me. Before someone jumps in and tries to falsely claim Ascendancy points are optional, yes I still occasionally play master dailies and occasional maps. Yes the game is the same wonderful fun game it used to be ignoring the Labyrinth, at least when focused myopically. But, ascendancy points are really not optional. There can't be any new character development planning or longer range goal planning without including ascendancy points. Ascendancy points are now part of core character development, a very important part. Since I refuse to play content that feels like a different game, a game that is boring tedious and not fun to me, there is no long range relationship possible with PoE unless ascendancy points are made available without involving trap game play.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

Well anything that is super easy will obviously be super boring. Do it at level 33 and it will be more interesting...?

Try doing act4 normal at level 70, it will be super boring as well. What I am saying is, it is obviously pretty useless to judge level 33 content when you are running it at level 68. Or can you tell me any sub-level-40 content in this game that you would actually like to do at level 68+? I certainly can't.

You and the rest of the white knights are very good at doing this; missing the point.

The point is: the gameplay itself, with all the hoppy-hoppy jump-jump and backtracking for golden keys, is EXTREMELY TEDIOUS AND BORING. the gameplay. Not the combat, not the difficulty, it's the backtracking and warping around clumsily-contrived trap puzzles that makes the lab stupid and unnecessary. Oh, except for the fact that they locked essential character progression behind it. That's the ONLY reason 90-95% of people ever set foot in there. go ahead and check the numbers on the poll.

Yes, I'll eat the shit sandwich to get the gold medal inside, but once i've got it, I'm not eating another shit sandwich.

EVER.

They don't know what hiding is... they don't know what dodging is... they are morons.
Besides the fact that I am not a "white knight", you are missing my point: Try it at appropriate level if you want to judge it.

Besides, I like the lab and it has increased my retention with the game. It would increase my retention a lot more if there was a level 80 version of it.

BTW, I have no idea what you guys are doing such that you need to do a lot of backtracking.

Encounter locked door.

Hop/pot/whirl through the crap you've just finished coming through in order to find the area that has the key for said door. Hop/pot/whirl back through all of the same crap a third time to use the key on the door.

That is backtracking. If you've ever been in the lab, you've backtracked OR you don't have a clear understanding of what backtracking is.

That counts as a lot? I mean, it's not the best designed backtracking I've seen in a game (being the best current iteration by games like Metroid) but it's far from crappy, compared to, let's say, old corrupted areas. It can be adjusted to better, but not that much.

How many locked doors have you encountered in your collective visits to the lab? Only one? Two? Hundreds?

Repetitive interesting things in games are fun. Repetitive boring and tedious things, not so much.

Encounter locked door.

Move up or to the left depending on where the door is for about one screen.

Run in a circle to get the golden key (no backtracking there, or, depending on the layout, half a screen of space you run twice in the same direction).

Go back through the door.

Move one screen down / to the right back to where the door was.

Total backtracking: 1 area change, 1 screen sometimes filled with traps which you can pretty much ignore. The average non-Gorge/Plateau map has more backtracking than that.

I mean, seriously? This is what you are complaining about?

You just dislike the lab and try to find arguments for your dislike. You don't have to. It is fine to just dislike something because you dislike it. Just don't expect everyone to feel the same as you do.

I've done that. It's horrendously and hatefully boring, tedious, and annoying, and if you do it at area level, you get to deal with a boss who can one-shot you if you make a single mistake, depending on your build. Even if you're a fairly defense-heavy caster, Izaro can oneshot you at level 68. That is, IF YOU ARE GEARED AS A CASTER.

Oh, I don't know... EVERY ITERATION THAT HAS GOLDEN DOORS MAYBE???

You might as well give up on these people. They have to dramatize every single thing. God forbid they have to do anything other than run in a straight line.
Are you mad bro.
