Love the game. Loathe the lab.
The idea that the lab is "optional endgame" baffles me when the ascendancy points are behind it.
The regular trials make me feel like I am playing Zelda while the uber trials.... Maybe we should put every level-up skill-point behind RNG gates just for fun.. Level up twice with one mob pack and then not again for 1000 maps.. Played hundreds of maps last league to still come one trial short of uber-lab (which I didn't want to actually play, but if it was available to me I would have to get the points and the challenge).
I will frequently play an entire act at a time clearing all of the area/side areas, but if I had to clear the whole act and kill the boss without ever leaving/dying I would frankly never play this game (and it is my favorite game). I get that it is partially mental/psychological on my part, but for a game with so much customization/choice it just feels...wrong.
At least let me save my progress... I feel compelled to clear every area/mob/chest/rock as I play this game, but when I do have to play lab for ascendancy I rush through start to finish and hate how long it took.
Set them free or rework.

Not gunna happen anytime soon. Most people are ok with the lab, and the devs have already stated that they don't care if some people don't like it. On the plus side for the crusaders, though, they did mention that they might make the lower level iterations shorter.
