[2.3] King's "Close Stalker" - Blast Rain + Puncture Trap + 50/25 Block [HC and Atziri deathless]
" Isn't blast rain dmg "gimpped" compared to shrapnel since chin sol and point blank won't work? I at least thought the point blank distance is calculated from player to AoE center with blast rain? or are you just casting it next really close to you? Dunno, I tried it myself and it felt so slow and weak compared to shrapnel, maybe I'll give it another shot today. I 1-2 shot all but rares anyway so it feels like the time the volley of blast rain hits I could've killed the pack already and moved on.. I'm currently sitting at 6,7k tooltip dps with PPD+WED+Added fire+shrapnel 4link after I made the switch from inc Aoe to WED to try out and the increased damage output making rares/bosses easier to kill seemed like a good trade off from faster trash clear from bigger AoE. Also the Bigger single shot damage -> Bigger HoA burns -> Trash AoE didn't seem to change drastically. I have been trying to find a replacement for siege ballista with little success, I have it now linked with GMP+FA+PPD and if I see a dangerous looking pack or boss I just cast it inside the enemy pack to acts as "soft taunt" before I go in for the kill. I'll try Blood rage today as well to up my life leech and for extra deeps from frenzy charges. I haven't gone BR yet because I REALLY don't want to lose any HP regen, but at 400hp/sec I guess I can afford to try it :P Last edited by ciryous#1654 on Dec 16, 2015, 8:10:04 AM

I made a quick video of build in action, so make sure you check it out! My gear was really basic, but the clear speed is just ... wow. I simply can't die for now and i'm running thru maps (tier 2-3 @lvl70) like crazy!
I 'cast' Blast rain on top of myself or somewhere near to maximize Point blank effect. It not only does bigger damage when it's cast that way, but it also knockbacks enemies when hit, so almost no melee mobs can't touch you! I really love this build, and I've been playing poe for over 2 years, tried almost everything :) |

" Video looked good, but I feel like my clear speed was still better with shrapnel, maybe it's the dmg boost from drillneck making the difference? It gives almost 1/3 more dps to me compared to hyrri's (from 4k smth -> 6k smth) Both skills seem to work great though so I'd say it's mostly matter of preference :) Maybe I'll try to make a video later today to show my gameplay a little to show comparison. Drillneck surely adds massive amount of damage to Shrapnel, perfect for bosses and narrow hallways. I use Blast rain when i need bigger aoe to clear more trash mobs.

I died at level 83 with a crit ranger version of this build. What I learned was that do not use shrapnel shot + physical to lightning unless you have leech + Vaal pact. I one shot myself in a sea witch beyond map. Also for the record shrapnel has way better single target whereas blast rain has more versitility. Shrapnel is great for linear / close quarters maps and blast rain is great for all maps. Basically I would have survived if I didn't care about tool tip but I was trying a pure ele blast rain and remembered I had a shrapnel shot leveling in my off hand, which led to me to trying it in a sea witch beyond map. The version I'm doing now is the same without phys to lightning and instead of blasphemy+ass mark on going to use pcoc and Arctic armour--which synergies with blast rain so well. Will post my stuff soon, I'm on my iPhone lol.

" Thank's for the feedback, great to hear some info on crit version since i haven't tried it yet. I would suggest you to try a non crit version this time. My damage is really great (I've added a video in a build guide) and survivability is much higher. I came to the same conclusion about Shrapnel shot and Blast Rain as I already posted. I really enjoy the sinergy between the two. PS nice iphone typing skillz! :) |

Check ZiggyD channel atm, they used some variation of your build ;) But like I said, with Rearguard. And they use stun nodes from maces and staff nodes for endurance charges
