Item Development - Threshold Jewels
80% of the new chars will be Scions xD

Will we receive these jewels as quest rewards?. And if not how common/rare will they be. I am asking this because they will be pretty much required to run those skills. Having to pay ~1ex+ would stop me from even trying them out.

Concerning spectral throw, it would be cool if that new unique Jewel, or a different one, or a support gem gave the ability to slow projectile speed down without losing a lot of range. That would allow the individual projectiles to hit more times and receive more of a benefit from the new Jewel.
Maybe having a way to increase projectile range without affecting proj speed instead, would mean we could decrease proj speed and the re-increase the range and that would make this new unique Jewel pretty strong and worth using... It would also mean having a second unique Jewel or lose a gem slot - so not a free buff. Idea for the gem/Jewel : 'supported projectiles do not have their range affected by projectile speed modifiers' Something like that - typing this on my phone while walking to work through traffic, so this post may be written funny - will re-read and edit later. |

While these could make these skills viable choices for mapping, the skills themselves could use a rebalance. It means if you want for example a spectral throw character, you must have these jewels, no choice, because the skill does not do enough damage as it is now. And you can bet these will cost a lot for the popular ones, making it hard to get in a new league.
I really would like to see the skills themselves getting something extra to make them good choices, and the jewels something to get for an end_game mapping boost. Or at the very least, they should be common drops, making them accessible to most players. | |
In case no one mentioned it (stopped reading at page 9)
I bet the ST jewel is way better than the whiners implicate. "gains 4% increased damage each time it hits" does not depend on how many enemies there are but on how often they are hit because (from the wiki): "Enemies can be hit more than once by the same projectile; an enemy can be hit once (per attack) every 0.3 seconds." From the wording on the jewel: I'm pretty sure multiple hits on the same enemy count. I'm also pretty sure that if a projectile hits two enemies simultaneously due to its position both hits will count. This jewel will make positioning count - you'll really want to have the turning point of the projectile(s) be in the back row of the pack instead of beyond it. Mindlessly stacking projectile speed to possibly offscreen things is disincentivised by this jewel. Online delenda est:
When the lifecycle of PoE will draw to an end many years from now, there needs to be a final patch making it available offline. |

Good job GGG again. I really like burning arrow jewel and I found 4 places on the passive tree to put them in. 40% chance to proc is very nice. Now I just have to try to see how this works. Grats guys for this good news.

I like the idea of having these jewels make not-so-popular skills more attractive, but have you considered making one of these for at least every skill? This way already strong skills that people are getting bored of (like cyclone) could get a new twist and see different play-styles.
For example "20% Less melee damage - Spinning tornadoes fly out of your cyclone" ( yes yes, just like diablo, its an example ;p ) ༗ IGN: Warcry ༗

They need to be worthwhile to at least some specific builds, even if they're niche.
10% to do double damage for heavy strike is not worth! 10% in this game is nothing.Even with 50% its bad. |

So... ST will be nerfed then. More I mean. To force you to use this jewel. That's nice.
