I like that youre asking for feedback on it, thats cool :)
honestly not too bothered myself if its flashback or a tempest + warbands hybrid. I guess having given the 2 current leagues a miss almost entirely Id like to maybe get a bit of action in with these mods but maybe most people prefer flashback as theyve just spent a few months in the current leagues? Whatever, I dont mind, either or. If its a flashback theres nothing really stopping warbands and tempest playing a major role and being essentially always on mods or certainly frequent mods in the rotation I guess. for prizes the only prizes Ive ever engaged with were the red and blue sets, thats the only time youve put something out there as a challenge/reward type deal where Ive looked at the challenges and thought yeah, thats achievable enough that I can actually be bothered to invest myself in trying and it had a prize where I really wanted it. Sure a laptop is great, hardware is great, but the time investment I could just take on extra work and buy a laptop with those hours if I really wanted one. The exclusive armours are a bit more special and game related. If theres physical goods, theres limits to how many, so ya for top prizes you got the big guns, but Id like to see an essentially infinite supply prize like in game graphics attached to something a lot of people can work towards and achieve regardless of what other people are doing. You dont have to beat other people to get them, you just have to challenge yourself and achieve it. further thoughts on the red/blue month event we had and how it relates to the game at large, bit of a ramble but here it is if anyone has the time or the care to read it...
Spoiler
You know, as much as I love the economycentric game, Im firmly against an offline single player version etc... theres an element to arpgs, a draw to them for me where its just about me, right? If I wanted to go be mr l33t look at me Id be thrashing away at some deathmatch fps ego game thats all about skill and dominating the opposition. Theres a side to arpgs where you just disappear in your own little world, at your own little tempo, exploring and having your own personal fun. I think an arpg is flawed if it doesnt embrace that aspect and cater to it on some level. Ok you got the 8/8 big ego challenges, the first guy to do blah blah, but its important to have challenges too that everyone can take away and just attempt to achieve and feel like they have a shot on their own. Things in the game that dont boil down to "well everythings tradable, so to achieve anything in any area what you have to do is master pvp trading, stamp out all the competition and then buy your goal from xyz/trade chat while everyone beneath you is left to rot in their own mass failure." That kind of sums up virtually everything in this game and its why everything in this game tastes so bitter and empty. The Red/Blue armours I think moved away from that. Sure some of us did it super quick on whatever, day 5 of the month race, whatever it was. We no life this game, we put in more hours in 5 days than most people have to put into the whole month race. Not everything should be balanced towards the sort of people we are. Even those of us in that bracket running around in stupid mirrored gear getting mass wealth from temp leagues etc, we dont like too many things balanced towards us, sometimes we feel like hey man, I just want to chill and take it a bit slow. But then we look at the landscape and often struggle to find anything worth attempting if we dont no life it, it can be so 'all or nothing' constantly with PoE. Sometimes that propels us to go hard, and sometimes it just makes us say hey, theres no point in taking part at all. Go hard or go home, thats great, until a lot of people just go home. Im sure the HvRs of this world love smashing the competition and they should have their thing but the red/blue set was the only time Ive felt like PoE actually felt like it was designed for the playerbase at large. It was something where we could all take part and theoretically all succeed, 1 guy 'winning' didnt mean everyone else had to fail. If Ventor gets to craft a sick item, that meant there were no eternals and exalts for another 100,000 players to craft anything, if Etup manages to get 100 in record time that means another 100,000 players need to have their endgame access nerfed to shit, if 8/8 requires a Disfavour, theres only 1 left and Helman has 400 exalts to buy it then everyone else is screwed.... It feels like its always virtually everyone has to fail in order to make 1 guy or 1 tiny group of peoples achievement feel that bit more special to them. But the game needs those other people, it cant afford to turn them into permafailures with no motivation, theyre 99% of the player base. That month race was the first and only time I felt like we were a positive community having fun playing a game together, not dog eat dog hostile pissed off egotists tearing each other apart, which is how this game normally feels. Maybe its very different in new zealand but living here in london, thats how society feels. A really angry, aggressive horror show of people who are just sick to their back teeth of holding up this bloody pyramid so that some guy they hate can dance all over them and remind everyone else how he won this game theyre playing and the other 60 million people in the country are failures. Its not conducive to positivity, its not conducive to participation, its really oppressive. With the red blue set challenge it felt like for once the game wasnt about the player base being spectators to some untouchable elite jerkoff session but rather an inclusive, motivating, shared sense of fun. I have never interacted with as many people in PoE as I did in that week, I felt like it brought out the best in people, and the way PoE is designed in the wider sense for the most it brings out the worst in people, the greed, the envy, the anger, the egos, the win at all costs. That may seem like a funny, farcical, comic role playing thing if you are a super nice chilled guy from green and beautiful New Zealand where youre all relaxed and the world is a genuinely nice place, jovial arseholism for lols, but when youve grown up in a massive dark city like London its just an ugly mirror of an every day reality you absolutely despise and can find no joy in. Just random thoughts make of them what you will. I just welcome things in the game where I can achieve it, I_NO can achieve it, but JohnKeys can also achieve it and we can all be happy for each other. I dont like feeling like my joy always comes at the expense of others and if I were to take my foot off the accelerator for a minute I would be relegated to being fodder for someone elses fun. |

I would rather have a warbands and tempest hybrid league. Flashback is something that can be done at anytime, and it only gets more interesting as more leagues happen, but a league with a combination of warbands and tempest would feel out of place if it happened at a later time. Also, it would be nice to have the challenges from warband/tempest achievable in the hybrid league.

" Dat won't happen, GGG has to get the dosh! My choice: Flashback daily rotation with the warbands/tempests Permanent league ofc Rewards: - challenge/level req based - can involve "exotic" map/mob goals Random MTX armor set + random weapon mtx (this would be an awesome incentive to play for) Come on GGG, don't be a scrooge, get some MTX reward RNG going on. |

I have to say that the Week, or was it a month race with 20 exiles everywhere has been the peak of both fun and challenge and just complete madness for me. Getting to level 1-10 was the most difficult thing I've done yet in my 1800+ hours of PoE. Beyond was the 2nd league that popped up these kind of insane crazy moments.
I've currently been playing Tempest, and I must say.. It's stale and boring as hell. It's dissapointing to go into a map and see it's ruined OR glorified by a certain tempest for ex; Abyssal vs Corrupting Tempests. It's too random and not consistent enough to have a lot of fun! You are waiting for the fun hour to happen. Flashback has the similiar problem to that. Get 1-3 days of mods you don't like? --> You are now waiting 3 days to have fun again. So 1 month event with just insanely fun mods ( that don't necessarily increase your loot gain ) Would be the most fun at least for me. Bring back Beyond, Exiles, some crazy mods and more SPEED! Lets go !! |

As a casual hardcore player, definitely flashback. Make it challenging from level 1!
Release invasion was tons of fun, my first level 2 RIP! With a hybrid of tempest and warbands I'm afraid it would be the same ('boring') levelling again till map level. I'd probably take a break till the next challenge league. As for prizes: I'd say a hybrid model: 1. a bunch of prizes for the first xxx that reached xxx 2. Random draw rewards (hardware?) from a certain treshold to reward players for participating. 3. MTX rewards for completing challenges (should still be challenging) for everyone. This keeps it interesting for the no lifers (prize 1), for the casual player (prize 2) and to keep them playing after reaching the treshold there is prize 3. | |
my personal opinion:
Hybrid/Flashback: I'm really looking forward to try out Tempest, so that would be my top incentive to play. I also really enjoyed the flashback league however, especially the days where Beyond, Ambush and Invasion were involved. As such, i'd like a combination of those, but with an emphasis on experiencing Tempest. Player Goals: I think i'd mostly like challenges that are completable in a mostly casual way. Usually the challenges for the normal leagues are a tad too hard for me because there is either luck/trading involved (currency/unique/warband leaders) or some of the goals are too hard for me to achieve unless i roll a really good build (Core boss or similar). I'm not really incentivized by reaching lvl 80 or something, but it would be nice to have a set of challenges that is comparable to achieve but more interesting to complete. For instance i'm thinking of a 'kill these map bosses' challenge without the 79-82 bosses or something. Or maybe even better, tier it, so you get more of a reward the more on the list you check off. Rewards: I'd think id be most happy with an alternate art unique or something else in-game that isnt purely cosmetic. If it has to be cosmetic, maybe something like a hideout decoration or spell effect. I've been close to buying one of those. Maybe a nice idea could be a random skill-mtx of a skill you're using in the build that completed the challenge set. |

Can we have both hybrid and flash back at the sametime? It's seem super fun and hard as f that way.

Really looking forward to this event!!
I personally would love to see a Flashback event, with the Warbands and Tempest mods added into the mix as well. The last event that followed this scheme was very enjoyable! As for prizes, perhaps a mix of prizes would be best suited? Maybe the top 10-20 players on each ladder could receive a physical prize (signed art etc) along with a special MTX set (in order to promote competition), and then a set of challenges/achievements would yield a different MTX set that most players could grind for (like the last 1 month event). Again, like the last 1 month event, each league (softcore/hardcore) could have different colour schemes for their respective MTX rewards. Very happy with the announcement, thanks to everyone at GGG! |

I would say Flashback, as the Tempest/Warbands combination will be there anyways and more mod variety = more fun imo.
For goals i think challenges are the best, and you could include reaching a certain level threshold as one of them anyways. For prizes MTX are always stimulating, but i'd love to see other armour types than seraph if you find no drawbacks, or even some weapon MTX. Ideally different colours on softcore and hardcore leagues just like the last time. " This would work as well for me though *o* Thanks for your great work, this expansion has really brought the game to the maximum fun and hype for me, some love for the guild system would be very welcomed though. A build that only has might is not mighty.
ADAPT OR RIP! |
