Your point proves the false in the concept my friend. Instead they could make even more interesting transactions to sell. Which one would you prefer?
I don't even understand what you just said.
I am talking about pricing and you come with making more MTX?
You said that if they make microtranactions available to all characters, would make prices to go up, in order to cover their margin loss. I suggest to make them available for all characters and cover their money loss by offering more microtransaction effects. What is it you don't understand?
That' not how it works.
You want them to make more mtx which will cost more time and resources, but people will buy a new mtx 1 time instead of maybe 3-4 times (because they can use it on all characters simultaniously).
They would get 25% of what they got previously. To get the same amount as before they would have to make 400% the amount of mtx they did previously. But this would also raise the time and resources spend to 400%.
So they have 100% of what they made prevously, but 400% the time and resource cost. That's still only 25% in relation.
Raising the price of the mtx would be the only way to compensate and if people are complaining about prices now, you can imagine what happens then.

I've been messing around with some of the cosmetic effects I got from the boxes as well as using some of the ones I already had and I'm in love with the set I'm wearing now.
I managed to get the Infernal Skull, Fiery Visage, Infernal Body Armor, Infernal Footprints and 1 Infernal Weapon Effect and I mixed them with my Seraph Boots and Gloves.
The end result was this: http://puu.sh/j2cze/1d03d650e5.jpg
I got the infernal gloves too, but in all honesty, I love the little flare from the seraph set. It mixes so well. The seraph boots are a bit more noticeable in their different, I may buy the infernal boots when they are released on the store instead.
Although I still feel like I shouldn't have spent so much, this seems ok.
To those saying "I don't understand all of the complaining going on here". It's very simple:
EVEN if you buy, let's say 10 boxes, the numbers seem SO SKEWED that even if you get a piece of the new set (which is their selling point for this new box..), the new set pieces are SO expensive that it will still be cheaper to buy the full set combo price instead of the pieces individually. I don't remember the post, but this is the reason I agree with someone saying "at least make the microtransaction system fair". Which in its current state, is clearly not. Don't get me wrong, I will gladly support GGG. I have in the past and I will again, but at least don't try to bleed your customers dry under the guise of "donations".
Edit: the bolded part is referring to the fact that in all likelihood, 90% of the 10+ box buyers will receive boots/gloves instead of chest/helm.
Edit 2: Spelling.
This is why I was hoping I didn't get any of the new set, I wanted footprints and weapon effect.
Dat Rng, got'em in 2 boxes. Mind you even if I didn't get them I wouldn't have spent anymore, it's a gamble. Know when to stop. You have nobody else to blame if you don't know when to stop. We always have choices.
This is as much of a win as it is of a loss. The only person who would be bleed dry is someone who doesn't know when to quit.
Man GGG can't do anything w/o QQ on the forums. I used leftover points to get 3 boxes, I'm at work so I can't open them yet. Hopefully it will be a nice surprise when I get home. Either way, I don't currently have any of the fire mtx's, so unless all three boxes contain the same thing, I won't be disappointed.

No one wants a company to go down the lockbox road.

Obviously we disagree. I can't be the only one that doesn't buy dupe mtxs. But i would spend much more money to buy different ones. Your theory for higher prices depends on too many assumptions, and only GGG has the actual numbers.
Anyways, in the long run, its not always about the most money you can make, but also how you can keep your customers happy.
Don't fool yourself exile... your end is just around the corner!
