Divination Cards?
" Too bad. If these cards have to do with league specific items, it means that whatever gameplay addition they bring it will be heavily balanced (nerfed) to safeguard the economy, similarity to outrageous Zana prices... When night falls

" I'll be pretty sad if that is all they are. Very uninspired if so. Another gameplay mechanic cut down by the dreaded economy. "Danger is like jello, there's always room for more."

" What else can it be? Whether it is content or unique item, it looks pretty obvious that you need to collect a 12/12 set. The cards are meant to be traded. ? So there will be some common, some rare and maybe 1 or 2 uberfuckingrarewtf. That they can be, and are meant to be traded implies there will have to be at least 1 extremely rare cards or it would be nothing more than everyone completes the set real quick. Instead it will be the few who cough up the exalts will complete the set real quick. Being someone who ignores trade, I love the hunt, so I'm not entirely put off by this. However, the quote in my sig leaves me with little faith that the chance of finding the 'rare card/s' in game rather than buying it/them won't be further gated, by design, behind some other trade-focused access or low level mindless faceroll zone flipping. Casually casual.

I still hope the cards are something more, than just items you need to collect / trade for to cash in on a league specific unique.
There were a bunch of nice ideas posted in this thread, that have to do with enriching content, making it more dynamic / difficult, provide loot bias... Anything that influences content somehow, pls :( When night falls

" I was sold on 'The Harvest' referring to the zone. But Chris said it was referring to the unique. Unless he was throwing red herrings in a 'well I didn't exactly say that'. It's also possible, I suppose, that whether referencing the unique or the zone, it could just be a set name and have no other implication. Casually casual. Maybe if you collect 12/12 cards you can trade them in at an NPC for the Unique item?
Ascension tied to Lab is the worst thing GGG has done...apart from GGG's philosophy on Trading. Oh and Gambling Loot boxes. And selling out to tencent.
I used to love GGG. I supported to ensure GGG remained independent, now I just wish I could get my money back. -_- |

Feels like steam trading cards. Except, instead of getting levels for collecting all 12 or whatever, you get a divination deck, and can then use that somewhere to get the unique...perhaps through a vendor recipe, or perhaps through something like a map device.
Let's go through the things this would do... It adds more reason to trade. GGG likes the economy. Makes sense. It lowers the price of uniques for people with less cash, since they only need to trade for "those last few cards" rather than be blessed by RNGesus in a map that costs money. Makes the game more friendly to newbies while making people trade more. Seems legit. Gives people a feeling of completion on an achievable goal, rather than a feeling that they are attempting to constantly win the lottery for a unique. This feeling is important in video games, and people who leave often cite poor drop rates as a reason for leaving. Slightly reduces "legacy item" complaints, since league legacies will be more obtainable, but still keeps them nicely locked up behind smaller chunks of RNG. The Archdemon picture and the text likely just adds flavor, just like a Tarot deck. Different items likely have different divination decks, but also probably share some of the photos and flavor text on the cards because of real-life business concerns of making that much artwork. This mechanic would be pretty tacky without something additional like this. Also, a divination deck is necessary for trading functionality. "WTS upper-left piece of the harvest!" Yeah, that doesn't work. "Selling Harvest Card 10/12!" Works great. The more rare the item, the bigger the deck. For instance, a Shav's deck could probably be 50 cards. This could also break down the trade barrier for new players. If you're fresh, you don't know if your rare is 1 exalt or 10 exalts. But, you know that card 10/12 for a harvest is equal to card 5/12 for a harvest in value. Essentially, this probably spreads out one amazing RNG roll into several good RNG rolls, without reducing the price of the item itself because the chance of getting all cards solo is equal to or less than the chance of getting the item itself. If that is so, this is genius, and I love this mechanic. I sincerely hope that all major uniques (besides Atziri-style uniques) have their own divination deck. I could use another Voll's devotion. I'd love that divination deck. IGN: Fiona_Falconstrike, Geldar_the_Barbarian, Natalie_Fellshadow Last edited by InsaneWallaby#6740 on Apr 25, 2015, 9:57:57 AM

i would rather have a divination card have the capability to allow map mods in normal areas. rarity of the card reflected in increasing item lvl.....example
u in oil fields and ctrl click to make new somewhere put in divination card to randomly add map mods and increase lvl of drops or mobs. yes they have corrupted areas but this would allow a player to pick what area they feel safe changing.
damage modifiers don't can currently can't apply to degen.
Maybe you can collect cards from bosses you kill in non map areas, have them form a deck which you can use alongside a map to have all of them spawn on that map with the same mods?
Like a single dunes map with 36 extra bosses :) Vote +1 to change Path of Exile to Path of Nerfs.
We hate to say, but ProjectPT was right. |
