Are certain accounts more likely than others to get in? I've played PoE for 3000 hours.

All accounts have an equal chance of being selected. It's important that we get a mix of new players and veterans. Their feedback and data is equally useful.

When the countdown hits zero, the Closed Beta servers will become live. The Beta Invite Timer will then start selecting users at the rate of one per five minutes. As soon as we can, we'll invite Alpha testers and certain Streamers to the Beta to join the members of the public who are selected.

We've also given Closed Beta access to the 260 Diamond supporters that generously contributed $1000 back during Path of Exile's Closed Beta.

Our plan for scaling up Beta access for existing users has two prongs.

We will give Closed Beta access to top-tier supporters from previous sets of Supporter Packs:
Diamond Supporters (Closed Beta) were granted access today
Ruler/Eternal Supporters (Open Beta) will be granted access tomorrow
Conqueror Supporters (Release) will be granted access the next day
Grandmaster Supporters (Forsaken Masters) will be granted access the day after

We'll also be running some events in-game over the next few weeks that award keys. Tomorrow's news post is about a solo (trading disabled) five-day event that we'll be running starting on the weekend.

Path of Exile always had a certain Pay2Win Mechanic, namely StashTabs.
The more of them you had, the more items for trade you could store resulting in a higher cashflow and in the end, more currency to buy better gear.
Since every company needs to feed itself, named Premium Service is reasonable and accepted by most of the playerbase.

Considering the beta:
Picking users by random is indeed the fair-est system GGG could go for.
Adding high prestige streamers and gaming news providers to the list is in everyone's interest, but also monopolizes POE news and user-content creation even more to the few (by GGG) picked streamers.

To put $$$ paying users on a higher level than normal players by giving them free premium access (additionally to the included skins, titles and bonuses from the 1000$ supporter packs), is indeed, not fair.

TL;DR:
The community should be handled equally in every specific case.
The "pay more, get more" principle should only apply on cosmetic transactions.
Allowing rich people to skip the waiting is a shady tactic that splits the communiy.


But, that's only my 2 cents.

u think this guys work for free? they have a family to feed, bills to pay, bones for their dogs etc.

initially they said the keys were pure random but halfway through they changed their course; streamers got their keys first. then now those supporters that paid huge amount get it too.

whats next? pay X amount to their paypal account for the key directly? LOL.

I signed to closed beta but to be honest Im happy I don't have the key. I signed while I was drunk so Im excused. You guys keep testing the content during sleepless nights and keep us posted - it's spring time, the green trees are just outside the window together with cold beer and hot barbecue. Beta access could only ruin the spring for me :)I'll play when its finished, about the time when it will be cold and rainy and nothing to do outside :)

Wow people are salty in here..

The top tier supporters helped make the game into what it is today.

Them getting priority access into the beta makes perfect sense. Not only does GGG want to show their appreciation.. but the veteran players are going to provide the most feedback to GGG during beta which will benefit all of us.

Trust me, I would love to have beta access.. But this seems perfectly reasonable to me.

It's not like they are rewarded with a competitive advantage over the rest of us once the new season starts.. Just relax

No salt from me. I've been trying to ignore the act IV CB threads, tears and spoilers, but I had to watch a bit of etup's stream. Very impressive marketing and very impressive changes to an already great game seem to be coming.

UI changes, Graphics optimizations, loot filters, Desync fix incoming!... these are crucial issues that people were really concerned with. Major props GGG.

Also, I am totally hyped about a 5day self found event. Amazing.
