There's 5 projectiles, If it works with GMP there should be 25 projectiles? It would make flame totem a 360 degree turret and might see a freezing pulse build working similar to Diablo 2 lightning nova sorc.
Awesome Shake Up's for Totems

Unlike the majority of negative reviews with such little actual information to go on I will enjoy trying to test ("If I get beta access") Double Flame Totems out and make them viable with these new mechanics.

I'm not sure how GMP will work in a basic FT > GMP > FProj > FPen > Added Chaos setup but I sure am going to find out one way or another.

Cast speed on the Totem Passives are already good enough imo to allow for good cast speeds.

GGG's usually pretty good about their wording. I think if they meant higher tiers, it would've been phrased like that. But yeah, it would be nice to get a definitive answer.
