For years i searched for deep truths. A thousand revelations. At the very edge...the ability to think itself dissolves away.Thinking in human language is the problem. Any separation from 'the whole truth' is incomplete. My incomplete concepts may add to your 'whole truth', accept it or think about it
several reasons:
1. It's annoying to lose your spectres when logging out. Yes you lose zombies, but spectres are more unique, closer to Animate Guardian. If an Animate Guardian can retain its items, why can't a spectre gem retain its spectres?
2. The quality bonus is absolute total crap. It is only for a possibly slower-moving spectres that needs help reaching the movement cap. It does absolutely nothing for most other faster-moving spectres. And why would you need minion movement speed in the first place? No, you need qualities like the zombies have. Minion life/damage.
More like that spectres are the one minion people go to a specific place to and raise only that 1 mob type to make the game content trivial compared to what it would be if they had to summon mobs from the zone theyre in.
There's challenge, then there's quality of life. Don't get them mixed up.

You have to admit that loosing a lvl 78 spectre to a login screen is pathetic. It is not that easy to raise a good one, and one should not be punished just like that for no serious reason.

Summon something from the zone youre in, thats the biggest problem the gem has, people dont do that. Rush to get the most fireball or bubble spectres or whatever else is OP atm and faceroll. Thats not how they should work.
maybe they should have a timer like revives in D2 had. Thats way more balanced for those "summon whatever corpse you want" kind of gems. Its broken because they stay until killed, its dumb.

I don't get this animosity towards "making the game trivial" and facerolling content. I can faceroll just as easily (if not more so) with my zombies...or any other build for that matter. If Spectres offer a unique way to faceroll content, why hinder its full potential?

It is the biggest problem indeed, makes playing a summoner a bit frustrating.
But I have no idea what do you mean about facerolling. Have you ever played a summoner in highest maps (plus bloodlines, beyond maps or something similar)? And how well do they perform vs for example TS ranger, Flameblaster prolif, Mjollner discharger, CoC builds?
I am not sure why would you think spectres are in any way op (or did I miss your point?). But making spectres "on the run minion" is terrible, it's like playing Spark build with 5 random support gems you have no control of. Something you get FC, Spell Echo and Light Pen but sometimes Melee Phys DMG, Added Fire and Cold to Fire. This solution is not possible in a game revolving around gem mechanics.
Options are nice, but I get the impression from some of the replies that few of you have played with spectres in high level maps. There remains one huge lurking problem: level scaling. Options mean nothing if spectres do not scale with level. That is the underlying problem with spectres that will always make them remain the weak point and ultimately unviable in end game (high level maps). I grabbed 3 Undying Evangelists from level 2 of the Sceptre of God (monster level 68). I had them linked with Minion Damage, Spell Echo, Increased Duration, and Increased AOE. Running 7 auras (Grace, Hatred, Haste, Discipline, and the 3 single purity auras) on my low life variant, they were all torn apart within 2 minutes of running a timed Zana mission (level 76 map with damage mods). Of the zombies, 7/9 of them survived. This should give you an idea of what needs to be implemented to make spectres viable. My Raise Spectre gem is a corrupted 21/20. Zombies are not affected by the level of monster raised, so the monster level you raise them as is a moot point. I don't understand to this day why spectres scale down with level, but do not scale up? Why can't spectres simply match the area level to which they are in?

I'm sorry but, have you ever run high level maps with a summoner? There are no "whatever else is OP atm and faceroll" spectres. No spectre "facerolls" any maps that are 76-78 at the moment. You don't play a summoner to "faceroll" high level content, you play them because they are viable and fun. If you want to "faceroll" anything outside of maps, then sure, any build works. But anyone can do that within a few days time on any build that isn't completely random and/or poorly planned out.

This guy gets it.
But again, to reiterate, the problem is not losing spectres when logging out, the problem is spectre level scaling. You can raise spectres very easily by using a leveled Desecrate gem.
Still in the alpha stage, but at least build diversity isn't an issue: https://wolcengame.com/home/

This x100.
Anyway, can't wait to play a Summoner in Awakening, Golems, new spectres, sharing passives and hopefully several good minion items (please god just not skeletons again) and hopefully a good shield or two for interesting Necro Aegis builds.

How did you manage to run 7 Auras. Im currently doing level 78 maps with the new maps and my specs survive fine, im guessing you didn't use zombies?. If You have a caster spec you need Life leech late game, if you go melee spectres you need Fortify otherwise yes they will take too much damage if swarmed or vs a buffed up boss.
ALSO ive been trialing the enemies called Kaoms Chosen. Only good one is the one with 'resists fire" and this one will do molten strike :) prety sweet.
Its super important to get multistike though ( for 3 Molten strikes) and i was lucky to get 2 reds in a 5 link ES armour and use fortify for the second red. If only going one red to trial just go minion life.
At first these guys look pretty average becuase they dont proc molten constantly but when they do it does ridiculous damage.
