So you're honestly telling me that if you where to travel somewhere within the next few weeks, you would say to people wondering ''When?'' ''eeeeh, some time later this year''
I object to that reality.
:D

I'm just a single person who's not obligated to anything. I can say whatever I want. Nick is an employee, probably under some sort of NDA. How hard it is to understand?

If the expansion still would be due in a few weeks he would've said ''the upcoming act4''

Do you honestly believe that is true? Because it's not.
Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Why not level scale the skill, 5 levels to 1 skill level, by 100 it a level 20 spell.

If the skill is part of the item and the supports simply have to be in sockets to support that skill does this not have to have links at all? would a 6S be the same as a 6L for this item? That seems broken?

No, you won't need links at all.
Broken? Ehh... we'll have to wait and see.

It'll certainly murder the fuck out of level 33 enemies with negligible investment (both on the tree and in (lack of) fusings), but without Empower and with how meh the base stats on the staff are, its end-game-ability is questionable right now.

Then again, A4 may change damage scaling at large, so who knows.

I had assumed that support gems from separate link-structures would create separate instances of the active skill to add to the skill bar.

If indeed you can run the staff un-linked, then I actually really like that. One item, no matter how good or bad its performance throughout the many stages of the game.. but one item that can run full supports without the added layer of RNG obfuscation. That is a good thing in my book.

I prefer a part of the forum where each unique is explained in detail, like the skill gem thread (though not all info is given in OP's)

Transparency is very lacking in a lot of gems/ uniques mechanics.
Players have to ask several times before an answer is given somewhere mid-thread.
Countless of googling or scrolling is required to find needed info.

This is very annoying and in my opinion not very professional.
Please give this awesome game more available information for the players.

Thank you.

i've came to terms a long time ago about not being able to use some uniques just because of the cost for them and the grind to get them. but now we will have a awesome skill that is now in the same boat. this sucks for some of us for sure.

hope we see some kind of skill gem for this even if its not made exactly the same way.
This probably won't be that expensive unless the skill's AoE values differ drastically from Firestorm. Playing with a 0 quality Firestorm is absolutely awful, even if you can theoretically get more damage.

ambusher with 5% base crit chance incoming

Ambushers have high attack speed. It would not hurt them as much as staffs or even bows which are fairly slow too.

... unlike other supports, they affect things that are properties of the gem, not the skill it grants. Since this item, and Jaws of Agony before it, grant a skill without a gem, those gem-only supports cannot apply to the granted skills.

Spoiler

"...Place into an item socket connected to a socket containing the active skill gem you wish to augment..."

I dont quite get this part, all supports seems to be gem-only support if according to these wording :X

yeah im with u, why support gems like spell echo, added chaos/cold/lightning, inc AoE etc will work and empower/enhance not?
it says for all support gems "PLACE INTO AN ITEM SOCKET CONNECTED TO A SOCKET CONTAINING THE ACTIVE SKILL GEM YOU WISH TO AUGMENT

Zimz - You're reading the wrong part as to what the gem does.

Check out the wording on the gems socketed in there compared to the ones socketed here:

Specifically, the blue text that is about that specific gem, not the generic "how to use support gems" text.

I'm sure it's been mentioned a lot of times in this thread already but:

Binding a skill on an item is an obvious wrong design choice. It locks the skill, makes the item a requirement and it is overall lazy. There are 2 possible outcomes:

1) The skill will be extremely strong and the item extremely rare: I can already hear the cries..
2) The skill will be extremely strong and the item common: This will be a disaster because you don't actually need gear for this to work..Need I explain more?
3) The skill will be extremely weak: Item will be pointless or maybe only viable in low levels. Lets hope for something like that..

Pls have some people that actually play POE design the uniques because I'm pretty sure many experienced players are facepalming right now... This is the first time that it is so obvious that you actually don't play your game anymore.

Lets just hope this will not be an end game skill..
Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not easy.
