MF Farming: Gravicious or Dominus?
Rarity is important, but luck is everything. :)
I have 1 character w/over 200 IIR that has never found anything really good from Dom. I have another one with avg. to below avg. and he has found more. Go figure. At the end of the day for currency, items, maps, anything, it's RNG. Period. Natharias, don't throw jews into socketing it. I can give you one that already has the sockets but it's not linked. I play nearly every evening-night US CT. Look for this character: BBQueenKill. Censored.

" No thanks. I'm not the type of person to accept gifts, charity, or other things in games. If I don't get it myself, I don't have it. If I trade for something using stuff I've gotten I consider it earning it. Otherwise I probably would've had 500 exalts by now and had all the gear I ever could've wanted. It's amazing how noobs end up getting the drops but don't know the game, but people like me know the game but never get the drops. One of my friends got a Shavronne's Wrappings within twelve hours of playing, and within two hours after beating Dom in Merciless the first time. He then six socketed and linked it with less than an exalted worth of jeweler's and fusings. Yet, because he didn't know the game, threw it to shit by using a Vaal Orb on it. |

OP, honestly I feel like you are thinking luck is way more of a factor than it actually is. I was able to make a BM dual flametotem build that could do 4 min Dom runs by the third day of bloodlines. This is also the exact build i would recommend to someone with no gear. You are able to get a ton of resists from the tree with this build, as well as a ton of life and regen. The number one thing you would want to invest in is a tabula rasa, which I used to farm Dom for all of bloodlines without dying.
The main way you make currency from Dom farming is by IDing and vendoring rares. Second comes the chaos recipe (I prefer Unid), and third comes big ticket drops (only luck factor). By the end of the first week of the league, I was able to buy 2x andvarius, aurseize, and other IIR rares. Remember this is not legacy, you will have access to way better mf items than I had. Once I got my IIQ/IIR to 26/300+, I was easily making .75ex per hour consistently. This included about 150 alts per hour, with the rest coming from the Unid chaos recipe. Big ticket drops were just extra on top of this, but they aren't something to depend on. Best drops I got all league were a soul taker (sold 5ex) and a rumis concoction (sold 3ex). |

In my experience it's better to just have a badass character who can do high quantity maps instead of trying to get uniques or chaos recipe with IIR. It's like every single day just from playing for a couple of hours I find either a divine orb, an exalted orb, or even once I found an eternal. This is inside of 80% quanity and higher maps. And seems like I get an exalted worth of uniques every week on top of that. It's gotten to the point where I just don't have anything left to buy anymore.

" I could see this working fine for some, but I don't think it's a good idea for people like me in a hardcore environment. A map with 80% quality or higher is likely to have some mods I either can't run, or don't want to run while trying to have a very fast clear speed. I very rarely run a rare map, instead i alt until I get pack size, magic monsters, or beyond. Preferably with the other affix being something safe. |

" That's exactly what I'm trying to work towards. It's easier to gear and run high IIQ maps than it is to farm anything with MF gear. Not only does the MF gear consume currency, either by gamble-crafting yourself or by trading, it leaves you weaker and thereby less able to do content. Only problem is that most builds that can do all content (like low-life, since it can do BM, half regen, no regen, -max res, etc) cost a considerable amount of currency to get running. The only cheap* build I know of that can do all content is a dual Cybil's Paw life and life regeneration build. The sheer amount of LGOH from Incinerate and easy damage just makes it too durable. But it's boring. |

" I'm running a shockwave totem build and trying to aim each days for harder and harder contents. Actually so far i can play these mods usually hard to play for many builds: -50% life / mana regen No life / mana regen ( with some hybrid flask and turtle mapping ) Any reflect map Blood magic ( removing auras in this case but dps still decent it's just a bit longer ) Elemental weakness or -x% to maximum resist maps Vulnerability and elemental equilibrium About Atziri it's possible to kill her with it but need some gears btw. I havn't played so much in torment so have been able to do only one try on her at level 80 and i didn't had my 20/20 gems and cool wands at this time duo vaal has been easy / trio super easy / and finaly death on atziri. Build is from HvR you can find it in witch section. Currencies invested for this build: Maligaro + 5L cloak of defiance ( you are non dependant of these uniques but it's possible upgrades for it ) Top item for this build: Void battery ( no need to mention it's ABSOLUTELY not necessary i'm actually using 2x60spell damage wands with 15% cast speed and a shield + 1 wands for some specific contents ) And to answer the op: Just rush levels without aiming for boss farming and when you have enough damage / gem leveled / junk gears with main need for your build start to farm dominus it's assuming you spend 0 currencies to farm him ultra rewarding. You can also do some mapping but dominus is FAR more rewarding than mapping assuming the 0 risk 0 time and 0 currencies invested to farm him. Hf :) Last edited by Heli0nix#0378 on Mar 21, 2015, 2:12:18 AM

For most people running Gravicious is not going to be efficient or rewarding in terms of both item finds or currency generation.
However, if it takes you 15 minutes to run Dominus and you die multiple times you really don't have many other options do you? |

excuse me to necro thread. But form my personnal experience, (got already 20ex + stashed in standard league without trading much) the best way to MF farm is obviously to run maps, even more nowadays, and after leveluping eventually spend few hours running auras on life with wondertraps and shit.
MF has diminishing returns. Also PoE is about managing you mapping, doing boss runs isn't made to be ^^. With a management of gear, personnally I have 3-4 variations of my gear: culler party, solo low life mf, solo midrange mf/run, clearspeed and I navigate through those builds while building my map pool, the purpose is gaining more than I spend. I get quite a few uniques per hours, tons of 6 slots, and I believe as much alts per hours than a mf-er. Especially now that maps roll rarity. For instance it is almost quicker to do a strand map in full retarded low life mf than a dom, and right now it gives just more alched, and don't tell me it costs an alch, when you farm lvl72 mobs that drop 60% more, maybe one run out of 5 you loose 2 alts but overall you just win far more. New A4 boss may loot rly well too, but it requires rly rly good gear to be efficient. Don't bother going there without 80K dps, a good machine and 6Khp. And don't get me started on divinations card, wich get more and more palpables as you progress through maps. Last edited by galuf#4435 on Jul 20, 2015, 10:18:58 PM

Farming Voll ist quite good when starting out. That whole zone is like a map on its own with a boss. Tons of rares/blue packs aswell.
Some even like farming arena. I'm not sure about that. Once getting to level 77 mapping is the way to go. Last edited by zorker#7481 on Jul 21, 2015, 3:48:11 AM
