Low Level Dueling: State of Exile

Yeah I think nado is in a good place, it makes bowers competitive with melee without NEEDING to trap, but the map advantage of traps is really still way too strong. Either the maps need to change, or traps need to quit working with point blank in pvp.

By the way, what the heck is with Freezing Pulse shotgunning from a trap? So insanely overpowered.

And 6 linked counter gems are ruining melee vs melee, it's becoming a contest of who can use a 4 linked main skill better, because everyone's supporting their counters more than their attacks. And it's working.
Here are a couple of my thoughts as someone who is relatively new to pvp.

Damage: I think damage overall should be reduced. A lot of fights last less than 1-2 seconds. Armour on gear is basically worthless; even with my granite up I still get chunked.

Traps: the point-blank support gem on traps is really, really dumb. The gem is supposed to reward ranged attackers for playing with more risk by being closer to their enemy. This makes no sense on traps.

Melee diversity: sword block reduction nodes should be made into generic nodes for all melee weapons attacks. All I see are swords, swords, swords... Although, even is this was changed, swords would still be #1 due to many other reasons.

Melee range: dagger/claw range should not be as long as other 1H weapons, and 1H sword range should not be as long (or longer) than 2H weapons. Thrusting sword range is just... lol

Melee attacks: molten strike and cyclone, which are AoE attacks, are better at single-target damage and other skills that are not AoE.

I wont say anything that hasnt been said already, just pointing out again the thigns that need to b fixed. Main issues I see atm are:

Cyclone: Nothing to say here.

Counter gems: Nothing else to say either.

Molten strike: Same as above.

Point blank traps: The potential 1 shot mechanic is absurd. I think we should either remove point blank from traps or reduce bonus dmg on them substantially (15/20% instead 50% or something like that). It still would b super strong.

Tornado shot: The fact that ppl isnt talking about it atm is because they are busy abusing trigger cyclone molten stuff. Tornado shot still outclasses by far any other ranged skill. Maybe reduce its damage again, or the accuracy. Not sure what should b done.

Maps: Lots of duels turn into a race to see who gets first to the bottom corner. GG. Maps should b remade so we have right/left battles instead up and down bullshit. No more corner /sharp bottoms please.

Some other things that should b fixed but less urgent would b:

Displaying names: The one that enters first into the arena has a huge advantage sicne he knows who is facing wether the other guy doesnt. Make it that either both know or none do.

PVP only chars: Make them able to join sarn arena and to use animate guardian.

Ladder: A rating decay should b definetly added.


e/ Yeah lot of stuff to be done. Im specially worried about maps since they will require a total rework and thats pretty tought and time consuming to do imo.

Ok now it is time for me to add my two cents here.
I am a bower using nado,puncture and of course puncture traps. U guys need to realize that skills are only op under special circumstances.

Nado: I was fighting a 2h guys who offended me after the match and is now asking for a nado shot nerf.A guy with zero defense vs nado, full armour based.How can this be solved?Buff armour. Against every other melee with decent defense nado sucks! i don't even use it anymore cause melees can run into me easily without any fear of getting damaged to much.And i am at the top end of what a non crit nado can achieve atm. Vs bowers nado is the only viable skill. It is really hard to win a bow fight without nado if the other one is using it. So what we gonna do here?Nerf nado?not an option cause it would suck even more vs melee.But you can buff other bow skills like iceshot and burning arrow.

Puncture/-trap: I did some tests with other competitive melee guys. My traps are dropping like 1/3 of their life without multi trap. Is this op?No.Ele traps oneshot lots of people.nuff said.So it is not the initial hit that is to strong, it is the bleed damage while moving. But only on traps! Normal puncture is in a quite good balance. So let us sum this up. Ele traps have a to strong initial hit and puncture traps have a to strong bleed damage while moving. My suggestion is making point blank not work with spells (they already have dual curse and ee for doing massive damage) and reducing the bleed damage while using this gem.Something like "*% reduced damage from over time effects" This would solve the trap problem without making it unviable. Let me be honest here...i know most of you guys got another opinion, but it is very hard to land puncture traps.Wb breaks it with enough ats very easily while moving and cyclone breaks them always they just need to whirl through then.So why shouldn't it have damage that is atleast comparable to molten strike or cyclone? I sometimes fight a guy who is really careful and destroys all of my traps most of the time. I can maybe hit him with 3 traps in a whole match. So why can't you deal with it? Most of the guys that complain in forums do not even try to destroy my traps and just walk across them.

Cyclone: I have fought several cycloners and had some tough matches but all in all i can say that i can beat even the best cycloners if i don't make any severe mistakes , which i do quite often :-D. I need lots of punctures to bring them down slowly while running over the whole map using smokemines, blink and all that stuff we bowers can get, while they melt me withing 2 seconds. Is that a problem for me?No cause killing me fast is the only chance for cycloners to get me. I see the problem when it comes to melee fights cause it is by far the most powerful melee skill. Sadly i do not have a solution for this problem atm.

One thing that is clearly op (and really no one can reject that) are trigger gems. Yesterday i saw one member of my guild being oneshottet by riposte, yes oneshottet. Caster get killed in almost the same speed as they deal damage, without any interaction by the opponent. Guess everyone is aware of that and we will see the nerf for sure.
I'm with you heelon, as a melee with decent block, flicker, wb, and multi traps of my own - I don't see traps or nado as being a problem in need of nerfing. I definitely think other bow skills should be viable though, so a buff to other skills might be the way to go.
the only real gg op skill atm are:

1 from highest 3 lowest

1.elemental trap with fp/tc/ele curse (check swiss tournament most trapper are always #1/2)
2.molten strike
3.cyclone
4.puncture traps with bow (tornado is fine just the puncture trap that is op)

They are up top because 80% of other people are cyclone / fb / molten and they counter it.

and yea don't give advice such as : break the traps, use arc, swap to bow, let them come to you etc.


won't work against them they can just ice spear you and corner you until you run into their trap :D

It's just a counter, nothing more. I am not saying you have a chance. Just like how I cant really fight cyclone/ms or cold casters. This is why 1v1 is really rng in matchmaking.

agreed..i was given a tip to wait 5sec then use arc (becasue arc counter trap..lol?) to break the trap

best tip of the year lolz..it is useful though count 5 second standing still or run around then use arc while they can throw a bunch of more traps
