Low Level Dueling: State of Exile
So I've been asked, and accepted the offer, to appear on the State of Exile podcast.
They want someone informed in LLD to explain to non-pvpers what the state of the lld scene is right now. Some things I'll be answering include, but are not limited to: 1.) What's currently OP? 2.) What needs a buff? 3.) What are the most popular builds? 4.) What needs to be fixed? 5.) How could the scene be improved? 6.) What classes need a rework? Give me your feedback guys, because this should be OUR opinion being put out there, not just mine. |

fix the cyclone, fix the trap dmg, fix the base bow dmg

I want /oos back in pvp. Believe or not that is the biggest problem I have with pvp at the moment.

if just involves LLD:
1) lots of things: Pointblank, Reckoning/Riposte, Cyclone, 1h Sword range, Clever construction, Tornado accuracy, Molten Strike. 2) Energy shield/Armour on gear, Wands mobility, Frenzy, Lightning strike, Elemental hit, ViperStrike(they literally killed this one), Righteous Fire damage. 3) #1 MoltenStrike/Cyclone 1h sword and Freezing Pulse caster, #2 Tornado/PunctureTrap, #3 AFK tank Facebreaker Tri-counterattack. 4) REVISE 10 times the PvP formula for every skill, FFA relocation system/invisibility against spawn campers, CTF/3v3 Private teams(ppl want to group with random), Blitz swap gear while fighting someone. - Display name of rivals in the beginning, let us swap Flasks without losing charges before the first round starts, PvP-only characters access Sarn Arena and also Animated Guardian gem bound to any PvP-only char. 5) Crossleague(debatable) hardcore is dead stop split the LLD player base, FFA new maps, bring back HYBRID mod (stop making LEGACY items you trolls), new Leo Level 7/8 mods(current ones at this level are lame). 6) Templar is the shittiest melee ever, nerf a bit Duelist nodes and they should introduce Scion for LLD i heard is Okay for PvE? " 1)Cyclone, traps in general, point blank + traps, TS, legacy facebreakers 1hitting people, trigger gems and specific in a shield setup, molten strike, 1h foil weapons outranging all 2handed weapons (except axes that have the same range as them) 2) The way armour works on pvp, we can always have a new formula for pvp (though this buff would be most welcomed in pve too) 3) In HC 2h Cyclone, 1h+shield molten/cyclone/tri counter, facebreaker cyclone/tri-counter, Tornado Shot/Puncture/Puncture traps In SC 1h+shield cyclone/molten strike, Tornado Shot/Puncture/Puncture traps 4) Nothing comes to mind atm 5)That really needs a thread on its own, but in general pvp in permanent leagues wont get any better than what already is. 6)At the moment if somebody would check the ladders and the events winners he would see that the right side of the tree classes still dominate the scene : Shadow/Ranger/Witch are still doing great, Duelist has seen some very good builds and results, Templar is revived (even for melee, though not physical), and occasionally we see a Marauder here and there (not doing great though). Last (and in this case also least) is the Scion, i havent yet seen any Scion on all the games i played. 1) Combination of trap gem with point blank gem and puncture is still OP. Then there is another source of 1hkos that is shotgunning spells like fireball in either cast when stunned setup or trap again with LMP. Cyclone > most other melee, molten strike used to be the same though now I feel people learned how to deal with molten. Tornado shot damage, or maybe bow damage in general.
I've seen at least one summoner scion and one melee scion. Melee was even doing okay |

Lots of the major issues and more favourable builds have been brought up here.
I would just like to add on why trappers have an extreme advantage on most maps. Most maps you can rush downwards, whomever gets there first generally gets to see their opponent first. In PoE, you can see much further up than looking down. So when a trapper gets to this corner position and throws his traps up, anyone going trying to advance on this trappers position is going to reveal themselves much before you can see the enemy trapper. This sets up perfect for their traps and lets them attack freely. I feel too many maps favour this position and cause wins, even against non trappers / other bow or hybrid characters, this position is too strong. I've lost many games due to this corner spot and have had ridiculous comebacks because I just blink shot to the corner and win from position. I feel the maps need to be more about left and right not up and down, this was stated from another poster before. Great idea. Cyclone / facebreakers / molten strike / tornado shot(not necessarily its damage atm but functionality) / traps are what I fight most of the time. Anyone with similar gear using molten strike / cyclone absolutely destroys me in a second or less lol, even with a ruby flask up for molten. I still feel like people die too fast and that a lot of the time actions don't matter, they just stall out the results. Potting skills can make a difference though at times. |

Cyclone, molten strike, point blank, counter attacks (and those are still not even fully explored), chill, traps on small desync maps (solaris mainly) 2.) What needs a buff? summoners and self casting spells that are not just freezing pluse. But they cant just buff the spells dmg as that would make traps op (I so want fireballs self cast.. damn fireball traps). Also ignite could need a buff, it is no where near chill or chock 3.) What are the most popular builds? cyclone/molten strike melee tornado shot/puncture (with a lot of traps for support) bow 4.) What needs to be fixed? blitz event! getting a trapper in a blitz event forces you to either play the careful 2min and maybe win the round and be totally behind in the tournament or rush and just die. would be much better if they would be remade to best of 1 mini swiss like event where everybody plays the same number of games. I don't think shorter rounds is what ppl want so making tournaments forcing rush up to opponent and kill him in the shortest time possible so you can move on to next round is not the right way to go. ffa: same problems as blitz but added cast on death, culling strike kill stealers, spawn campers, trap spamming spawn ponints and all that. No clue how that mode could be fixed though. many of the go to skills need more pvp dmg reduction 5.) How could the scene be improved? adding more lld uniques that are actually useful. would be nice if more pvpers would stream and bring back hybrid mod master crafting (any pvper pre 1.3 have those weapons, anyone trying to get into pvp after will have to pay silly prices for them) 6.) What classes need a rework? some might say templar but I think the lack of templars in pvp is just due to how hard it is to make a caster. Making good caster rings is insane, not even Elreon multi mod helps as it eats a suffix and casters need all the suffixes they can get. The only prefix a caster wants on a ring is life or es (and elreon -mana cost) rest would be better as suffixes so losing a suffix so would can decide what prefixes you want to add to the ring is not very amazing Edit: totally forgot the blink arrow is totally op with that cooldown (it gets even worse if the bower uses it with mirror arrow as well). I think that immediate fixes (nerfs) should be base bow dmg, cyclone damage, trap damage in general (especially LMP 1 shot ele traps), blink arrow cool down( multiple copy of blink/mirror)
Cyclone is probably the most abused and easiest abused skill in pvp right now. A 2h with cyclone has more effective defenses than a 1h shield and the damage output for such an efficient movement skill is unjustified - worse than 1.2 crit ungil wb also needing to be addressed (nerfs) are molten strike damage, heavy strike damage, buff block (a perf rearguard is only 12% less block than a fuckin shield?) ad, bruuhhh... there's soo much shit wrong with 1.3 it would take serious effort to find any positives in pvp right now. " agreed when moving out of combat its impossible to resynch yourself. This is a huge problem in modes like CTF while trying to catch flag runners and running the flag as well. The current desynch mechanism ruins the game for me. Most my builds would require the use of chayulla to play properly in 1.3 and most my builds cant handle the life/dps loss.
