Somehow I doubt the move will work if you just have a shield equipped. It'll be based on main hand wep or both weps for DW. So you can riposte with a weapon and a shield, because you are wielding a weapon to riposte with.

As for needing a sword.. that would be unfair to the other 1H users so it's forgivable.

Trying to understand how these new gems will help melees(or others aswell).

If i play melee :

-Helm => auras
-body armor => single target skill
-gloves & boots => aoe target skill & movement skill/curse
- 1h weapon + shield => 2x cwdt one with ec and one high lvl with ms + ic

WHERE THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO PUT THESE NEW "DEFENSIVE" GEMS????

first of all , they do not even deserve the " , just call them attack when blocked and attack when attacked "trigger" gems.Second : Whaaaat maate do you actually mean something players have complaint since ever rather than being fixed is being fucked more and more? No shits

Who said they're defensive gems? Read what they do...
I do like the wand skills
(more choice for wand attack)
Static strike, and two bow skills
Those bow skills are quite tricky and this need the player to decide how to use
But honestly, i do think the later 4 gems disapointed me hardly
Especially those 3 counter attack. They are just skillless, i think this game is designed to be skill-required, about how and when the decision is made.
Decision making is one of the most exciting part in the game, but i dont see these 3 auto-counter gems are in this case.
I really hope that these 3 gems can redesign to when the player press it, it would give a small duration like 5 seconds and in between those attacks on the player can counter hardly in certain chance, and give it a cooldown.

Just a suggestion and my feelings
Anyway, is great to see new gems

Edit :
I think those counter attacks can be like this
keep the original concept, and lower those counter attack dmg
add a second active feature to them when the player use it, give the player block chance buff(like 8%) for a short time or until the player block and counter attack back in higher damage
finally give it a cooldown which can be surpassed by enduring charge (like flicker strike)

*drool* I'm so tempted to try a 100% chaos damage build with Lightning Arrow, Physical to Lightning, and Voltaxic Rift now.....

Probably not actually a good idea given how low VR's flat physical is, but just the idea of never taking out anyone's ES is so appealing to me.

They can change several other things. Like more health per strenght, increased base armor of equips, add some implicit to armor items... So many options

I can't imagine any change which will be wise enough with current mechs.
More armour|eva on equip? That's a way down, game's gonna be too plain and simple - no need in combined and sophisticated mechanics, just get more armour|eva|HP (D3-style, huh). And still it works bad, armour is badly scaled to the mob dmg growth. And there's a a very hard way to get more eva|armour from witch for example. And finally it doesn't help against elemental|spell dmg.
I'd like to see more different mechanics and their combinations, but I just see as it goes more and more plain. Wanna go dodge? Then u shouldn't get armour and es, oh and block now. Wanna go block? Try to run over the whole tree to get noticeable changes - ehh, u wouldn't have enough points for something else, well, enjoy block at least! And so on...
Well, let everyone then join the club of stay_away_from_mob_pew_pew like current archers|doubletotems|srs|coc and be happy with that. I just kinda hope that Abaxoth will spawn much more frequently in the next league (due to announced blue packs affix) to see a lot of reeeeeeeeeeeps so that everyone would start to whine finally.
