Herald of Ice
incinerate is the best possible dps from herald. the flat damage thats given to spells is multiplied with incinerate. put chance to freeze nodes in this mix and u have a noncrit freeze machine that cant be stopped. Q added cold helps too ^^
the best part about putting herald of ice with incinerate...u have a spell that cannot crit yet u get the same mechanics as a full crit cold pcoc build. u have to invest probably 1/4 the passives into herald of ice (just freeze chance nodes) which is only 9 points to max out freeze chance potential. after that its a simple as pik any type of logical passive combination u wish. Jumping on the boat:
Does projectile support work for the shatter : faster or point blank for exemple. Somebody tried with knock back or stun? Could be hilarious! You ARE my Bitch of burden!

Does the explosion get triggered by shattering monsters using traps? Because after doing a bit of testing, it doesn't seem like it is.

" Yeah, good vid. Will reply in your BL thread. :) On-topic: just swapped in Cold to Fire for EP but needs lvl'ing to be effective, and may try other supports for testing. To other poster, how would Incin's increasing DoT mechanic interact with HoI, given Incin's 3 levels of damage output and HoI's dmg dealt at the explosion stage, after the initial mob has been shattered, i.e. "Added damage support gems such as Added Lightning Damage will be added to the explosion only."? all i talk below is the 'explosion' stuff. 'added cold' part is straightforward enough
One note - Herald of Ice effectiveness depends on initial hit damage (well, sort of). As it needs to have enough 'freezing' component (cold or lightning with 3Dragons) to freeze and shatter. Without it explosions simply dont happen and entire scheme is useless.. Herald of Ice has 20% effectiveness. and it hits once. thus i do not think that 'added chaos/lightning' typo of gems makes much sense. what makes sense is stuff that augments built in damage Cold To Fire. It double dips on: spell damage, elemental damage, area damage and cold damage. and it has no mana multiplier! most effective on end game chars due to double dip being the more effective the more passives are taken. Someone using Doryiani Calayst mace will get 110% inc cold damage, and then 50% of that already increased cold will get converted to fire and inreased by 110% fire again.. this stuff is seriously powerful when planned for. just like any conversion in elemental build. Cold penetration. 33% reduced mob resistance might mean up to 50% more damage. Never a bad choice - sadly it costs mana. Blind/chance to flee/Stun (with working - finally - stun threshold reduction for spells!). Utility stuff, no mana multiplier. Blind seems the strongest. Increased AOE/Conc Effect - matter of choice. HoI damage is low so making it 50% higher might be tempting. On the other hand for a build with already significant +AOE% like mine higher AOE means really big coverage. Matter of taste. Sadly both supports are rather expensive if I were to pick my favorite? Herald of Ice + RedMana + Cold To Fire. 3Link. simple, effective, cheap. perfect for spellcasters as their 'supplementing' aura. Last edited by sidtherat#1310 on Oct 1, 2014, 2:13:06 AM

" For me conc effect is no brainer if you have a lot of inc aoe on the character, especially after the 20% aoe boost for the skill. It hits once, as you said, may as well make it hit hard. Too bad it still can't compete with HOF, % damage will always be better than flat with such insane gear progression like in poe. They should have added it the ability to crit. Oh wait they can't, because CoC exists. CoC is why we can't have nice things, lol. IGNs GroovyBeard JooJooFromTheWell Last edited by Allnamestaken#7661 on Oct 1, 2014, 4:23:01 AM

" Conversion does not double dip like that. A converted damage source will simply allow increased modifiers from the new source as well, but it does not turn 'increased' into 'more'. For example with doryani: there will be no double dip as the elemental damage is already added in the conversion. Only if you have fire dmg passsives will the converted damage be increased further. |

if u dont crit with HoI u need chance to freeze passives and alot of attack speed or cast speed. basically u need to supplement this skill with alot of fast skills. if u can and have high aps 5+ HoI becomes very potent mechanic u can use towards survivability that no other skill has the potential of competing with. the explosions with witch 3 aoe passives and some freeze chance will proliferate ur freeze to everything!!
best combination i have come up with so far is max block. 4L Tempest Shield, HoI, Elemental Proliferation, Reduced Mana. if u can sustain high aps with spells or any attack--chance to freeze passives--will insure u are able to freeze and shock everything possible. the 2 skills HoI and tempest shield have so much synergy between the 2 theres nothing u can do wrong maximizing the possibilities of both. I'm going to give a solid answer, and ask a solid question here.
Answer: Common misconception with Herald of Ice skill, and questions about it all the time: Skill is in fact 2 SEPARATE SKILLS! 1. EXPLOSION DAMAGE First, the part that is affected by damage effectiveness, elemental profil, and everything else you can think of that can be added as a support. Thus, damage conversion will change the value to fire, since Herald of Ice is the active skill doing damage. It can be scaled with spell damage, supported, and done EVERYTHING about, just like a regular spell. In fact, it can be treated as an regular spell, but only cast on kill. 2. ADDED DAMAGE TO SPELLS/ATTACKS It can be treated like a GLOBAL ADDED COLD SUPPORT GEM. It works that way - if you turn Herald of Ice on, EVERY skill you have in your setup will get "ADDED COLD DAMAGE SUPPORT GEM". From the very nature of support gems IT CANNOT BE SUPPORTED WITH ANYTHING. Thus, even if you get Avatar of Fire, or any time of conversion, Herald of Ice will show "I'M ADDING X COLD DAMAGE", and conversion is done "ON SKILL" you are going to use. Hope it helps. :) And to my question: How does quality of this gem work? Is it local (Increasing explosion damage? Added cold damage to spells/attacks? Both?) or is it global? (Increasing damage from, say, Windrippers base damage?). There are 4 options (I think): 1. It only works on Explosion damage 2. It only works on Added Damage 3. It works for Explosion AND Added Damage 4. It works globally, thus working on Explosion, Added Damage AND any other source of Cold damage. I'm close to lvling up my Herald of Ice to lvl 20, and I will answer this question, unless someone already did. I can be tested by having 2 Herald of Ice gems (q0 and q20), and weapon which does base ice damage, to see if damage will increase more with weapon on. Quality on Heralds is part of the Buff; it's a global modifier. Ash's Quality even applies to Spells.
