Lightning Buzzsaw CoC
Heya,
Thanks for the reply, I thought it would have been explored and that is why it was not being used. Cheers :) |

For me Arc + fireball it's better then freeze pulse+arc =)
Because freeze do a high damage only in the shotgun effect, fireball will cross the screen and do same damage and burn. When you use Herald of Ice you dont need a freeze status. I will try arc + freeze + ice spear (Need to level that) for real, i did not like Arctic Breath in general after pass level 80. |

Heya, im thinking of remaking my lvl 78 ranger on Beyond league into this spec.
Is it best to go with arc / lightning ball / lightpen ? ive got all of theese gems lvld. Since its a hardcore league, i should prioritize cloak of defiane right? over a tabula. What changes would you do to play this spec in HC? IGN: PeaCocc - Talisman SC League

" I'm not playing Hardcore, but the tree Mathil has can get into the Acrobatics Cluster in just 3 points, and that's what I've done. It'll make sustaining AA a bit tougher, since it halves your ES, but if you can work around that, then it's a nice additional survivability boost that works really well with the high Evasion this build should be getting towards end-game. The real reason I went Acrobatics is that it's less gear dependent than going Cloak of Defiance, since getting a 6L, or even a 5L is still a huge pain in the ass, where-as a Tabula is easy, but if you can find a way to do both, then you ought to be very hard to kill. You can also get an extra 20% life by taking either the Thick Skin life cluster near the Ranger start, or the Written in Blood cluster near the Shadow start. Both are quite point efficient options. Another tip, which is a bit more obvious is to stick to a single element for your spells. A lot of people are enjoying Freeze Pulse + Arc or Ball Lightning or whatever, but mixing elements would mean that you'd need two Purity Auras to ensure you're immune to reflect, but by focusing on a single Element then you can make yourself immune to reflect with just a single aura. Another option if you want to boost survivability is to try using Cold Spells instead of Lightning. I've been using Ice Spear, and the second stage has a 95% crit chanch. With a level 19 gem I manage to freeze locks all White/Blue/Rare mobs up to level 73 maps so far, and even manages to freeze lock a number of Rogue Exiles and Bosses. Probably need a level 21 gem and a bit more Crit Multi to really take advantage of boss freezing though, and I haven't really been able to test how effective the freeze is on 75+ maps, since I just don't have the maps yet. Either way, the short answer is there's a lot of way you can try to make this build more tanky, if that's what you're after. |

About the helmet, could it be better Rat's Nest than Starkonja's Head?

5L COD or Tabula Rasa?
I'm also having trouble justifying going lightning over cold since Arc doesn't benefit from the GMP we already have in the setup, where cold skills has much more flexibility. Am I missing something that makes Arc so good here? |

" I've used this setup, and I have been impressed by the damage output of a CoC'd arc... but I'm with you. I can't figure out where all the damage is coming from. Does arc hit harder when it's cast from a CoC for some reason? Would it be just as effective to directly cast arc with a bunch of support gems for it? Or maybe you just crit co much with ST that you can get more Arc going? Last edited by Trophy_Machine#7968 on Sep 9, 2014, 1:21:54 AM

Hey Mathil, I thought about the changes you mentioned in your last video in the passive tree (switching the mana / manaregen nodes in the witch starting area).
How much mana regen do we need? At the moment Ive got 270. A level 20 arcic armour drains 229 at lvl 20 (239 at lvl21) while moving... I dont exactly now how to reach ~230 regen if I drop the 60% from the nodes. Since I play this as a shadow I cant just take the 40% node :( All "good" sources on the gear are drained (last one would be shield but then I would loose a bunch of spell dmg, or a dagger - and this one must be found first im afraid) Mana is an issue too. With all auras running Ive got 570 mana left. Since the nodes Im talking about give us a bnuch of mana, I dont know how much mana I would drop for the spell dmg nodes. Neither do I know how much mana is necessary to run this buiild without too many troubles... Do you know more about this numbers, or do I have to try (and waste 22 regrets in case it wont work out :D) |

" I haven't run any numbers or tested it myself yet. I have something like 260 regen on my standard char as well and given how I don't really like running half regen maps I typically roll over them, which means a lot of that regen is mostly overkill. I feel I should be able to lose some of it in favour of nicer passives. Yea, witch has a vast benefit over shadow for this idea because you can spend 1 pt for 40% regen. I think it'll work out either starting point as long as you're getting mana regen % on rings, amulet, shield. I'm leveling a Witch on Rampage and just swapped to my CoC gear at 67 to get this going. I can probably let you know in a few days if it was a good idea. A list of all my builds and guides - http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1099189
