Oh, PLEASE... make selectively clicking on an enemy optional

I come from a Dungeon Siege background (1 & 2, not 3; it's crap) and when getting overrun by enemies one of the nice elements of the attack mode of DS is that you don't feel like you're fighting with the game mechanics selecting enemies to fight... you simply keep your attack mouse button held down (right mouse button in DS) and float the mouse cursor over the enemy you want to attack; the character automatically focuses on that new enemy.

This way, there's no releasing the attack button, thus having your character stop attacking while you spend a moment or two clicking on the enemy you want to attack and then continuing with the battle.

I know not all players will enjoy this, so it would seem so simple to make this a game option. Maybe call it something like "mouse hover attack mode".

Anyway, this makes game play much more smooth for me during battles.

Thanks for listening.

Diablo II had a similar feature known as "right-click driving" (though it was undocumented and few people seem to have known about it), where if you selected a melee attack on right-click, and right-clicked the ground (empty space), you would move, attack, kill, and move on, all without lifting the button.

This is my #1 request for the game at the moment. Hands down. Full support.

Unfortunately, the thread I made on the subject didn't seem to get much attention...

agreed, combat vs multiply monsters is a lot easier with that mechanic

I totally support this idea! I find myself trying to do this all the time in PoE, and it's very frustrating when it doesn't work and I have to resort to clicking on each target.

This is a fantastic suggestion! Hope the Dev's see it :)
Try holding shift, attacking the ground with the button held down, then move to a target. Don't release either shift or the attack key. I believe this will replicate the effect you are looking for. Does it?
How do you move while holding Shift? When you hold Shift, you stand still and attack, whether you attack a creature or air.

Also, in my experience, it just doesn't work. Unless you have name-lock, attacks rarely seem to actually register. Same for trying to right-click the ground currently: you move to that point and attack. In theory, if something was there, you'd attack it. In practice, that doesn't seem to happen (nor is it a particularly convenient method for doing this anyway).

First, I agree with the OP. This would be a great feature to add.

Second, to address your example of holding shift and attacking the ground and then the target.
-- It doesn't work very well. It does seem to work if you're standing right next to the monster, but even then, sometimes you'll be swinging in the air. Maybe diagonal opponent doesn't hit, but directly horiz or vert opponent does? More often then not, the targets will be catty-corner to you.

Agreed +1
