[1.3] The Crit Philosopher - CI Crit Cold Witch - Freezing Pulse, PCoC & Echo
some days ago... rngjesus gave me a 6 Link when i tried to get a better 5L Armour :) wohooo
now i am testing 6Link with following setup FP-LMP-LL-PCOC-ECHO & Cold Penetration with quality FP-LMP-LL-PCOC-ECHO & Inc. Dmg with quality If you are playing in groups its definitly necessary to get 6 Link.. it will give you way more clear speed against cold resistent mobs.. so far my short experience :) screen dps doesnt change btw :p My next steps are: - getting gems up to lvl 20 :) they are nearly lvl 19 with quality from 10 up to 20. (If you are starting with this build try to get those gems with quality its way cheaper then orbing them with gcps later) - Get more blocking nodes: Having around 40% phys block and 34% spell block with Tempest Shield. I want to try to push them with block nodes up to 50-60. Maybe i have to drop tempest Shield and some mana nodes for that goal ? I'll post later my gear and my passive tree which will go up to lvl 90. - get a eye of chayula with add curse and play with cwdt+ele weakness+frostbite and inc. ae Greetings Disco :) Last edited by PathOfDisco#5969 on Sep 19, 2014, 10:45:56 AM

Update - Now lvl 83 (woot)
I got a new wand, changed around my tree a bit and now running a lvl 15 artic armor and herald of ice. I've always wanted to be immune to flame dogs & docks, now i am. In fact i can just stand in the flames and tempest shield kills them for me, including the boss. Dominus totally farmable, decoying single targets with spell totem > skels solved my bleed issue. This build can do some nasty mods and survive, started a lvl 75 map , - max res, vunerabilty, 50% regen. 1/2 party ripped instantly, by the end there was 2. currupting blood got the other guy and i was last one standing ;D updated tree / wand

there are 2 specs i want to test:
First Spec with Whispers of Doom - running a tri-curser (including eye of chayula corrupted) with a low level cast when damage taken (elemental weakness + frostbite & enfeeble or assassins mark) Second Spec with more Increased Cold Damage (+71% and 2% penetration) nodes: I guess first spec is little more defense and are only playable with some of the recommended items. Woo, long time no see!
" Incredible gear! I hope you're 68 by now and you can fully unlock the power of the build using those items! I've never had a 6L (besides Tabula) ;_; " Everyone is getting a 6L, so good vibe around here! You're right, damage seems a little low if you're partying up, but I usually replace Life Leech for Empower and it really helps. Usually I run with IIQ instead lol Getting all your gems to 20/20 by leveling is really good. The only gems that are not worth leveling more than 20 are Auras and maybe, just maybe, curses. I'm currently at 44% chance to block attacks and 46% to block spells, is awesome. Tempest Shield and Herald of Ice synergize so well that enemies get frozen if you're blocking :D " Indeed, you can run some nasty mods and survive! Yesterday we were running a Ele Weakness + Ele Reflect Map and I was the last one standing! But please, don't ever attempt this combo. It is possible, but slow as hell as well as dangerous lol And yeah, Tempest/Herald is incredibly good. Gonna point that out later this week in the original post :D " I don't know about the tri-curser. It is indeed a nice idea, but Curse Immunity mobs and map mod are quite common. The second spec looks nice, because of the cold pen mostly. I don't like too many 'increased' nodes because of their diminished returns. Cast speed or Crit Multi (more multipliers) are preferrable IMO. Anyway, with your 6L, everything is possible now lol. Thank you very much for sharing your builds with us, guys! In other news, I've updated the first post with some Hideout/Masters information. As usual, there's the tldr version as well as a detailed explanation. Next update will cover some 'advanced' tips and techniques like choosing between curses depending the situation and if you're partying up. Stay tuned! :) IGN: DylanRyder

Late game build ideas:
1) Inner Force? 2) Run the gambit to the 10% mana reduction in the Charisma cluster? FYI, Alpha's has me almost able to run Tempest, HoI, Disc, Clarity, and Elements. Any thoughts on a better setup? I'm wondering if when I can drop Elements I should drop HoI and run Haste Last edited by jaredh#4053 on Sep 23, 2014, 1:28:36 PM

" I'm currently at 88, and am focusing fully on block nodes. Inner Force is kinda far away from me :( I suppose getting more aura nodes would be wise. You'll get some stats on your way. As of Dropping Elements, I would agree. I wouldn't drop HoI, its synergy with Tempest Shield is massive: freezing mobs on block is pretty useful. With some extra aura nodes maybe, just MAYBE you'll be able to run haste. It would be massive dps increase. By that time I'd get something like this would be like level 95 or so lol IGN: DylanRyder

" Hi Shiranui3489. I guess your next step is to get a 6L. ES is good but could also improve. I really like your wand, maybe getting higher rolls could be an option, but all the mods are sweet! -- Now, the next update: FINALLY got my 6L :D I've been trying with 20/20 Added Lightning as the sixth link and is working wonders. I'm also leveling an Increased Crit Damage gem so I can be able to test it. I'm also creating an updated version of the DPS Calculations sheet, so I'll update and notify when it's done. As for the advanced FAQ, I've come up with some feedback for party play, and also build synergies to greatly improve the dps output. Additional masters information will be available soon (tm). After the death of my L90 Ranger in Beyond I've decided to try my best at making a strong Freezing Pulse build that does not feel underwhelming, which I believe it has felt like since the change of leech.
I'm going to use the 2H staff Taryn's Shiver since it's one of my absolute favorite unique items as well as a strong option. Some people disagree on this, saying 1h + shield is better. And sure, in many regards it is. However I do not play this game JUST to make everything as efficient as it could be, but also to do what I personally think is fun. :) Another factor regarding the choice of using a Taryn's Shiver is that I am going to use a Lightning coil which would be far to difficult to get the correct colours on in a 5L/6L. If I had a 5L Cloak of Defiance though, I would have most likely gone with 1h+shield. However since I already have a Taryn's and a Lightning coil.. All right. So I've made a basic passive tree for this, I haven't fully optimized it yet since there are still a lot to be tested, after all its been over a year since I played a cold caster. But the idea is there all right: get power charges, high crit and crit multi, Whispers of Doom (for dual curse), vaal pact and EB for sustaining mana. I will link the passive tree when I get home from school sometime next week. The auras I've decided on using are: Discipline, Purity of Lightning, Herald of Ice and Clarity. Now there is a slight problem with this build, since its using a 2H and have no slot for a shield, using both an amulet+gloves without resistances AND a Lightning coil which gives negative resistance its going to be a bit hard to cap resand get a decent amount of life on the items. However something that has greatly helped me so far getting adequate rares is master crafting, without it this build would've probably been too expensive for me to create in Beyond as I've got a low budget due to my death. I'm currently in the leveling stage and have only hit L47 yet. And due to studying I have to do right now the progress will be a bit slow for a couple of days at least. Either way, here are some of the items I've already gathered. + Maligaro's Virtuosity For the boots and helm I will use high ES pieces to gain enough mana for me to sustain AA and the casting of FP. 5L: Freezing Pulse + GMP + Spell Echo + PCOC + Life leech 6L: Crit multi/Empower I'm thinking Empower might be good since a L21 FP in a Taryn's linked with L3 Empower will hit L24. I have not done the calculations yet though. And yes, I will in the future when I can afford dropping flat life get the Doryani's Invitation belt instead. If this build works out well I'll probably make my own guide for it, but as of now its still in the testing stages. What do you guys think? Last edited by jeppesu#6327 on Oct 1, 2014, 12:45:47 AM

So I figured I would show off my version of this build since they are pretty similar but different enough I feel.
How I play
Spoiler
So basically my build hits like a truck. I have 53k Damage (before curse) and 5,750 energy shield. I have a base 92% magic find and I swap to my culling strike to add an additional 56%. I use BL+COH+GMP+AM to curse entire rooms before going in and cleaning up. Because this method is so strong I maintain my power chargers without running PCOC. I use blood rage to gain that extra 9% Cast speed with no penalty. I use spell totem skeletons with vaal skeletons as a distraction. This character has all Surgeons flasks. With how fast I'm casting and my 65% crit chance they are pretty much always up. I run a cold flask to help reduce some of the reflect damage and enduring cry to help with physical damage. This is only the second character I've ever made in this game so I'm still sort of learning the ropes. I have never fought Atziri but I intend to give it a shot soon. Passive tree: Gear:
