I really want to take PoE seriously

Yeah, not part of this game's design. So what's with all the offensive nodes in the skill web? Just eye candy?

Largely eye candy and noob traps, yes.

Not saying you can't splurge on a few as you work through the tree (often better than stats, at least), or pick up a great offensive keystones. The basic mechanics of the game require you to heavily invest defensively, due to the way gear scales with defensive passives, and the sheer amount of damage that you'll encounter as you progress through the game.

A lot of this damage COULD be avoided, except that the prediction model is S-H-I-T.

Don't disagree, but again, part of the design. The man in charge says desync is required and rubberbanding is good.

Then the man in charge completely neglects the quality and dependability of gameplay. I mean it's not any better when you're investing a ton into defense, it's just that you die less, but it still feels completely stupid and random.

Anyway, my OP was already partially censored so I'm not going to go any further, but suffice to say, yes I really WANT to take this game seriously, but I can't.

And the fact that Chris feels obligated to justify this with convoluted multi-page essays is a pretty telltale sign in and of itself.

Quality and dependability of gameplay are secondary to integrity of the economy. The devs won't trust the client to handle anything, so you're always playing a loose approximation of the game happening on the server, instead of playing the game itself. Unless they're willing to give the client a bit of trust, gameplay will always suffer. If they do give the client some trust, then the economy could suffer through exploits. Economy > Gameplay.

You better use smoke mine for boxes, if you cant use a skill that can bypass mobs like light. warp, whirling blades, leap slam...

Exactly what I do, or use..
Still, rubber-Band like a mofo..
Especially with Whirling Blades, dash out 2-3 clicks only to snap back into a mob and die..

We're playing a fast paced ARPG where running through packs of mobs = rubberband and that's acceptable design in the community's eyes. LOL. How low can your standards get?

Desync or lag or whatever you want to call it.. is part of POE.. like most online games.
Sad but True..

And that right there sums up why the "new gen" ARPGs are destined to be mediocre crap at best. Great philosophy.

edit: Redacted -- just scanned OP's forum post history. Not gonna waste my time. Clearly not someone who 'really wants' to take PoE seriously, and hasn't wanted to for a while now.
And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

Just because you wear rose-tinted glasses on a daily basis doesn't mean other people are mean, Charan. I would love PoE to be the definitive new ARPG that I can get all my friends into. But it's not, and has no ambition to be. I have already done enough promotion for this game for someone who doesn't stand to benefit from it, and right now I almost feel bad for hyping this game to people who usually trust my judgement and who I've pretty much sold a dud to, hoping desync would actually be addressed.

I mean really, we're how many years in now? And what exactly is the progress on desync?

So again, who isn't interested in having a great game here? Me or the people handling the netcode? Save your moral high ground bullshit for someone else.
