RE: Jeweler's Orb.
I think pulling this out was a mistake. Not a bad one, being able to reroll an items slots is kind of important in this game. I feel your goal would be better served by adding a single new currency item and changing what Jeweler's Orb does. Make the Jeweler's Orb reroll the number and type of sockets, removing links as needed when sockets are removed through this process. Then introduce a "Linking Orb" that will roll for links between slots. This provides the desired random factor while still giving control to the player and not making things too much of a hassle. |

" This is sorta what they're doing - the differences are just that (1) the deleting of existing jeweler's orbs, which is kind of a moot point (and I'm not even sure they aren't going to be folded in as one of the three currency items they mentioned) with all the old characters and stashes getting moved to legacy leagues, and (2) three different currency items instead of two. I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out. Heard its twisted dreamed inanity In a whisper, in a shout. In the babbling cacophony The refrains are all the same: "[permutations of humanity] are unworthy of the name!" |

The reason I brought it up was that you don't really need three currency items to do this, unless the third is just going to change socket color, which... I don't know it just seems unnecessary.
On one hand, once you have your desired socket constellation, being able to swap the colors independently of it's links or number is desirable. On the other, it seems like it gives a lot of control to the player over the number and type of sockets, which I see as somewhat running contrary to the reason they're making currency items as random as they are. There are only so many configurations for just color, which is a much smaller number than the number of mods that it'll be really easy to use an "Enameler's Orb" (Enameling does really sound like the closest thing to a socket color-switch item, and is much shorter) to get the colors you want. It could be solved by making it of similar rarity to the Regal Orb, but I don't play the game, I'm simply making observations and suggestions that I feel need be made, so in play my opinion could very well change. |

" Without playing the beta, you wouldn't understand... but this is an amazing change. With the current system all you get is massive frustration and hundreds of jeweler's orbs spent without even getting what you wanted sometimes. It's still going to be pretty random trying to reroll 6 sockets' colors hoping all turn into one color, or the amount hoping it'll turn to 6... I think it's one of the best changes on the list. I wanna see the new passive skill tree so bad I could reboot my computer.
I am a poor freezingly cold soul
So far from where I intended to go |

"I'm aware, and agree, that that sounds incredibly frustrating. I'm also aware of how much bias I possess by simple virtue of not playing the game, I admit such. I mean much of my post was pointing out the flaws, and then solving them with the "third" socketing currency item. I have no investment in either path, but I still feel that they are points that I feel my insight into the potential is beneficial for the devs. Having written it down, and thought about it, including a rare or semi-rare item that changes just socket color is simply more elegant game design for this than having it as part of another random function. Personally, I'd still have the Jeweler's Orb shuffle colors, you might get lucky and get something you can use or want without needing the "Enameler's Orb", because that fits with the design of the Orb of Transformation/Change and the Chaos Sphere. Either way I see little reason in changing the Jeweler's Orb significantly to remove it. Last edited by Zeful#0381 on Sep 30, 2011, 12:59:08 AM

The monster difficulty reminds me of some mobs in Diablo 2 like for example Black Souls or Dolls, which were a pain in the ass on hell.
I'm sure there will be some mobs in POE which everyone would hate too =) I'm also interested in the passive tree,hope the skills will kill ass :) It's nice too see that the open beta is in sight. I want to play the game so hard =) |
