[Official] WINE info thread
I'm having some problems after trying to use Linux to play PoE. Due to crashes in Windows 7 we decided to try running it in Linux to hopefully avoid whatever mysterious errors are causing the crashes. It's not the creative issue as I'm not running that software and none of the suggestions helped. And I want to play! So I'm trying to use an OS that I'm unfamiliar with, Ubuntu, and while I've followed instructions as best I can it's not running.
When I attempt to run PoE the Client.exe fails and I get two errors, one telling me Client.exe can't run and the PlayOnLinux error telling me Wine has crashed. When I look at the logs it's a page fault. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Keep in mind I'm very new to Linux. I followed the guide that was posted step by step and it's not running. Any assistance would be appreciated. I'm probably not giving enough info but that's because I don't know what info is needed. Anyone that attempts to assist me, please speak to me like you would speak to your computer illiterate parent, step by step and assuming I'm wide-eyed and confused. Because I am. Thank you so much to anyone who accepts the challenge! |

If you click the Debug link to the right instead of the "Run" button/link it will pop up a debug window with a lot more information. The timestamp is the most recent run, then anything below it is part of that run. There is also a Client.txt file produced in the "logs" folder for Path of Exile. That might contain some information as well.
If you could also post all your system spec, it could be helpful in determining what's going on. What version of Wine are you using, distro, cpu, memory, video card, sound card, etc. Hopefully something there will give some ideas as to what's going on. |

I was able to install, run, and patch PoE successfully using the standard download off the website. However, when running, everything is fine except one major problem: the position of the displayed cursor is the same position of my mouse, but the position of the action is about 2 inches below and 5 inches to the right of that. Therefore, I am unable to click on the buttons on the left side of the screen.
I am on Ubuntu 12.10 running Wine 1.5.27. If you need any more information to help me solve this issue, I can provide it. Edit: I just installed vcrun2010 and usp10, and that made it WORSE and unplayable. Help! Last edited by AdmiralMemo#0881 on May 7, 2013, 3:16:53 PM

" I'd probably try adjusting the various options in the settings screen for PoE such as resolution, windowed/fullscreen, etc. What graphics card and driver version are you using? Anything other than a decent discrete Nvidia card with the latest proprietary driver is just asking for trouble at this point in time. |
|
I have that problem if I use the Windowed/Maximized setting rather than just Windowed or just Fullscreen.
If you want to go fullscreen, then go "fullscreen".. otherwise use an actual windowed size. The Windowed-Maximized setting seems to ignore the taskbar or something causing the offset to be strange. |
|
If you want to play in what is technically a windowed mode, I suggest opening winecfg, going to the Graphics tab, enabling virtual desktop emulation, and setting the desktop size to you want the game client size to be. Then, in the game itself, change to fullscreen mode.

" If you have an Nvidia graphics card, you need the latest proprietary driver package installed: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us If Intel graphics (GMA series) sorry to say you are out of luck. |

I have this problem when I try to start up PoE for the first time. When it is at the "grinding gear games" loading screen, the loading takes a while, and then a box pops up. It says "Audio/Sound Effects/Skills/Flaming_Wrath/Huge_02.ogg": Unable to create a buffer: 40963. After clicking ok, the same box pops up 3 more times... And finally the entire client closes out. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?
I would really appreciate it as I really want to play this game. It would suck if I can't fix this problem :/ |

" Does it work if you add --nosound to your startup arguments for PoE? If so, what about trying with -swa? |
