How to enjoy and not endure Path of Exile in 10 steps

This should be stickied.
I think any game that needs to have a "how to enjoy..." thread needs to be doing something better if they want long-term success. Or perhaps, sort of like the OP suggests, GGG can just reduce their own expectations of success.

Petrov.
So, basically:

* dont try to finish your build
* accept technical issues that make the game unplayable
* avoid difficult content
* expect to not experience content
* expect garbage looting
* for the love of god, don't craft!

Sounds about right...

Most people are already enjoying PoE, they don't need a guide. They are busy playing the game and not whining in the forums.

Op is right.

Despite his post being a subtil attempt at passing his frustration about these issues,
if taken LTTERALLY, every one of his posts are RIGHT.

When I play, I do every single one of his points. (except 6, which I do for fun only) Thats how I play. And everything he says is true.
Basically, dont expect too much and you wont be dissapointed.
Adapt to these facts, and enjoy what is there.

For example, there is no way to get godly items in this game (the drops are always unrewarding, the drop rates of currency are too low to ever be able to buy one, and the crafting randomness makes it impossible) so I dont try, nor expect, to have one. I just use the best of what falls, and when I get a crapload of smaller currency (like a hudred alterations, a dozen alchemy, or a few chaos) I will try to craft a good peice of BLUE gear (with alterations) or buy a useful gem necessary for my build (with a few alch or chaos)

I've learned fast that expecting anything good from the crafting or the drops in this game is conterproductive. Its just a HUGE waste of your time. Might as well just have fun instead.

Closed beta supporter. I was sitting here thinking the OP came close to getting it right, but I think this is more accurate and to the point. Given your length of stay in Exile I put more weight behind close beta supporters comments too, because you've seen more than most of us.

Hopefully they have many 1,000,000 GPH bilge pumps in this ship.

* dont try to finish your build - Plan your build around a max level of 70
* accept technical issues that make the game unplayable - accept it yes and either dont get attached to your hardcore character or play softcore. This is really unfair for hardcore characters I admit. I've settled to playing only in softcore leagues. Hardore is unfair and therefore not fun.
* avoid difficult content - you dont have to. Just dont expect it to be anything more than the same thing, just harder. It can be fun for the laugh and OPness of it.
* expect to not experience content - When it comes to the Atziri engame map, yes, exactly.
* expect garbage looting - yes, exactly.
* for the love of god, don't craft! - Yes, exactly.

This seems fairly accurate. In addition to the last two points I'd add:
* prepare to browse out-of-game indexer and forums instead of actually playing the game if you need new gear
I actually apply OP's "rules for enjoyment" to my real life.

If you start every day on the basis that life is a series of disappointments, then one can live a truly rewarding and enriching existence in any circumstance. Adaptable lot, humans.
