Hi, wanted to say thanks for the amazing build. Being 87 Gladiator right now.

In general this build has two weakspots if it has any:
- movement is key to everything and we suffer the malus from anvil.
- singletarget dps is mediocre.

Movement speed boots are imperative. Arent they always though...

I made a couple of tweaks to tune the build to a masterpiece for my own liking. I had tried static strike, ice crash, earthquake, hybrid options. Final judgement of perfection is using

4L - Heavy strike-MPD-Multistrike-AFD
+
5/6L - Sunder-MPD-ConcE-increasedAoE-AFD-(FA)

The beauty of it -
has the perfect synergy with heavy strike, costs very little ~ 1-10chaos, offers 260+ pDps.

From experience i can say only auras I ever used was Hatred or HoA + Blasphemy/Warlord. I never had to use determination, i can facetank a LOT and those few dangerous things that are risky i can kite with sunder (like fully buffed merciless Izaro and . . . some very nasty combination rolls on maps e.g. t10 chateau, t11 precinct). I tried golems and imho, unless you run a cwdt-summon, might also not bother with it. Doesnt live long, doesnt offer much, makes you bother to resummon. I run vaal molten shell and immortal call, i got to lvl 87 and used the shell maybe twice and never actually used immortal call at all unless i clicked it accidentally lol. In short you have the extra 4L to roll heavy strike without any real sacrifices.

Another tweak - I cannot recommend Violent Retaliation. There is no issue with non beefy mobs at all, only single target dps against beefier enemies/bosses needs improvement. VR provides you with 2% block that you dont need anymore (assuming you take that on merciless labyrinth), we already have 78% block, it jsut goes to waste. Against single target you get on average 4-5 stacks of VR. So in total you have 5% attack speed and 16-20% damage boost. If you go Outmatch Outlast you gain frenzy on kill only, offering you nothing to improve anti-boss-performance but 5% attack speed and 15% damage boost from previous point. Clear winner, by a gigantic margin is Gratuituos Violence. Because you get 5% attack speed + 10% damage + 25% chance to bleed - applying dot + another 30% damage against bleeding targets. You can be absolutely sure the bosses will bleed all the time, so your damage taking this path is highest. Your sunderkiting options become vastly improved too, because bosses that run after you take 60% bleed damage instead of jsut 10% when they stand still. Additionally enemies explode, making sundering packs very gory and extremely efficient and fast. (and you can improve the performance even more by taking bloodletting node!!!)

I have not spent a single passive into endurance charges, but took the one from oak. I cant say i lack survival, i have too much of it. I can run maps with any rolls unless they combo too badly. I would avoid only blood magic per se, because auras are important.

You should call this build the Honey Badger. Playing it you really dont care about much. Its just so absolute.

Final things i came to discover highly relevant:
- get boots with move and enchant intelligence with catarina (or the other way round)
- get a ring with both high intelligence and dexterity.
Doing that you dont need neither a passive into 30 dex nor into 30 int.

Honey Badger Gladiator rules. In T11 maps things die very fast, all bosses are doable, 99% map mods are nobrainer. Havent gotten to t12+ yet, but the issue is getting the maps, not running them. Thanks again, enjoying the ride.

TLDR: 4L - Heavy strike + 5/6L - Sunder is an amazing combo. Callinellus is a great super cheap mace. Take Gratuituos Violence .. no matter how I look at it GV always wins over OO or VR tbh.

Overall i agree, and have found a lot of these things to be true for me as well. I personally run HoA and Hatred and I run tempest shield with curse on hit warlords mark.

Sunder is just amazing against packs. It's absolutely insane. Bosses that spawn a lot of enemies like the jungle valley spider also die incredibly fast if they're in a group of spawns.

The one goofy thing i've found about violent retaliation is some bosses that cast big aoe skills/skills that hit very fast like ball lightning, the stacks get really high, I've gotten 45+ a few times. But I do want to try Gratuitous Violence to see if it makes a huge effect. I also run abyssal cry which is nice since you can leap slam into a big group, and even enemies behind you die because they get clipped by everything.

And yea I just havent bothered with the golem. I've only really used immortal call against Atziri so i just swap it out usually.
hey guys, little update of my Gladiator

finally got my Aegis, payed 100chaos for it and now trying to build currency up again for upcoming Upgrades.

Nope, there's no way to cap spell block if you don't play as Gladiator.

Hi, I started this build today and have gone with Static Strike so far. Would you recommend a different attack for a group-oriented build?

Thanks for your efforts :)

Infernal Blow is quite useful as it takes care of corpses, which are often a nuisance or a threat (Necrovigil magic mobs, detonated dead boxes, necromancers etc). But if you find you're lacking DPS with it, go with Ice Crash or Earthquake.

what 1 hand mace could be usefull to lvl up? i m lvl 40

ty
IGN:Sirdec
at lvl40... doesn't really matter which weapon, just get damage or mods you're lacking ;)

I'm trying my first block build and use this mace at lvl50:

Don't have any trouble but I just had a look into poe.trade and realized that this mace is kinda "meh" and I can get a better one for 1-3c... lol

Different question: what about molten strike?
It doesn't get mentioned here and I used it from start and somehow... I don't feel like changing to another skill. Earthquake seems slow and static strike has less dps (at least for me)
Anything I miss with molten strike? will it be inferior later?
(currenty looking for life on hit because it hits a lot with those orbs)

Hi.

I am thinking about to start this build since I am already bored with my 80+ necromancer. I play PoE for a very long time and the Duelist was always my favorite. However, I dont need to tell you how it was with melee characters in the past and why almost noone played them. But now it looks like that with the Ascendancy passives the melees are stronger by a lot.

My only concern with melee's in this game was always that melee is not really a melee if you know what I mean. I really hate to use half screen covering AoE skills which destroys screen by screen, thats not how a melee should work in my opinion but thats just me. Melee's should face their threats face to face :-) Like Gladiators. You got my point, good... lets move on.

So looking at the skills you are suggesting like Earthquake and Ice Crash which for me comes completely out of the question, I dont know what skills are left to use. Could be a Double Strike viable ? Never used Static Strike, how about that ? Or maybe something else ? I am not saying that I want to kill monsters one by one, but if I want to play melee than I mean I really want to play melee.
hello im level 82 right now with this build and its pretty epic but i have a question. right now im using lioneyes remorse instead of aegis it gives me 8k armor and i have 15k armor with it. i plan on buying an aegis but i will lose A LOT of armor and around 200 hp AND right now i have 26 es from random equipment and even with aegis ill probably have 150-200. how and why is it worth refilling 150-200 es instead of having 8k more armor?the hits you take will deal at least 1k damage to you anyways. i read ur explanation about aegis in the guide but i still dont really get why this shield is that good.
