To maximize dps, the best nods are Elemental Damage/Fire Damage because they boost both direct damage and burning damage.

Otherwise, Faster Casting Nods and Spell damage nods are also good passives to pick up.

Last choice are burning damage nods because as you'll see in the videos, the direct damage of the build is so high that you don't need much burning damage to finish off monsters except against bosses or when partying.


For this reason, I recommend the 8% and 18% of this Fire Damage Cluster but not the 10% burning damage nods. There are 3x8% nods and 1x18% nod. So, on average, each nod provide 10.5%. So, its not much better than the 10% elemental damage nods of the Shadow starting area or the 12%,8%,10% elemental damage nods of the Templar starting area, which both lead to other nice passives : 2x16% spell damage nods and 1x40% mana regen nod respectively. And that's the reason why I decided to pick up those passives instead of the Fire damage cluster passives.

When im using Ethereal Knives and I hit an enemy and they lite on fire or "burn" is that from me criting them with EK or is that just from increased burn chance?

Its one or the other. Usually, if it crits, there's a crit sounds and the screen shake slightly if you have that option enabled.

ok the crit makes not really an explosion sound but somewhat like a sound of breaking crates

I guess it could work but with all the passives required to get a decent crit chance (the base crit chance of EK is rather low at 5%), you'd sacrifice other important passives to get your base damage up. Also, ideally, you should get at least 1 or 2 support gems related to crit in an efficient crit build. But in my opinion, you don't have more than 1 available support gem for crit with this build considering that Cold to Fire, Faster Projectile and Fire Penetration are almost mandatory.

But most importantly, EK damage without crit is so high that the extra damage from crits wouldn't make much difference. Most of the time, it is gonna be be overkill. On the other hand, the extra risk related to Reflected damage will be considerable. So, personally, I don't think its a great idea to go crit with this build.
