[1.2.0] UPDATE CI Fire Trap/Fireball Searing Touch Shadow/Witch Build w/High Damage!

NEW 1.2 BUILD!

This now takes a bit of crit and drops some burn damage to get more burst which is great for parties.

Hello everyone,

This build is a build I have been playing off and on for about 6-8 months now. Generally I take long breaks but come back to this build as it is a really fun, high damage build. It has the ES to do high level maps with tons of damage. This build excels in Standard/Ambush and is not an invasion build. I did play this build up to the 80s on Hardcore, but again this will not survive invasion or the harder bosses in the new Beyond league.

This build revolves around Fire Trap, the +2 Fire Gems on the Searing Touch, the increased burning damage on the Searing Touch and the increased Fire/Crit/Spell nodes on the tree.

Please note that this build can be done by Witches and Shadows alike. There is no difference at endgame with regards to build for each class. The start is obviously different, but you take those starting nodes for each class later on regardless.

Without certain uniques listed below, this can become a twitchy build, which I personally like. You can use Chayula/Dream Fragments to reduce this as well as your damage and I would consider this/do this from time to time.

Playstyle:
Spoiler
The playstyle is actually pretty simple and that’s what I love.

You throw your first trap, cast flammability, trap, trap. This would be the starting rotation for a boss. Until higher maps this will likely kill the boss. After this point you will want to spam fireball and traps. You can use a summon skele totem if needed to be safe and I would recommend opening with it if you feel like it is needed (it will be needed at times).

For trash packs a fire trap should kill everything. Fireball is mostly reserved for bosses while firetrap is on cooldown.

Lightning warp is great to get around certain areas, I use this in almost every map. It is great to get up ledges or run away when surrounded.

Please note that your flasks are very important for this build, especially without some uniques. I run 2 quicksilvers and 3 granites. You should have atleast 1 for each of the following affixes: Remove frozen/chilled, removes bleeding, removes shock, quicksilver flask rolled with extra move speed. These are key for surviving.

Skill Gems:
Spoiler

Weapon

Fire Trap > Elemental Proliferation > Concentratd Effect > Chance to Ignite > Empower> Increased AOE
Chest:

Fireball > Faster Casting > Elemental Proliferation > Concentrated Effect > Increased Burning Damage/Chance to Ignite/Fire Penetration
Remember that Fireball is for single targets, which is why it is not linked with LMP/GMP.

Boots

Reduced Mana > Clarity > Discipline > Flammability/Elemental Weakness (for parties EW is better)

Gloves

Faster Casting > Reduced Duration > Lightning Warp
unlinked Enfeeble

Helm

Spell totem > Summon Skeletons > Faster Casting > Blind

Uniques
Spoiler

Uniques I use all the time:
Searing Touch

- This is for the obvious +2 to fire gems and the increased burning damage. This is probablty the best item for this build in this slot. A 5 link or 6 Link are obviously a big DPS Boost

Rainbow Strides

- I use the legacy version but the current version is still good. The mana is extremely helpful, especially on the legacy version as it can reduce the amount of mana nodes you will have to take. Further it has all res, decent ES and decent movespeed.

Uniques I use sometimes:
Sunblast Cloth Belt

- I use this at times other times I will use a rare belt. This all depends on the situation (whether I need to run Chayula or Dream Fragments). This unique is used for the great increased trap damage, reduced trap duration, traps exploding upon their timer going up, mana regen and the fire res. Obviously the first 3 reasons are the main reason to use this, but it is a good belt in general.
If you don't use this belt, get an ES belt or Strength belt and make sure it rolls ES with resistances as per usual.

Eye of Chayula

- This is an item that many say is mandatory. I do not feel it is mandatory but it is very nice to have. I do not run this most of the time, in fact I sold my current one. This is a very nice amulet because of the fact that you cannot be stunned while wearing it. This is hugely important in higher maps where damage is high. I say it is not optional because you can play without it on Standard if you play safely. On HC, this is a must. Using this item will probably mean you cannot use sunblast unless you have awesome gear. I DO RUN THIS ITEM NOW.

Dream Fragments

- This is a nice ring for the simple fact that you cannot be frozen. The max mana and mana regen is nice, but it is an added bonus for thre most part. This is extremely important for certain maps such as the city of sarn corrupted zone or maps with increased cold damage. I DO RUN THIS NOW. If you want to stay safe, run this and drop the sunblast.

Let me know what you guys think of the build. I will answer any questions you have. I really love this build, it is my go to build that I am pretty sure I will never stop playing. There may be breaks but it will always be there.

Fire Trap > Elemental Proliferation > Chance To Ignite > Increased Burning Damage > Multiple Traps > Fire Penetration

They are listed in order of importance. This is a pretty have DOT build. Multiple Traps is nice for trash but worse for bosses. I'd go with the first 4 listed.

I updated the best possible link choice for a 6 link! I noticed my damage went way up now that I got a hold of some of these gems. New video is in the video section and below this post.

Fire Trap > Elemental Proliferation > Concentratd Effect > Chance to Ignite > Increased AOE > Increased burning damage

New video showing the damage of my new 6link setup and a level 21 fire trap. She (Piety level 71 map boss) dies in 2 traps.

I answered some questions int he shadow version of this thread. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/848584/page/2

Since the builds use the same starting nodes for each class, it works well with both of them. I do like the Shadow start better.

Why EE on this build with no trap to make fire spike it? Also wont EE lower the Burn Dmg?
Hello!
I have a little question:
When I'm choosing my Searing Touch,
which roll is more important:
+spell Dmg
or
+fire Dmg

Thank you.
-I'm lvl 69 and really loving this buil ^^

Fire damage as it is applied not only to the initial damage but also to the burning damage. Spell damage doesn't get applied to burning damage (on the ground dot or ignition dot).
