[1.3.x] Dual Flame Totems: Solo, Self-Found, Beginner-friendly. AA+EB!
Hi,
I just wanted to say thanks for the build. It's pretty much just like your guide states. All self found gear for me except for the Three Dragons which I paid 10 chaos for. I'm sitting at 87 with 4700 hits, 75% resists and about 3400 tooltip dps. As your guide states, all maps are doable except for the no life regen. The 78 palace can also be a bit of a pain. I haven't tried the vaal boss yet as I still have not found a midnight stone. I'm also using a 6 linked Infernal Mantle and I ended up going with: Flame totem, 20% of added lightning, chaos, GMP, faster projectiles and faster casting I really wanted to fit in fire penetration but I could never get the mantle to go 2R, 2G, 2B. After putting about 500 chromatics into it; I just gave up. The totems still melt stuff super fast without it + I get the extra 10% shock chance from the quality lightning gem. Maps with fire resistance are not a problem. All in all, the build is great and I wanted to take the time to give your guide credit. Thanks for putting it up. Much appreciated. |

I'm at a bit of a loss right now. The rng hasn't been good to me this league and this is what I'm at
3.3k life 2,192.1 tooltip dps Maxed res Sadly I don't really have the time to dedicate to getting 20/20 without buying so I think this is about my limit for a league, still I haven;t had this much fun with a build since I discovered flicker strike back in 0.6.5 |

I wouldn't worry about the tooltip DPS. I just posted it for reference. You are also using fire penetration which I don't think shows up as an actual DPS number on the tooltip but it's doing its job.
I would definitely consider dropping Iron Will for Faster Projectiles. FP just allows your totems to kill shit from a further distance which in turn, is an indirectly good defensive boost for the totems (you kill them before they get to your totems). I could not go without it. You have conversion trap and the curse boots (extra curse) so that seems fine. You also went with a different CWDT setup (more offensive it seems but you have the extra shock chance). Maybe you could go back to the traditional immortal call, enduring cry, molten shell etc... setup. At level 1, it would proc all the time. The defensive CWDT setup has kept me alive on so many occasions. For more defense, I went with a CWDT, blind, firestorm setup. The blind lands often with firestorm and again, just allows the totems to stay up longer. Anyway, the biggest defense for the build for your guy is life. We are pretty soft and the totems are doing most of the work. Even though you can just keep putting up new totems, your guy has to be able to take a few hits here and there. This is just my opinion but with your gear, I'd do the following: - switch out the serpent wand for a spirit shield - spell damage and life - the hands - get something with life, resists and life regen on it - the belt - not sure what you gain from this - get a belt with life and resists and regen - both your rings and amulet have no + max life on them It looks like you've scarified life for cast speed. While cast speed is important, your totems with the double curse should be melting stuff anyway. You could probably add 1k life just from changing out some of this stuff. Try out FP instead of IW (if you have the materials to do it) and you should be set. Also if I had the dex for it and those boots; I'd play around with elemental weakness and projectile weakness. Hope this helps |

While I agree with all of those points, survivability isn't my issue I'm used to playing very very defensively . Getting res in my gloves won't help much as I'm already maxed without them. I'll try with projectile, as you can see it's lvling in my helm already. It's my understanding that we can use the tool tip dps to calculate as a simple TT dmg * 2 * 5 = max dps. I'd like to be able to do end game maps, like The Apex of Sacrifice. However with this build I jump in there and do little to no damage, things just kinda laugh at me. Dropping my gloves for less cast speed would gimp me. However, dropping iron for speed isssssss something I've been thinking about, but with the amount of str I have I gain sOOOOOOOO much damage.

Perhaps the best part about this build is that it is easy to modify your gear to an MF char as well. personally, the best weapon that you could use if you're not dual wanding (to increase defenses) is the Doryani's Catalyst. The elemental damage leech affects totems making them a hell of a lot tankier. currently using a Tabula Rasa since I can't seem to get a 6L which kinda sucks. nevertheless, i'm doing pretty ok and dominus farming is a breeze. my current gear is as follows:
The faster projectiles gem helps a lot in the dominus second phase encounter. positioned properly, you'll be hitting 2 portals while shotgunning dominus so the incoming adds are not an issue. basically, i drop the totems just before the animation ends, cast flammability then pop vaal haste then twiddle my thumbs until dominus nears death. that's when i pop my culling totem for moar phat lootz. currently have 3.2k life, 1.9k tooltip dps. my resists are lacking a bit but that's due to the gold ring. equipping solves that when i'm mapping and i still have 150iir/33iiq. my armor and evasion is almost nonexistent due to the use of the tabula and an offensive shield but since totem playstyle is defensive in nature, it's all about knowing where to position yourself after dropping your totems. i'm hoping to continue levelling my gems and if all goes well, i should be able to break 2.4k dps once i 20/20 my gems. Been going ok so far in the one month league with this build. I did this build before long time ago with mana, that was also ok. Not sure what I like better, think both is good.
This is my gear so far, not too bad. Thinking of maybe buying an infernal mantle, 5L hopefully, and add Faster Projs. Also have goldwyrm, goldrim, aurseize and perandus in the stash for future mf'ing. |
