[1.3] Sidra's Necromancing Ranger of Chaos (Poison Arrow) Videos/Atziri capable

@ Minions
Although Asidra answered my questions regarding Minions, i can't imagine that they are very helpful, especially in boss-fights. I watched the linked videos, but it seems to me, that the non-rare mobs dying too fast, so the zombies doing very little -- especially with that much cloud AoE, nobody can get out.

For boss-fights imo Vaal SS + Inc Duration + Minion Health + Blind is much more effective, than the Spell Totem setup.

Maybe i skip minions at all and go for a double curse setup, i don't know. Somehow, i have the feeling, minions are don't really needed.

Hey, would you be able to do this with a shadow? if so, i'd love to hear how to begin the tree that way. Can anyone help?
Shadow doesn't work that well, because his starting nodes are sub-optimal. You can try Scion or Witch instead.
In truth - my Zombies are a little less useful now that my DPS is so high. But that wasn't true for the majority of the time. It is so much easier gameplay to have your zombies run up meet the enemies and you drop a Poison Arrow in, then to constantly be retreating and leaving Poison Arrow behind you. And I still keep the mup while mapping to keep enemy attention off of me - and I move a little slower and use them more if the map has dangerous mods.

Trust me on this - I didn't actually start out using zombies. They were a solution to a problem, and then I was kicking myself for not having used them from the start of the game.

I just wanted to thank Asidra for this build - I've been using it, and whilst I'm still in the mid-levels in Cruel (41), it's been huge fun every since it "clicked" for me! One of my favourite builds so far in PoE.

I should note that initially I didn't quite "get" the build, because it's cleverer than I had thought, and hadn't taken Clarity, wasn't using a +1 bow gem weapon, and was pretty frustrated with the zombies, so was basically playing a normal Poison Arrow build with more survival-orientation than usual. I didn't understand why Asidra was suggesting certain choices, and skipping others I had regarded as "no brainers", and so was beginning to deviate from it.

But then in my late 20s a 4S (4L after one fuse!) Silverbranch dropped, and I got to the level where I could use my +1 Minions helm, and put in Minion Life, and realized what was going on, so went and got Clarity, used a few respec points to undo some of my "personalizations" of the build that weren't actually smart, and now I'm playing something amazing. Adding a Summon Skeletons Totem has made it even more amazing (definitely easier to handle than Desecrate and re-zombie-ing), and apparently I'm a huge noob because I'd never really noticed Vulnerability adds 33% to DoTs, so am using that properly too! Also Concentrated Effect going into the 4L put the build into real damage overdrive. It's pretty hilarious to wander around basically one-shotting things with a 5-14 damage bow.

I particularly like that the build is tough enough that it gives me time to think and manuever - the zombies still die a lot (though I have a couple of Flasks of Animation, which helps), but they tie up the mobs very effectively most of the time (sometimes even bosses).

i'm using these:

both drops, which is very lucky. animation flasks are fairly uncommonn as drops.

those flask keep me alive quite well. it's not important that the zombies live, but increasing their lifetime a little gives you a little more time to do whatever. and it's essentially "free". i don't actually think about healing them, i start taking damage and i just reflexively take a swig, and presto, zombies live a little longer.

btw, catalyzed + flask nodes = really fast recovery. it's pretty hard to die.

Glad you are liking the build. And kudos on animation flasks - I never even considered them.

Edit: I just need to kill Piety and Domius to finish a3 merc

The damage goes up when you start following the guide.

I use Concentrated Effect, and a Carcass Jack and quality on Poison arrow to make up and surpass the area to make up some of the lost area.

And what the hell is that bow...are you playing a physical build, or a Poison Arrow build? Because Poison Arrow builds use + levels in the bow. Bows with +2 to gem level are cheap as hell. And you could have been using a Silverbranch all this time for like 1c and doing more damage. Do you have an empower leveling in your off slot?

I made the guide to help - but it only works if you at least try and follow it. I understand certain things may be cost prohibitive - but other really aren't - they are just bad decisions.

But still ... Thanks for the reply. It is not that easy to start this, I still have to learn alot. I rarely get anything worth selling, so it is a bit hard to get stuff like the gems or gear. I am sorry for asking for some advice. I dont play often, because I dont hve that much time.

A guide is made to help new people, but if they dont understand stuff asking is the easiest way. I for example believed that the bows require lvl 64 (u wrote sth.about that in your guide, but i did not knew that izemlevel 64 is enough .... because with 60 I thought: "How shall I/ do you do this? I cant wear higher level gear ..."

I am sorry, but asking for advice is easier than trying to figure it our on my own, if I dont understans certain mechanics. I for example did not new that the real dps is in the blue text of the skill.

Also getting stuff like empower or carcass jack is not that easy for me. I dont have any exalted orbs at the moment.

Sorry for asking, but as a newbie it is the easiest way to understand :)

Just sth. to note here. I hope now, that this topic is finished now. Sorry again for asking.
Having fun with the build so far, lvl 51. Dmg is not too bad, I only have this:

Im a bit afraid tho that I will lack dps once at docks. I will soon craft a +2 bow gem bow, hopefully 5 stacks of alts will do it. I managed to get hold of an ilvl 71 5l bow quite cheap.

I am planning to go for Poison arrow + Conc.E.+ FasterP + SlowerP + Empower (When I will finally get that much currency to afford it .. ).

At this time I cannot afford neither an empower gem, a carcass jack nor a drillneck + 6l bow as it is my first character this league. And these are the items that seem to add up to HUGE amount of dps. Would this still leave me with some reasonable dps to get into 66 maps?

A decently rolled Carcass Jack could be anywhere from 12-25c (one guy sold it for 1c , since as he said , RF builds don't use it anymore it's worthless) , i got mine for 20 , so it's not that hard and i recommend getting it as soon as you can (after the bow).

Culling strike also adds enough damage to be helpful until you get your empower etc. and you probably have one in your stash already.

5 stacks of alts should do it. Remember to Aug any suffix only rolls. If it doesn't let me know, I'll help. Another nice thing is you can now benchcraft a resist on ^.

A 5L +2 Bow will be fine in docks and so to start mapping. You can probably even use Rarity as your 5th link to help with those Chaos recipes. As you progress further, I'd prioritize after that Carcass > Empower > Drillneck to save for. The AOE increase on Carcass helps more than the damage - and it's a perfect EV/ES base. Also remember that the Carcass doesn't need linked. Empower and Carcass Jack are reasonable later expenses with effort - the Drillneck on the other hand probably will require some drop luck.

Thanks for the tips ! I didn't know you could craft resist on bows, I will have to look that up. really noobie when it comes to 1.2 stuff.

Meanwhile crafted this, got it after 3 stacks of alts and a stack of chromatics:

Also praise RNGesus for getting sick of my whining, gemcutter box dropped the bass while xping on the ledge:

So I guess I'll start saving up on the carcass jack. Does this also mean I should look for EV/ES on all armor slots (if possible)?

Thanks very much for the help it is much appreciated.
