Minion skills + Spell Totem "less damage" interaction

Spell Totem states "Totem deals 50% less Damage". However, if the totem summons skeletons (or minions of any kind), technically the totem itself isn't dealing the damage. My question is - will the damage of the minions be reduced?

Yes, minions get all mods from linked supports on being summoned, so they will do 50% less damage.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

How certain are you? Because of how the wording in this game works (i.e. very precisely) I'm wondering if you've tested this or only assume it works that way, since minions aren't totems.

Its a known fact

e: its just how supports work. it says "less damage". Damage type is not specified so it affects any damage that supported skill does

That's how minions work, when minions get summoned they get all mods from your minion passives and all relevant support gems. If you used minion life, melee splash, culling strike and trap on a zombie gem and had 50% passive increased minion life and damage it will be spawned with following mods in addition to its usual stats:

60%% inc damage (from passives and culling)
80% inc life (from passives and minion life)
15% more damage (from trap gem)
16% less damage to main target, 50% less damage to secondary targets
attack deals splash damage to surrounding targets
hits have culling strike

I'm going to be re-wording this at some point so it's less confusing in the case of minions summoned by the totem.

You should be able to tell from the 50% less damage description on the minion skill when linked, but it seems that's not working either. hooray.

So to forward this topic to remote mines, do mine passives affect the casted minions? does the 10% elemental pierce bonus from the high explosive passive apply to a minion casted with a remote mine? thanks for answering!

No. Your minions aren't a trap, totem, or mine, even if created by one.

The Spell Totem penalty and the Trap/Remote Mine bonuses apply because those are the effects of supporting spells with those gems.

They probably are, their damage most likely gets 'trap', 'totem', and 'mine' tags, no way to test currently, but it's irrelevant anyway, the real problem is - passives that apply on you can't apply on your minions, no ifs or buts. If we had a shield that had a '% increased trap/totem/mine damage' and we used it with necro aegis, indirectly spawned minions would most likely get their damage boosted by it.

Edit: argh, I shouldn't reply to this stuff when I'm tired.

I don't know which tags are inherited, but your train of logic doesn't seem sound to my sleepy brain. Aren't you thinking about it the wrong way around?

Minions don't benefit from your passives and gear because it isn't tagged for minions, not because of some arbitrary rule just for minions.

Bah... this + distractions is making my head hurt. Maybe I'll look at the thread in the morning.
